I’ve been holding out on you guys.
You see, for the past little while, I’ve had these gorgeous food photos on my phone, just waiting to be shared. But life is hectic, and this summer has been one for the books. So, they’ve just been sitting here, buried in a folder, begging to see the light of day.
And no one puts Poutine in a folder.
The sinfully delicious concoction above – a must-do when in Quebec – can be found at La Forge Bistro-Bar Mont Tremblant, THE place to have an après-ski drink or a delicious seasonal meal on the terrace overlooking Place St-Bernard. I opted for the Classique (cheese and gravy) because I’m a traditionalist at heart, but you can just as easily indulge in Saucisse fumée tout bœuf C.A.B. (smoked C.A.B. all-beef sausage), Viande hachée et oignons caramélisés (ground beef and caramelized onions) or Bœuf effiloché (house smoked beef brisket, pepper sauce, onion rings and fried pickles).
Or, you know, you could NOT have Poutine, but then you wouldn’t be a true tourist.
Visiting Mont Tremblant this fall? Here’s your meal plan for the day.
Breakfast. If you’re lucky, you’ll be staying at the Fairmont Tremblant. With two restaurants, a lounge and in-room dining, Fairmont Tremblant offers the perfect way to stimulate your appetite before a day on the slopes or exploring the area. Take in the weekend breakfast buffet at Windigo Restaurant, or order from the à la carte menu, where I recommend Bénédictine Le Roi de nos Rivières (Our River’s King Benedict): 2 eggs Benedict on English muffin, smoked salmon, Hollandaise sauce, grilled asparagus and sautéed potatoes. Served with juice, coffee or tea.
Now stare fixedly at the eggs. Envision your knife sliding through the center, the warm yolk spilling over the plate as Hollandaise sauce mixes with the soft, chewing English muffin below. Taste the saltiness of smoked salmon; the earthiness of the grilled asparagus. This was quite honestly one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had.
Lunch. A family Mexican restaurant nestled in the heart of Tremblant’s pedestrian village? Yes please. Whether you’re looking for a place to dine solo, as a couple or as a family, Puesta del Sol offers the atmosphere, tastes and experience you seek. The décor is warm and colourful with an appealing mix of contemporary comfort and traditional Mexican style, and for parents of young ones, the bustle is just loud enough to camouflage boisterous children.
Both my husband and I opted for the Chicken Enchiladas; authentic tasting, flavourful and oh-so-satisfying. Served with rice and a mystery salad (jicamas? secret sauce?) that was nevertheless delicious. I almost drooled when the dish was placed before me!
The restaurant, even during the day, was very dimly lit, so apologies for the low-light photos – we were seated away from the window. However, I’m hoping you can see the filling of chicken, spices, sauce and cheese oozing from this enchilada. At the outset, I declared there was no way I’d be able to finish the entree. Spoiler alert: I managed to find a way.
The service was prompt and friendly, and my husband and I have made a pact to return sans kids for happy hour. Check out the entire Puesta del Sol menu here.
Dinner. Above, I teased you with the Poutine from La Forge Bistro-Bar. And now, I’d like to share another dish I fell in love with: Fromage brie fondant à l’érable. Simply translated, it is an oven-baked brie wheel, glazed with maple and served with walnuts, croutons and baby greens.
The appetizer, which is best shared among 2-3 people, arrived at our table with a slightly different interpretation than what was stated on the menu. As you can see, both dried and fresh apricots were added to the dish, which lent a sweet, rustic appeal. It was kind of awesome.
My husband, ever the carnivore, enjoyed a grilled New York steak, ordered medium-rare and served with french fries which I kept pinching off his plate. Although my husband rarely orders red meat outside of a steakhouse, he nevertheless found the meal flavourful and would recommend it to those with heartier appetites.
Of course, Mont Tremblant has a myriad of dining options to suit every taste and preference. From authentic Italian to sushi and more, the choice is yours!
