Better Meat for Better Living: Greenfield Natural Meat Co.

Following my post on Ontario Pork’s Social Responsibility Report, and my new found commitment to consume food from animals that are raised (not produced), I am pleased to introduce you to Greenfield Natural Meat Co.

Lena Sandwich (2)I’ll be honest: I’m keen on Greenfield Natural Meat Co. products. Packaged meats (available across Canada) include family favourites such as bacon, baked honey ham and Black Forest ham; fresh meats (currently available in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba) include pork loin boneless chop, St. Louis-style side rib, pork tenderloin and more. 

I used Greenfield Natural Meat Co.’s Black Forest ham in my sandwich creation, and the taste, quality and freshness of the product exceeded my expectations. Now we all know that I’m not a food snob; I believe a variety of good (and sometimes, not-so-good) foods is essential for health and happiness. However, I’m happy to have access to better-for-you choices of meats and meat products, especially when feeding my family.

Here’s a recipe for a quick, easy and delicious sandwich that will soon become a lunch staple. (Makes one serving.)

4 slices Greenfield Natural Meat Co. Black Forest ham
2 slices whole grain bread, toasted
1/2 tomato, sliced thin
1/2 avocado, sliced thin
2 slices provolone cheese
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tsp Dijon mustard
freshly ground coarse black pepper

Mix mayonnaise and Dijon mustard in a small bowl. Spread over freshly toasted whole grain bread; immediately layer provolone cheese so the warmth of the toasted bread melts the cheese. Add Greenfield Natural Meat Co. Black Forest ham to one half, and tomato and avocado to the other. Sprinkle the tomato/ avocado side with freshly ground coarse black pepper. Assemble the sandwich and enjoy!
