Make Thanksgiving EASY with Butterball!

October 6, 2015 By Lena

Confessions of a suburban housewife: I’ve never cooked a turkey.

Don’t be so surprised. Frankly, I have an aversion to cooking anything that needs to be thawed, prepped, cooked, carved and packed for leftovers. And the dishes… oh, the dishes! Before marrying into my husband’s family, I was in turkey-less bliss.

Then, I met my future mother-in-law. And I tasted her Thanksgiving turkey… and I became a forever fan. Yep, I joined the gobble gang. More turkey please!

Juicy, moist and flavourful – with herbed stuffing and thick, rich gravy – just the thought of a Butterball turkey always makes me drool with anticipation. It’s been a holiday tradition for me for 10 years now, and for millions of Canadians, much, much longer than that.
DSC_1374So, what if I told you that the above turkey, stuffing and all, was cooked from frozen?

The Promise: pre-stuffed with delicious homestyle stuffing, this Butterball Stuffed Whole Turkey is tender and juicy every time. Simply remove the frozen turkey from the plastic bag, place it on a rack in a shallow roasting pan, brush the skin with vegetable oil and roast according to the time listed on the roasting chart. Join us for the #PayitForward Twitter Party!

November 21, 2012 By Lena

Have you noticed a theme to my recent posts? Holiday this, holiday that. And since I’m a Christmas junkie (cue the Jingle Bells and mistletoe) it’s just my favourite time of year to spread good will and cheer. So, consider yourself warned – lots of Ho Ho Ho! talk on the way.

And amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, there’s just something magical that happens around this time –

Canadians are kind. We help neighbours string up their Christmas lights, volunteer to wrap gifts for the elderly and bake festive cookies for co-workers.

Canadians are generous. We donate to charitable causes, collect non-perishable items for food drives and distribute a mountain of toys at local hospitals.

Canadians are jolly. We celebrate with family and friends, turn up our favourite Christmas carols and sneak a kiss (or two) under the mistletoe.

Now you may be thinking – “Lena is viewing Christmas through rose-coloured shades! What about the cranky last minute shoppers, rampant materialism and dissipation of the true meaning of the holiday?”

True. But that’s the wonderful thing about each holiday season – every year, it’s another chance to get it right. It’s another chance to make amends, do something special, empty your pockets for a good cause and see the world through the eyes of a child. It’s another chance to pay it forward.

This Christmas, I’m so pleased to join Butterball Canada in hosting a #PayitForward Holiday Twitter Party. On Wednesday, November 28th at 8:00pm EST, we’ll be chatting about all the ways you keep the holiday spirit alive and your best tips for spreading joy this season. To celebrate, we’ll be giving away six $50 Butterball Gift Certificates.

And you’ll have the chance to pay it forward.

For those lucky six individuals, you’ll also receive an additional $50 Butterball Gift Certificate to gift to anyone you please. Whether it be a co-worker with many mouths to feed; a friendly neighbour who always helps out; a local food bank or even someone in your family, here’s your chance to pay it forward with Butterball….

Butterball Turkey Burgers: Mix it Up!

August 22, 2012 By Lena

If you missed our Butterball Canada #SchoolLunchIdeas Twitter Party last night – you missed a ton of great tips and tricks for making delicious packed lunches. But don’t fear! You can always tweet @Butterball_CA if you’re looking for fresh ideas that are quick on time – and easy on the waistline.

(BTW, they also happen to have an awesome “Mix it Up!” Contest happening right now on Facebook – simply submit your child’s favourite lunch ideas – and recipe – using Butterball products, and you’ll be entered to win $500 in Butterball gift certificates. That’s a whole lotta turkey!)

Now you may remember my recent post “Because Every Night is a Special Occasion”. In it, I featured Butterball Lean Turkey Burgers that my family simply adored (when Reid asks for seconds, I know it’s good!).

The thing is, the burgers come in a package of 6, and since there are four of us, I was hanging on to two lonely burgers for the longest time. At first I thought I would simply grill up the burgers for the two little guys, or heck – just go buy another pack – but then inspiration struck. Reading the ingredients on the box, I realized that the Lean Turkey Burgers were pretty much ground Butterball turkey shaped into patties. Since the meat was uncooked, and had no fillers or by-products, I concluded that I could easily incorporate the burgers into my favourite chili recipe! And, since I’d be swapping ground beef for ground turkey, I’d be saving over 50% of the fat and calories!…

Because Every Night is a Special Occasion: Butterball

July 25, 2012 By Lena

It is late in the evening.  The dishes are done; the children are in bed, I’m pleasantly full and quite willing to sit back and relax after cooking a very special turkey dinner for my loving family.

What’s the occasion? Well, there isn’t one. Turkey on a weeknight? You bet. And it isn’t even Thanksgiving or Christmas! Nope, not since I last checked. So what gives?

Tonight, we dined on delicious Butterball Lean Turkey Burgers that were ready in less than 15 minutes. They were seasoned perfectly, exceptionally lean, the kids gobbled them up and there was virtually no clean up. Now that’s the special occasion.

I know I don’t have to introduce Butterball Canada to you. Chances are, their turkeys have made it to your dining table time and time again. But in addition to their tender, juicy and always delicious whole turkeys, I LOVE that they offer simple, year round meal solutions such as turkey burgers, franks, bacon-style turkey and more. We always make it a point to incorporate lean white meat products into our weekly menus, and with so many delicious options to choose from, Butterball makes it incredibly easy….
