It’ Snot Fun, Said the Sickie

January 11, 2012 By Lena

Mmmkay, you knew this one was coming…

Top 10 Reasons Why Taking Care of Sick Children – When You’re Sick Too – Sucks:

10. The phrase “Shut Up and Leave Me Alone” pops into your head every 12 seconds.
9. You’re so busy/tired/dejected you forget to eat. And then you heat up canned soup at 9:30pm.
8. Enduring hours of Treehouse TV – enough to make you nauseous even when you’re healthy.
7. Having snot run down your face while you’re busy wiping your kid’s.
6. Staying up all night with one sick child and all day with the other.
5. Hearing your husband say “Poor Baby” while he’s sipping his Venti Macchiato at work. #ihateyou
4. Doling out “Bless You”, “Don’t Wipe Your Nose on Your Sleeve” and “You Feel a Bit Warm”. Repeat.
3. The incredible urge to lock yourself in your room and assume the fetal position.
2. Hearing your husband say “So I’ll be home late today…”
1. Realizing that you’re the mom. Ain’t no one bailing you out of this one.

We just went through this in our house – each kid picked up something different and I ended up with both things! After the kids recovered my parents kept them for 2 sleepovers – such a blessing as I could get uninterrupted sleep and recuperate.

Here’s hoping our families are all healthy and everyone gets better soon!

IT’S THE WORST! We put our kids to bed at 7 p.m. on Christmas Day b.c we had strept throat. I just wanted everything to GO AWAY. Mostly I wanted my Mommy!

Ha! Isn’t it crazy how much we yearn to be taken care of? Especially by mommy!

I can relate to this. We have been so sick, but of course husband still gets to escape to work. On days when i can’t send miserable little sick one to school and i am ill too I would like to holler Shut Up. Stop sneezing on me. Any wonder we get sick? Mostly i keep that in my head, mostly.

“Mostly” is the operative word, right? I think my toddler heard a few “shut ups!” from me over the last two days :(

Sending healthy vibes (and patience!) your way!

We went through that right at Christmastime. You forgot to add “Cry in the bathroom while you’re trying to pee…IF no one is watching you or sitting on your lap.”

Oh indeed! That one is definitely up there! Hope everyone is better now :)

The best is when after being sick for 5 days with the kids being sick..Being up countless times all night with the kids..being so exhausted hoping that you might get a little break when DH comes home and then DH says “I’m soo sick you have no idea how I feel” Ummmm…Yeah!! Pretty Sure I do! I just had the same cold.” “No way you did. Mine is way worse!” GRRR!!!! Man Colds are almost worse than kids being sick..watching DH sleep off his cold and feeling so much better after a few days…not fun!!!!

I COMPLETELY feel for you! My husband is now sick, and you’d think the world has come to and end. The kiddos and I are just starting to feel better, and now I’ve got another patient to look after. Sending healthy vibes your way for 2012!

Funny but not funny! I confess that I smiled when reading but when it’s the reality … is less funny. My two boys have been sick last week, me too! It was similar as you described.

Oh goody, someone who can commiserate! Hope you and your boys are feeling much better this week :)
