How To Spring? We’ll Show You!

April 10, 2015 By Lena

After a long – okay, extra long – cold, unforgiving winter, there are some things that *must* be done:

1) Ladies, whip out your razor. You know what to do with it.
2) Is it safe to take the winter tires off? Somehow, I am not confident we’re in the clear just yet.
3) The patio set and barbecue. Locate them, and keep them on standby.
4) Grab your favourite cleaning solutions and supplies. It’s time for a good spring cleaning!

Will you be partaking in a little scrub-and-shine fest this season? I’m pleased to report that my spring cleaning is underway, and this year, I can find everything I need to sponge, swab and scour from Walmart Canada. Like the Scrubbing Bubbles Mega Shower Foamer Trigger, which makes cleaning simpler, faster and easier. Or the super-versatile Vileda Easy Wring Spin Mop and Bucket; whether you need to wash wood, ceramic or vinyl floors, the Easy Wring System makes it a breeze.  As always, Walmart is your one stop shop for all your spring cleaning needs and household essentials.

Do you have spring cleaning tips or techniques you simply can’t keep to yourself? Join us at the @WalmartCanada #HowToSpring Twitter Party on Tuesday, April 14th at 8:00pm EDT!
HowtoSpring GraphicWe’ll share our best tips, tools and techniques for making your home summer-ready, and showcase the products to get you there. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Walmart Canada Twitter Party unless we had amazing prizes up for grabs – over $1000 in prizes! We’re giving away their most sought-after cleaning products and store gift cards – don’t miss it!

RSVP below for a chance to win, and we’ll see you on Tuesday night. See official rules here. …

You’ll FLIPP for the Savings!

March 16, 2015 By Lena

A few months ago, I shared with y’all a shopping theory I’ve been developing for years.

When shopping, all things the same, 9 out of 10 times, Walmart Canada will have the lowest price.

Simply put, that means you can’t lose shopping at Walmart – on staples goods, brand names, groceries and gear, you can shop in confidence knowing that the prices are not only competitive, but in some cases, a downright steal.

Think I don’t practice what I preach? Here’s a picture of my shopping cart – only halfway through a weekly grocery run. That cart was eventually overflowing with fresh meat and produce. Because, Quality + Great Prices makes this mom happy.
IMG_2343However, if I thought I was a stealth shopper before, the new FLIPP 2.0 app has taken my shopping savvy to new heights. Now pay attention, because I’m about to save you money. TONS of money.

Hands up if you create a shopping list? Sure! Most of us do. Sometimes, it’s the only way to remember a bunch of green onions or a package of Chinese broccoli (which you can find at Walmart, by the way). And, having a family with young children, I’ve got enough on my mind without worrying about a cart full of sundry and packaged items that are par for the course. So, I’ve been writing grocery lists for years.

Now, I create them in FLIPP 2.0.

Let me show you why it’s so, so much easier – and so much more economical – to use the app for your weekly grocery runs. …

The #cleanwater Twitter Chat

February 19, 2015 By Lena

FACT: 80% of Canadians take clean drinking water for granted… while one billion go without.

It can be said that nearly all Canadians enjoy an unlimited supply of clean water, so it’s no surprise that a survey by P&G and Walmart Canada found that the majority of us take safe drinking water for granted. And, many of us may be shocked to learn that one billion people in the developing world do not have the same luxury.

FACT: Diseases from contaminated water kill more children than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined.

To help combat this global issue, last year P&G and Walmart Canada teamed up to donate one day of clean drinking water for every P&G household product purchased at Walmart or Walmart.ca. The Canadian initiative supported the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) that aims to save one life every hour by 2020 through the provision of two billion litres of clean water each year.

FACT: Canadian actor and #cleanwater activist, Jason Priestley, supports the initiative.

“More than 1,600 children die every single day from water-borne illnesses,” says Jason Priestley, who recently visited rural batey communities in the Dominican Republic where he was able witness the impact of the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program first-hand. “I believe that everyone should have clean water. As a dad, the thought of children dying every day from preventable diseases caused by lack of clean water is an unfathomable tragedy.”

Join us on Wednesday, February 25th at 8pm EST for the #cleanwater Twitter Chat.
clean water graphicWe’ll share a wealth of information about this incredibly important initiative, chat about the program’s accomplishments and goals, and have amazing P&G prize packs on hand to reward our chat attendees. Our GRAND PRIZE is valued at over $250, which includes a $200 Walmart Gift Card.

(Plus, please welcome @Jason_Priestley – he will be our special co-host, tweeting LIVE on the chat!) …

January 11, 2015 By Lena

It’s official: I want a registry re-do.

