FundScrip: A Better Way to Fundraise

August 27, 2017 By Lena 156 Comments

Note: The following giveaway is open to Canadians only.

Right now, you’re on one side of the fence. Either you’re part of a committee that makes decisions when it comes to fundraising for your school, team or church event… or you’re the person who buys the chocolates (because really, what else is there?) to help attain the committee’s goal.

Today, I’m here to tell you there’s a better way to raise funds.

Introducing FundScrip. FundScrip is a Canadian fundraising program in which your supporters pay for their shopping (groceries, gas, home and garden, entertainment, restaurants, and much more) with gift cards. Each purchase automatically includes a donation to your cause! FundScrip has helped Canadians raise over $18,000,000 for a wide variety of worthy causes.
There are many different ways you could go about using FundScrip to achieve your fundraising goals, but in a nutshell, all you need to do is encourage supporters of your campaign to pay for their everyday expenses and gifts with gift cards bought from FundScrip. Then…

1. Each purchase automatically includes a donation to the campaign
2. The supporter isn’t out of pocket, and
3. They shop where they would normally shop.

There are over 220 retailers to choose from, including popular national brands from categories such as pharmacy, home improvement, department stores, restaurants, clothing stores, travel and more. All of FundScrip’s gift cards come from the retailers themselves, so you can be certain they’ll be accepted when you use them with NO expiry and NO hassle. …

Seafood (and Torrential Downpours) for Thought

June 25, 2012 By Lena

Oh, what a night!

When Samsung Canada invited @ShopwithRobin and me to The Toronto Zoo’s Seafood for Thought, let’s just say I shimmied into a happy dance. You see, I had seriously considered buying a pair of tickets to the fundraising event, but one of the awesome perks of being a blogger is that once in a while, a press invite comes at the perfect time.

(Seafood? Check. Lena? Check. Lena staking out the fish taco stand? Check.)

Now to pay homage to Samsung – and their very cool (pun intended) Twin Cooling System refrigerators, I’ll be publishing a separate post with a review of their amazing new home appliances and tips for eating fresh – straight from Kelly Anne Erdman, the Performance Dietitian for Team Canada at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

However, for the moment, I bring you Seafood for Thought.

What is it?

“The unique and elegant outdoor setting, delicious seafood tastings prepared by Toronto’s top chefs, chocolate fountain, wine pairings and of course some WILD animal encounters makes Seafood For Thought this year’s fundraising event you don’t want to miss!”

Hang on. Did they say “unique” outdoor setting? Because this was unique, alright.

To be fair, it wasn’t The Toronto Zoo’s fault. No one can predict Mother Nature’s temperament! Upon arriving at the OUTDOOR event, the sky clouded over something awful and the winds picked up exponentially. Before Robin and I had set one foot inside the venue, we were greeted by glasses crashing to the floor, screams of surprise, and tents hoisted 10 feet into the air.

(Not gonna lie; I thought I was going to die. And that would’ve been the ultimate embarrassment – being taken out by a flying tent at a fish event. Sheesh.)…
