Hooray for summer! Endless days, warm and dreamy nights, and a chance to watch the year’s BIGGEST blockbuster movies! Tell me, what was the last film you enjoyed on the big screen? We LOVED Inside Out and Minions, both incredible family movies that had us in stitches (and at times, a little teary-eyed! Shh… don’t tell my kids).
And since my husband and I are movie buffs, of course we love movie trivia, tidbits and other fun facts. Feeling nostalgic, Cineplex Entertainment recently polled Canadians about all things summer camp flick related. See if you agree with the results!
What Canadian movie-star would make the best camp counsellor?
• Mike Meyers (35 per cent)
• Ryan Reynolds (23 per cent)
• Martin Short (21 per cent)
Now what would YOU do if your son or daughter spent the summer with Mike Myers? I think they’d be quite the comedian by the end of camp! However, Ryan Reynolds? I know he’s a funny guy, but he’s also… um…. HOT. I currently drop off my kids to day camp wearing sweats and a baseball cap. Not sure how I’d feel if Ryan greeted me at the door… *powders nose and sucks in tummy*.
Canada’s favourite classic movie about summer camp:
1. The Parent Trap (43 per cent)
2. Meatballs (20 per cent)
3. Friday the 13th (19 per cent)
Okay, you can totally start ribbing me, because I haven’t seen any of these movies! And I feel like I totally should have seen Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap before she became Lindsay Lohan Half-Dressed and High in LA. Shudder.
Also, here’s another little tidbit about Meatballs – it was filmed in Haliburton, Ontario at Camp White Pine, whose alumni includes author Margaret Atwood. Très cool, eh?
The fictional movie summer camp we wish we could attend:
1. Kellermans’s resort from Dirty Dancing (52 per cent)
2. Camp NorthStar from Meatballs (17 per cent)
3. Camp Kikakee from Earnest goes to Camp and Camp Nowhere from Camp Nowhere (16 per cent)
NO surprise here! Who wouldn’t want to spend a summer learning how to do the Fox Trot and paint pottery? And oh, if there just happened to be a studly dance instructor named Johnny Castle (played by the late Patrick Swayze), that would just be the icing on the cake.
So, what are some of your favourite summertime flicks? Or, which movie(s) are you looking forward to seeing this summer? Leave a comment below for a chance to win a family pack (4 admissions) to Cineplex! Good luck all, and enjoy the show!