I mean, of course I want to do it all over again, because if I could register for my baby-to-be now, I’d be registering at Walmart Canada!

Did I mention that you can do it all from the comfort of your home?

But would you like to know my major reason for wanting a registry re-do with Walmart Canada? Hmmm…. you’ll just have to join the #WalmartBaby Twitter Party to find out!
WalmartBaby Graphic v3Join us as we chat about must-have registry items, reminisce over our own pre-baby days and share the latest news from Walmart Canada. This Holiday Season, Send Your #WellWishes

December 16, 2014 By Lena

We do Christmas a little differently around here.

You see, for years, my boys have been spoiled – the fringe benefits of having a mom who works in social media. Toys, games – even trips to exotic locations – they show up on the doorstep, and in my inbox, with regularity. And while I won’t apologize for working hard to earn these opportunities, I am sensitive about how they impact my boys’ egos, lifestyle perceptions, and sense of entitlement.

So, during the holidays, I impress on them that it’s a chance to give back for all the wonderful products and experiences they’ve received throughout the year. And they rise to the occasion – they select items to gift and donate, have a generous heart and are happy to spread the joy of the season. I truly could not be more proud.

But what makes our Christmas different? Santa actually bypasses our chimney so he’s able to gift the toys to other boys and girls who are in need. Ryder and Reid understand this, and as such, expect only simple presents from immediately family – pajamas, socks and *maybe* a small LEGO set. I love that they don’t anticipate a mountain of toys; instead, they look for ways they can give back.

This year, I’ve found the perfect way to celebrate the season – we’re sending #WellWishes to children in hospitals, in support of Children’s Miracle Network.
Logo (2)Here’s how you can participate:

1) Kraft Canada will donate $1.00 (up to a maximum of $50,000) to Children’s Miracle Network with your purchase of any Kraft product from Walmart Canada. Or,

2) Send your #WellWishes to children in hospitals on Facebook, Twitter or Google+, remembering to use the hashtag. For every social mention, Kraft Canada will also donate $1.00. …

Flipp for the Holidays!

December 14, 2014 By Lena

I have a theory. It hasn’t been verified or anything like that, so please don’t hold me to it. However, after years of testing it out for myself, I’m a firm believer. So here it is –

And who doesn’t love a steal?

I must admit; I’d been so spoiled by Walmart’s fabulous prices, I stopped looking at flyers. And for a smart and savvy shopaholic. that was no bueno. But the hassle! The frustration of sorting through mounds of paper (often damp from being left on my doorstep), and the endless coupon clipping… list making… price checking.

Then, I was introduced to Flipp. Flipp is the easiest way to browse flyers and save money. Quickly browse the brands you love, clip items straight to your shopping list, and highlight top deals across flyers. It really is that simple! And, it allows me to organize my shopping lists, so I stay within budget, and don’t overspend.

On average, flyer readers save 40% more on their weekly shopping.

So here’s the deal – the amazing everyday prices at Walmart allowed me to go easy on my flyer reading. But why not save MORE money? Why not be aware of fabulous savings, limited time offers and exciting promotions?

This weekend, I had one major shopping goal: purchase a few toys for the children at a battered women’s shelter that I donate to every Christmas. Normally, I’d just swing by Walmart and pick up a few items, but this time, I decided to read the flyer via the Flipp app.
Flipp 1I am so glad I did! Instantly, I found amazing savings on some of the hottest toys of the season – plus great deals on a few stocking stuffers that I wanted to include. …

Walmart Canada #MomoftheYear Twitter Party

October 29, 2014 By Lena

It’s no secret: Mom has the most important role on the planet.

Shaping, molding and nurturing one of our most important resources – our children – is no small feat, and is one that requires patience, perseverance and passion. Through countless hours, Canadian mothers play many different roles, and display courage and self-sacrifice that deem them real life heroes to their families and the communities in which they serve.

In honour of all that moms do and the impact they have on those around them, @WalmartCanada is pleased to host the #MomoftheYear Twitter Party, celebrating all Canadian moms, including the six 2014 Mom of the Year recipients. Join us on Tuesday, November 4th at 8:00pm EST for a chat dedicated to that special lady – our chief scheduler, organizer, driver, coach, nutritionist, caregiver, best friend… and more.

Walmart Celebrates its Newest Arrival… Aww.

October 10, 2014 By Lena

There are very few times I wish I could rewind the clock and be a new mom again. Truth is, I’m quite happy to be the mother of school aged children, thank you very much! Main reason? The fact that they go away for seven hours each weekday, duh.

However, this is one of those times that I really wish I could experience it all over again – and of course you know it has something to do with shopping!

