My Reno-cation wrap up continues!
On to one of my favourite rooms – our master bedroom. My husband had just one teeny request: make it resemble a guest suite in Chicago’s W Hotel, where we had stayed during our engagement. Easy peasy, right? Ha!
Well, thankfully I had a few things going for me –
a) A spacious master bedroom
b) A cream couch without a home since we merged our living and dining rooms
c) The desire to add a touch of modern elegance to an otherwise boring bedroom
(Unfortunately, no mini bar.)
Aside from my beloved Urban Barn “Yoshi” bedroom set, my “before” look was sadly lacking inspiration.
Choosing a paint colour for the room was simple – I had my heart set on a smoky purple. It had to have just enough lavender to be pretty, but with a healthy dose of grey for an edginess that hints at contemporary styling. In other words, very W Hotel.
It took literally seconds for me to settle on Big Shot, #P5195-44. I’ve attached the paint chip here because I only had a chance to take pictures at night – and my camera’s flash pulled out too much gray from the walls, making it very hard to decipher the true colour. Now isn’t that the perfect smoky purple? It’s like PARA created it just for me!
And…ta da! (You may click photos to enlarge)
After Ryder had his little tumble off our bed, I decided to relocate the night tables for the time being – and was pleasantly surprised to see how well they work as side tables. The location of the sofa is perfect for lounging with a good book (and late morning sun), and is also practical for watching the tube (though we definitely prefer reclining on the bed to catch our favourite TV shows).
All in all, we’re pretty much in love with our new bedroom. Although it may look a tad cool and impersonal, did I mention that we have the cuddliest duvet in the entire world? Lots of snuggle time!
Just a few more rooms to go! Next up on my Reno-cation wrap up… it’s Reid’s room!

The sofa in the bedroom makes it very hotel-like – good choice – and great idea to move the side tables for now. The room looks very sophisticated – the paint colour makes SUCH a difference! We actually don't own any bed side tables yet (because when we bought the master bed, we were using bedside cribs for the twins)…now that they sleep away from us, we'll be getting sidetables – but I'll make sure to get a kid-friendly one – the kiddies still run into bed sometimes and I wouldn't want them to get hurt. Hope Ryder's ear is doing better!By the way – I love hotel inspiration for decoration – they just make the rooms look so right!
very well done! definately has that upscale hotel room feel!
looks amazing! you should come over here when you are done with your house. :)

Wow, Lena! Your bedroom looks fabulous! My bedroom so needs remodeling….I'm really going to have to push for a reno :O)
Love it! I love the W Hotels and I think you've nailed it.Will you be taking reservations? ;)
Love it! I just wish my bedroom was that CLEAN! I have way too much junk and not enough place for it!
Bee-u-tiful. That must put you in a NY state of mind.
Loves it :) Nice taste!
Gorgeous choice of colours! Both feminine and masculine, a great balance! Love the couch too. I wouldn't want to leave that room ;)
I love it!! I also REALLY like the chair! You did a great job:))xxamelia
@Ella – Ryder is fine now, thanks so much for asking! But yeah, it's kind of put me off night tables for the time being. It's such a bonus that the Yoshi line has clean lines, so they can pass for side tables.@Jennifer – thanks darling!@pmills – ha, I'd love to! But, I'm still very much a novice ;)@Elaine – my father in law is a professional painter and he did all the painting!@Make-Up Junkie – I'm now a huge fan of couches in bedrooms ;)@Nugglemama & christigpa – thanks dolls!@Tracy – I recommend! xo@Rachel – ha! No reservations… exception perhaps for George Clooney.@~she~ – um, there's a reason why the closet door is firmly closed. Just remember this is a STAGED photo!@MAG QUEEN & Kailin – thank you! xo@Shauna – That's exactly why I chose it; I figured hubby wouldn't want to be in a girly room. But my bathroom is pink!
@inthepinkofthings – thank you! That couch saw absolutely no action for 4 years set aside in our living room – hopefully its more loved now!
I'm thinkin with these shaggin changes you might have a 3rd on the way! HA
WOW! I love this! Love the clean lines and wow..just wow!How relaxing that room must be! :D
Mom vs. the boys
the couch totally gives off a sleek hotel room vibe, love it! Adore the bedding and the wall colour and although I understant why you moved the nightstands I think I would really miss having one near my bed, the blogger in me is always looking for a pen and paper!
@the brother – um, HELL TO THA NO. :)@Mippy – I'm a huge fan of clean lines too. Think I was an architect in a former life! Thanks for the kudos!@MVTB – Oh, the missing night tables is currently the bane of my existence – I was drinking a glass of water while watching TV the other night and went to place it on my night table – only I dropped it because there was no table to be found! Thank goodness it was water and not coffee!
teehee…Lena i have some pics i gotta share with you on FB re: the W hotel. =)
