Do Try This At Home: Guinness World Records 2019

October 28, 2018 By Lena 38 Comments

Ah, fall and winter. We’ve been expecting you.

While the two seasons may be the perfect time to huddle and hibernate, the demands for family-friendly entertainment are actually at an all-time high:

#1. Kids will spend almost all their free time indoors, and, unless you enjoy hearing “I’m bored” approximately every 20 minutes, the responsibility for keeping them busy and happy falls squarely on your shoulders.

#2. The holidays and sprinkling of PA days during the colder seasons create several opportunities for play dates, family get-togethers and reunions with extended family. More kids = more #1 noted above.

You know what? Bring it! I’ve found a way to take family fun to the next level with Guinness World Records 2019!
(Above: Reading about insects and arachnids, obviously.)

The NEW 2019 edition features over 200 pages of the world’s most entertaining, inspiring and officially amazing record breakers. Think competitive eaters (a favourite for my boys!), epic hoola-hoopers, record-breaking pets and much, much more!

This year, there are three sections certain to capture your kids’ attention and awe:

Making History with LEGO. Here, you’ll have everything you need to know about record-breaking builds via the medium of LEGO bricks. Check out how LEGO kits have challenged builders to reach new heights (and build times), or thumb through LEGO-fied representations of record-breaking structures in the real world.

Meet the Makers. The best behind-the-scenes you’ll ever read! Meet the Makers is an entire chapter devoted to the inventors, dreamers, crafters and creators who devote their lives to amazing record-breaking projects. Have you ever wondered what makes an inventor “tick?” How did they come up with their inspiration and vision for a Guinness World Records title attempt? How long does it take to create a rubber-band ball that weighs more than a hippo? Meet the Maker inside Guinness World Records 2019!

Do Try This At Home. It’s time to challenge yourself and your family this holiday season! Choose from one of five fun activities where you can attempt a Guinness World Records title using origami, balloon sculptures, ring pulls or rubber bands. The section is laid out with colourful photos and step-by-step instructions, plus guidelines to ensure your attempt can be successfully submitted for review.

Reid had been practicing the “Origami Cube” challenge for a week. To be completely transparent, I don’t think the current record holder has anything to fret over (LOL)… but it’s kept him focused and motivated to do his best!
This past weekend, big brother Ryder pulled out the ol’ stopwatch and said it was time for Reid to make a Guinness World Records title attempt. However, we couldn’t even get through the first 60 seconds because we kept doubling over laughing! While we may not have a new champion on our hands, we’ve definitely got this family bonding thing down pat.

Thank you, Guinness World Records 2019, for invigorating the upcoming season with unparalleled family fun!
Have you got what it takes to earn a unique Guinness World Records title? Don’t forget to share your creations with Guinness World Records on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #GWR2019.

And, be sure to get on your A-game this season with Guinness World Records 2019! It’s perfect for long weekends, family fun nights and of course, holiday gifting. Good luck!

This post is sponsored by Guinness World Records. The opinions on this blog, as always, are my own.

We love browsing Guinness World Record books but have never thought of breaking – or even come close to breaking – any records, so the addition of the Do Try This At Home is a great little challenge to get the kids motivated and thinking! Love it.

I was a teacher-librarian for a number of years. The guiness world record books were always a hit with the kids from about grade 3 up. I usually had to get multiple copies! So much fun, crazy, weird and interesting info in these books.