Walmart Canada, Canada’s number one retail banner for infant care, announced on Thursday the official launch of its new baby registry on walmart.ca to help Canadians get ready for a new baby on the way. The registry features a broad assortment of baby products from diapers and bottles to cribs and strollers as well as more than 1,500 online exclusives at Walmart’s everyday low prices.
Walmart Baby RegistryYE GODS! *Why* was this not around when I had my two little guys? As you all know (or should know)… I practically live at Walmart. No joke, some of the cute stock boys know me when they see me. And thinking back to my boys’ infant years, I was constantly buying products from Walmart’s baby department, whether it be diapers or formula, play yards or toys. …

Walmart Canada: Your One-Stop Party Shop

June 2, 2014 By Lena

Last weekend was one for the books. It marked the last time I held a combined birthday party for the boys, and the first time I’ve spent less than $50 on birthday party decorations.

SAY WHAT?? It’s true! Thanks to Walmart Canada, I found everything I needed in one place, at fabulous prices. In fact, I *may* have thrown my own little party in Aisle 3 as I filled my cart with party favours and decorations in our theme du jour, Disney Pixar Cars. Ka-Chow!

WalmartFrom party hats to paper plates, temporary tattoos to cake candles, there is absolutely everything you’ll need to put on the perfect themed party. In addition to the goodies shown on the right, I scooped up:

– Door posters for my backyard sliding doors
– A balloon pump for the balloons
– Streamers and a “Happy Birthday” banner
– A Lightning McQueen pinata
– Cars-themed loot bags

I also purchased additional yellow balloons to strew throughout my main floor, leading up to the backyard where the party was set to take place. We were blessed with beautiful weather, surrounded by friends and family, and thanks to our resident grill master (my husband), were treated to delicious party food.

(Side note: I’ve decided that every party should include hamburgers and barbecued chicken. There’s just something so darn soul-satisfying about noshing on BBQ on a summery night in May.)

The boys’ party included a mix of parents and kiddos, so we had the best of both worlds – adult conversation (and beer) peppered with squeals of delight, my gorgeous niece and my girlfriend’s sweet lil’ shih poo.

Respecting the privacy of our guests, here are the two birthday boys, just after the party began.

Yes, There IS an Award for Mom of the Year

May 6, 2014 By Lena

If you’re a mom, chances are you’ve joked about becoming Mom of the Year during an utter, complete and total fail.

“Mom of the Year award goes to me – I forgot to pick up Ryder from soccer practice.”
“Oops! Threw out Reid’s favourite pajama pants – yes, the tattered ones – guess I’m Mom of the Year.”
“Just call me Mom of the Year: I gave the boys candy to stop their tantrums.”

(Of course the above examples are just fictional! I simply needed a few theoretical situations. Ri-ight.)

The point is, we often associate “Mom of the Year” with unattainable perfection. And moms will never be perfect, and that’s absolutely okay. So rather than use the phrase in a disparaging way to offset our feelings of inadequacy, let’s celebrate our accomplishments, our victories and most importantly, our privilege of having the most vital role on earth! Yes, friends, I AM Mom of the Year because I give my best every day – and that’s enough!

Picture12

In honour of all that moms do and the impact they have on those around them, Walmart Canada is launching its third annual Mom of the Year Award, giving people across the country the opportunity to recognize the enormous contribution mothers make to their families and to their communities. (See? Contributions, people, not perfection.)

*New in 2014* – Walmart will honour six (6) Mom of the Year recipients. One mom will be selected by a Committee for each of the following five categories: Environmental Superstar, Community Champion, Smart Saver, Loving Caregiver and Everyday Hero. The sixth mom will be the My Finalist recipient, selected by public vote from 20 candidates.

Canadians will have the chance to review the top 20 candidates and vote for one mom they want to see become one of the six finalists through My Finalist public voting. Each finalist will receive $10,000 to spend on themselves and $10,000 for the charity or cause of their choice.

I encourage you to nominate the important moms in your life at www.walmart.ca/mom by describing the qualities that make them special and by sharing why they deserve to be recognized. Remember, the Mom of the Year will not be a perfect mom; she’ll be someone who faces challenges head on, learns from her mistakes, gives freely of her time and talent, and when called upon, rises to the occasion. Sounds like someone you know? Nominate away!

Nominations for the Walmart Canada Mom of the Year Award close on May 23, 2014. My Finalist public voting will take place from June 11 through to July 4, 2014 and the My Finalist recipient will be announced on July 5, 2014. The five category recipients will be announced from August 4 through to September 1, 2014.

To participate in the program and support Canadian moms, please visit www.walmart.ca/mom.
