Mega Construx: Build Beyond

May 6, 2017 By Lena

A brick isn’t just a brick…it’s a gateway beyond. I’ve seen this. I’ve lived this. And I believe with all my heart, creativity inspires creation.
IMG_0087I love watching my boys play with Mega Construx building sets. For me, the satisfaction is two-fold. First, it’s gratifying to see them quietly following instructions and work towards assembling a complete toy. They are improving their concentration, comprehension, and most of all, honing their ability to see a task through to completion. These are skills that are necessary for all school-aged children, and if they can fine tune them while having fun, I’m all for it.

However, it’s after they’ve completely assembled a toy and broken it apart that the magic begins. It’s when their imagination takes over and allows them to think outside the instructions – it allows them to Build Beyond.

Each brick represents an opportunity to not only build a new toy – it’s a chance to build a better community. Because it is through play that we seek to inspire children to build a better world; in the right hands, these bricks show us what’s possible when we all fit together.
IMG_0089Is your child a “Beyonder?” Beyonders are children who have big imaginations that help us see beyond our differences. They challenge the norm, invent the unexpected and ultimately build a better world. I’d like to think both my boys are Beyonders; their relentless pursuit for information opens their minds to infinite possibilities. They’re learning that if they can dream it, they can do it.

Earlier this year, Mega Construx challenged children from across Canada to be a Beyonder. Among the submissions, they selected 10 winners to help them construct a giant monument that celebrates diversity, unity and acceptance. The large-scale monument, constructed out of over a million of Mega Construx bricks, will be revealed next Wednesday, May 10th at the Ottawa Children’s Festival. Working with a local Canadian architect, Jean Beaudoin, and Mega Construx Master Builders, the winning team of children will showcase their skills and creative thinking prowess.

Do your children stick to the instructions or use the bricks as a way to build a better future? Mega Construx bricks are compatible with other toy bricks, making it easy to discover new possibilities. They fit – just like we all fit – together.

Sometimes, my boys like to follow the booklet. It’s a great feeling, knowing they can stick to a task, and enjoy the rewards after putting in the effort.

Looks like they have some fun kits. I know with my nieces/nephews they usually build the kit once and then after that they let their imagination take over.

Well written post Lena! I totally agree with you that creativity inspires creation. Megaconstrux building sets challenges young kids to use their own imagination and be proud of their little creation whatever that may be. My little grandson’s 7th birthday is coming up soon and I think this will make a great birthday gift.

I agree! It’s amusing to watch kids build things out of their imagination. The creativity they have is something else. My daughter isn’t there yet but when she is, you bet I’ll have some of these building blocks to let her express her little mind, and become a Beyonder.
