New Year, New Ways to Stay on Track!

February 4, 2019 By Lena 263 Comments

Note: The following giveaway is open to Canadians only.

I normally write a “New Years Resolutions” post shortly after January 1st, but this year, I decided to be a little more forgiving. After all, is there really only one specific time to start anew? Whether you’re looking after your health, removing toxicity from your life or simply taking up a new hobby, I’m down for making a change when it suits you – not when the calendar flips over.

So, if you’re like me and realized that January came and went and you haven’t crossed anything off your list, I’m here with a few inspiring ideas to get you started! The best part? You can enter to win a $100 Costco Cash Card at the end of this post!

1. Think outside the treadmill. There’s no denying that many new year’s resolutions include joining the gym or dusting off the exercise equipment in your home. However, aside from an elliptical, exercise bike or treadmill, there are many other ways to get your workout in!
Boxing is a fabulous full-body regime and the Everlast Kit: Cardio Fitness Training Bag and Neoprene Gloves is engineered for light boxing and fitness style workouts. The base can be filled with either sand or water for stability and the Neoprene heavy bag gloves feature premium neoprene material.

2. Make sure you have the right tools for the job. If eating healthier is at the top of your list of resolutions, the Breville Smart Oven Air is a must! The Smart Oven Air with Element IQ and world’s first Super Convection technology is the only countertop oven that is versatile enough to replace several small appliances in your home. You can slow cook, dehydrate, proof dough, roast and air fry! We’ve had our Smart Oven Air for two years now and use it every single day.
3. Take care of your gums. Have you heard of gingivitis? Quite simply, poor oral hygiene can lead to inflamed gums. If not treated, gingivitis can progress into periodontal disease, a low-grade infection of the gums that can slowly and painlessly destroy the gums and bones around your teeth. Gross! And I don’t know about you, but I want my teeth in pristine condition for as long as humanly possible. This year, make a promise to yourself to take better care of your teeth.

The Waterpik Water Flosser Combo Pack includes the Waterpik Nano and the Waterpik Ultra, the only brand clinically proven to be more effective than traditional dental floss for reducing plaque, gingivitis, and gum disease.
How will you take care of yourself in 2019? One lucky reader will win a $100 Costco Cash Card! Simply fill the form below with your qualifying entries. Good luck!

This year my focus is on doing things that bring me joy, and also trying to find the joy in the things that ordinarily I hate (like laundry! But – snuggling a freshly washed towel is joyful). Also, self compassion – setting up resolutions is setting up myself for failure sometimes and then not being kind enough to myself to move past that failure.

For 2019, I’m sticking to my ‘just do it’ mantra. (Big sneaker brand was on to something) It sounds silly, but I find I get distracted or I feel the need to get everything done before I can exercise sometimes so ‘just do it’ seems to help me stay focused on staying active.

When my husband is off on the weekend and can take our toddler out and my mom has time to watch the baby, I am going to take the time for self care and either relax and have a bath and read, go for a walk or exercise or just get out and enjoy some coffee by myself so I can be me and unwind.

How I will take care of myself? I will take care of myself by taking care of my immediate surroundings – downsizing and decluttering, revitalizing my social life, enjoying books and movies and TV that I like rather than must see’s. More physical movement and healthier and tastier foods.

The big thing for me is taking time to relax. I never do it, basically. I always feel wrong and guilty if I take time to relax and read a book, when there’s 10 zillion chores I need to do! But I’m trying to change that. I try to remind myself that self-care matters, and I need to prioritize it.
