Ladies, it’s sweater weather. Could there be a more iconic season than fall? Colourful leaves, PSLs and warm apple pie… these are a few of my favourite (fall) things!
Of course, the fall season is also a test-run when it comes to cooler temps, and just ahead of the cold winter weather, I think it’s the perfect time to re-evaluate our skin care regimens to make sure they’re working for us. Today, I’m busting myths about skin care and re-introducing you to a product that I’ve been using religiously for the last three years with fabulous results. Spoiler alert, it’s AVEENO® ABSOLUTELY AGELESS™ Restorative Night Cream!
Myth #1: Quality skin care costs a lot of money.
Of course, this is false! It’s all about finding the right formula for your skin, and sometimes, even the most exotic ingredients simply aren’t compatible with your skin type (or fail to deliver the results you’re hoping for). The trick is to get back to basics: what is your skin type, and how do you want your skin to look feel? If a product can address these needs in an effective way, forget about the price tag and concentrate on the results.
(Between you and me, if the choice is between a nouveau, trendy department store brand or a product that has been on the drugstore shelf for years – and continues to be stocked season after season – I’m more likely to stick with the tried and true fave.)
Myth #2: It takes a long time to see results.
False! With many of today’s advanced formulas, skin care products contain ingredients that are targeted to your skin woes. In most instances, you should see a positive effect in as little as 1-2 weeks, with the full effect in a month or two.
More timely results can give you the confidence to try new products to find the right ones for you. And, if you’re purchasing from a mass retailer or drugstore, it won’t break the bank to try a few different formulas until you settle on one you love.
Tip: If you’re considering an elite brand, don’t feel bad to ask for a sample!
Myth #3: You can use the same cream day and night.
False! First and foremost, your daily moisturizer should include SPF protection of at least 15, and preferably SPF 30. Your day cream can also be lighter, so you don’t have to battle shine or migrating makeup.
A rich, restorative night cream is key for ensuring your skin looks and feels its best. I have a favourite, and it’s AVEENO® ABSOLUTELY AGELESS™ Restorative Night Cream.
We know that the AVEENO® Brand is known for harnessing the power of nature in their ingredients, and the ABSOLUTELY AGELESS™ Restorative Night Cream combines blackberry complex and dill extract to help improve the appearance of lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging. At the same time, this breakthrough moisturizer helps nourish skin with nutrients to help keep it looking and feeling healthy over time. Skin treated with products containing blackberry complex and dill extracts has seen improved elasticity.
Listen, friends, I’m 42 years old and can attest to the noticeable results of younger, healthier-looking skin in just one week! ABSOLUTELY AGELESS™ Restorative Night Cream has been my go-to night cream for over three years, and it will continue to be my not-so-secret weapon for absolutely ageless skin. The dermatologist-tested and hypoallergenic formula is gentle enough for everyday use, and it’s available nationwide at food, drug and mass merchandisers. Visit www.aveeno.ca for more details.

there is a myth I want to add which is about steam from hot water opens up your pores. I think the idea that your pores open and close based on water temperature is a common, age-old myth, but it’s just not right in reality. It is because your pores are technically always open! And while there are plenty of other things that make steam beneficial to your skin, such as increased moisture levels in the air to help prevent dry, cracked lips, the so-called opening up of your pores is not one of them.
