Staying Off-Resort in Orlando? Stay Here.

March 24, 2013 By Lena

It’s safe to say that Orlando, Florida is my happy place… and the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort is as close as you can get to the Happiest Place on Earth… without staying at the Happiest Place on Earth. I’ll explain.

Located in beautiful Orlando – within the gates of Walt Disney World Resort – the Wyndham Grand Orlando is your gateway to Orlando’s legendary attractions, theme parks, entertainment and shopping. In fact, you can catch a complimentary shuttle to the Walt Disney World theme parks or explore Downtown Disney for incredible shopping, dining and live entertainment. And trust me, the enviable location is just one of the many reasons you should consider this resort for your next Orlando stay – with rooms starting at just $164.25 per night (“Stay 3 or More Nights” Promo) you won’t break the bank, either.

Accommodations

Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort offers 400 guest rooms and suites that overlook the property’s 10-acre lake and Walt Disney World parks. (In fact, we watched the fireworks from the comfort of our room each night at 9:00pm. Now that’s my idea of magical.) Each room is appointed with contemporary furniture; a 40-inch, flat-panel television; high-speed wired and wireless Internet access; black granite surfaces; and True Blue Spa and Bath & Body Works amenities.

While vacationing at the beginning of February, we enjoyed a spacious, family-friendly room with a separate alcove featuring bunk beds for the boys. Being *slightly* obsessive-compulsive about the cleanliness and presentation of the places I’ve stayed, I had high expectations of the Wyndham Grand Orlando – and I was not disappointed. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean and the furnishings were modern and maximized space. LOVE that the bunk beds for the boys had their own separate flat-panel TV; they fell asleep watching Disney cartoons while the husband and I mulled over our amazing day.

Services and Amenities

The hotel provides guests with the services and amenities that best fit their vacationing and business needs, including complimentary shuttle service to and from Walt Disney World attractions day and night; fully equipped fitness centre; 24-hour business centre; on-site gift shop; and a Kids Club with three activity centres providing daily entertainment and events for kids and teens. Guests can relax alongside the zero-entry, lagoon-style pool in private outdoor cabanas complete with chaise lounges, refrigerators, televisions and personal concierges. Guests at Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort also have access to a nearby 18-hole championship golf course designed by Rees Jones.

Concierge personnel went over and above to ensure our needs were met, and were incredibly friendly and hospitable. While we didn’t have a chance to take advantage of the Kids Club, we did steal colouring pages from them on a daily basis :) Once again, staff were a pleasure to interact with and made us feel right at home. Our only regret was that we didn’t have a chance to enjoy the pool; we visited during a cold snap and the weather was quite unforgiving. To add insult to injury, this was the view from our hotel room:

Blue Harmony Spa

The full-service Blue Harmony spa at Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort provides a variety of treatments in its indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, including massages, facials and manicures with signature products infused with filtered seawater for optimal results. Facilities include indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, a “Relaxation Lounge”, outdoor spa garden, outdoor hot tub, full-amenity locker rooms, men’s and women’s steam rooms with chromotherapy experience showers, and couple’s suite with side by side soak tubs. The spa is the perfect retreat for Mom after a day of theme-parking, or for younger couples visiting Walt Disney World, here you’ll find an oasis of calm and tranquility.

Architecture and Ambiance

The hotel is new – just over one year old. Hence, every nook and corner is in pristine condition, as expected from a freshly squeezed Wyndham property. However, the design and decor are a welcome surprise; rather than the expected varieties of furnishing and fixtures, each common room in the resort has been decorated to reflect unique tastes and styles. I was fortunate to have a private tour of the property, and as Katharine Anderson, Marketing Manager said: “You would never decorate your home with the same furniture in the family room and the living room – so why should the decor at a hotel be any different? At the Wyndham Grand Orlando, each common area has a distinct personality.”

I have wholeheartedly recommended the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort to friends and family visiting Orlando, Florida. In fact, we have friends staying at the property at this very moment! Waving hello! (From a much colder Toronto, ugh.) We can’t wait to return to the Sunshine State; while vacationing, the Wyndham Grand Orlando will be at the top of our list for places to stay.

Looks like a fabulous place to stay. I didn’t realize it was one of the hotels on Disney property. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn’t stay there – not when there are much cheaper options in Orlando (maybe not quite as nice – but still pretty decent).

    • Lena

      March 30, 2013 at 6:39 am

Well, it’s always a balance, isn’t it? Quality vs proximity vs amenities vs. budget. However, at just $164.25 per night, this resort is definitely one of the more value-priced options!

  26. Stephanie

    March 29, 2013 at 3:25 am

Did you make use of the complimentary shuttle service? How often does it run throughout the day? I’d love to hear more about your experience.

Also: Do the rooms come equipped with refrigerators and/or microwaves?

    • Lena

      March 30, 2013 at 6:46 am

We didn’t visit Disney when we vacationed in Orlando so didn’t have a chance to use the shuttle service. However, I have a friend who just returned from staying at the Grand Orlando so I’ll be sure to ask her all the details, and will come back to share with you!

Our room had a fridge, but no microwave.

  28. Janice

    April 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm

The resort rocked!! We had such a great time. Honestly, felt like a bit of the ritzier side of Las Vegas. The pools were so good for the little ones — they loved the Pirate pool and the lazy river. And it is so close to everything too. The hotel is beautiful, the service was excellent, and we couldn’t have been happier with our accomodations.

    • Lena

      April 2, 2013 at 2:14 pm

I’m so happy to hear that Janice!! Sounds like you had a magical vacation :)

  29. Janice

    April 2, 2013 at 2:02 pm

Oh — our room had a small fridge but no microwave, but you could totally buy fruit and milk and cheese and cold cuts and veggies and pack lunch. We weren’t that organized for that half of our trip, but I would do that next time around. As for the shuttle service — they have them for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom (the two parts of Disney we went to) but we drove, since hubby is all about being totally autonomous. But I would have taken the shuttle in a heartbeat!!! Lol.

    • Lena

      April 2, 2013 at 2:23 pm

You’re absolutely right, Janice – if I had to do it all over again, I’d pitstop at a Target or grocery store and stock up on a few sandwich fixin’s, because eating out for every meal can certainly add up (and you start to feel gross after a while).

Thanks for the info on the shuttle service! Can’t wait to hear all about your trip :)

It great to hear the staff were accommodating and pleasant. It looks like a place that would be awesome to vacation in. The rooms looks so comfortable and huge. A steam room with chromotherapy? Wow! I’ve heard about chromotherapy and thought about putting colored lights in some of my rooms, like the bathroom. It’s suppose to have a positive effect on your emotions and moods and that is got to be good. I would love to stay here. Thanks for the write up.
