Can You Fake a Good Night’s Sleep?

February 17, 2015 By Lena

As a mom of two young boys, I have only one answer… I WISH!

While sleep is a necessity, a good night’s sleep is a luxury ’round here. I mean really, does any mom actually sleep well? I’d like to meet her and shake her hand! (And, maybe, swap families with her.) Hence, when I was invited by the good folks at Garnier to indulge in a good night’s sleep at the Garnier Miracle Hotel, I was immeasurably excited.

Until I realized that I’d be in Orlando, juggling work, family and roller coasters – ergo, likely not getting any sleep at all.

So I did the next best thing – I bestowed the gift of a good night’s sleep to Elaine Atkins of Toronto Beauty Reviews, and asked her to report back on her experience at this exclusive, widely coveted event. Take it away Elaine!
B9r7RRgCEAIj9xpAre you always chasing a good night’s sleep? As we age and lead busier and busier lives (think work, social obligations, kids, and even household chores) we lose a little bit of quality sleep with each new task we take on.

I was invited to check into the Garnier Miracle Hotel to help me get that rest that I so desperately needed. So, where is this mysterious Garnier Miracle Hotel, you ask? It’s none other than the Trump International Hotel in Toronto, decked out by the Garnier Canada team.

When we can’t actually GET a good night’s rest, the next best thing is at least LOOK like you did, right? First, it’s important to know that during the day, our skin is busy defending itself against many different stresses. Then, at night, our natural repair mechanisms kick in so skin is at its most regenerative function. Studies have shown that fatigue causes a phenomenon known as “cellular oxidation” which reduces our skin’s natural capacity for regeneration. Therefore, our skin is weaker when we are tired and can’t recover properly. Over time this is bad news for us… skin will age more quickly and it takes much longer for it to recover overnight.

To help combat signs of fatigue, Garnier has introduced Ultra-Lift Miracle Sleep Cream – the first sleeping creams for the face and eyes. Inspired by “sleeping packs” (a huge trend in Asia!), Garnier has developed a product with a unique lightweight texture which helps the active ingredients penetrate into the skin all throughout the night. Unlike traditional night creams which are normally very rich, heavy and designed to simply hydrate and nourish, the face and eye sleeping creams help to speed up skin’s cellular renewal. The result? Improved skin quality, better tone, smoother texture, and the best part – the ability to trick everyone into thinking you’ve had 8 hours of quality sleep!
garnier-miracle-event-collage-night (2)Of course, ACTUALLY getting a better night’s rest along with using the sleeping creams is the winning combination. My experience at the Garnier Miracle Hotel definitely promoted relaxation and a good night’s sleep! My night started out with soaking in a warm bath, putting on a pair of really comfy pajamas, sipping on some decaf vanilla lavender tea, and then jumping into the luxurious and cozy king sized bed. I’m making a note to myself to pick up better quality bed linens – they make a world of difference!

The next morning a leisurely breakfast kicked off the day, and what better way to get the weekend started than with a yoga class? Engaging in exercise and light activities during the day will also help gear your body up for quality sleep. My time at the Garnier Miracle Hotel ended with a blow out at the spa (using amazing-smelling Garnier Fructis hair products!) and receiving a manicure with Essie. And let me assure you, after just one night of removing myself from all the stresses of everyday life, I had one of the best sleeps I’ve experienced in a long time. Bliss!
garnier-miracle-event-collage-morning (2)As for the Garnier Ultra-Lift Miracle Sleeping Creams – they are now part of my nightly routine. When I wake, my skin is soft and hydrated, and it just looks brighter and more awake! Although getting a great night’s sleep everyday might take a while to achieve, I can at least have confidence that my skin is repairing itself at night and getting the care it needs.

Do you often have a good night’s sleep? Or could you use Garnier Ultra-Lift Miracle Sleeping Creams and a night at the Garnier Miracle Hotel?

It is such a good feeling to wake up in the morning and feeling well rested and moisturized. Doesn’t happen very often for me though. I really like this post because you explained in detail what happens to our skin at night and how we should take advantage of that down time by moisturizing. These Garnier products seem amazing and I will definitely keep my wrinkly eye out for them! Sound like you had a very relaxing time and what a luxury to stay at the Trump Hotel! Thanks for the pics and informative post :)

Glad you enjoyed the post Lee! I certainly learned a lot about how our skin functions and how rest is even MORE important than I thought it was.

A good night’s sleep is at the top of my list for what I want for my birthday this year, and I hope I don’t have to check into a hotel to get it! Thanks for the review of the Garnier Sleeping Creams.

I have the wonderful ability to fall asleep anywhere, anytime. So while my nights sleep is often interrupted I still manage to get rest.

WoW! What a great review! Sorry you couldn’t make it Lena, it sounded like heaven! I could use Garnier Ultra-Lift Miracle Sleeping Creams and a night at the Garnier Miracle Hotel like…yesterday! I’ll have to put it on my list (the sleeping cream, not the hotel unless it comes with the sleeping cream lol) I bet the Trump Hotel was beautiful!

The only time I think I get a semi good night sleep is if I just made the bed with sheets that have hung out on a clothesline.
