How Do You Whippet?

September 16, 2017 By Lena 39 Comments

Nostalgia. \nä-ˈstal-jə: the state of being homesick; a wistful or excessively sentimental yearning for return to or of some past period or irrecoverable condition.

I’ll never forget the first time I had a Whippet. I’m guessing my boys won’t forget the first time they had Whippet Sticks, either.
(A flaky macaroon in a thin stick? YES please! Reid can’t get enough Whippet Sticks Coconut.)

But first, let me take you back… WAY back…

I was in fifth or sixth grade, visiting with a friend at her house after school. We walked into her kitchen, greeted by hot chocolate and a selection of cookies.

My eyes zeroed in on the Whippet.

It was a lovely, chocolate-covered dome and I anticipated deliciousness inside. My friend and her mom both reached for one at the same moment; following suit, I gently lifted one from the plate. And just as I was about to bite into the delicate cookie… SMASH!

My friend and her mom had squished their Whippets onto the table with the palms of their hands. Marshmallow oozed out and they laughed heartily, taking a big bite of the mushed cookie. I looked at them, shocked.

“It’s okay to play with your food!” the mom said.
From then on, I believed in the power of playing with food – a belief that I’ve kept to this day. Sure, there’s a time and place for everything, but when at home with the kids, we don’t take mealtimes or snack time so seriously. It’s very liberating.

And remember those iconic Whippet cookies that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on? Today, I share them with my boys! I’m instantly transported back to the 80’s every time I take a bite – and I LOVE it!
In addition to the ever-popular Whippet Original, Whippet Strawberry and Whippet Raspberry, you can now enjoy Whippet Sticks.

NEW Whippet Sticks Coconut and Whippet Sticks Brownie are tasty variations of the classic. Whippet Sticks Coconut is a delicious, flaky macaroon in a thin snackable stick, or, if you’re a chocoholic, indulge in the delicious taste of Whippet Brownie Sticks. Made better with real chocolate and heavenly brownie in a thin stick, it’s the perfect snack or mini dessert.

The best part? They’re a great excuse to play with your food – can you guess what my boys were up to?
They created a “Jenga”-style tower! It took them a few tries because, truthfully, they kept eating the Whippet Sticks. I didn’t mind; with 0 g of trans fat per serving, no artificial colours and made with real chocolate in a peanut free facility, I’m okay with them having a little fun with their food. Reid loves Whippet Sticks Coconut, while Ryder, a bona fide chocolate lover, prefers Whippet Sticks Brownie.

(Me? I’m an equal opportunity Whippet Sticks lover. Feed me all the flavours!)
It’s time to get silly with your snacks! Here are some other fun ideas for enjoying Whippet Sticks:

1. Whippet Sticks Tug of War. If the stick breaks, the person who’s holding the larger piece is the winner. Hint: this game works exceptionally well with Whippet Sticks Brownie.

2. Off to the Races. Ready, set, go – and see who can balance a Whippet Stick on their nose the longest. Try to catch the Whippet Stick before it falls – otherwise, 5-second rule!

3. Play Picasso. Create abstract art with your Whippet Sticks; the possibilities are endless!

Do you have a memory of Whippets from when you were young? They’re still the scrumptious cookies you know and love, featuring an exquisite combination of marshmallow centre, delicious cookie base and real chocolate coating. And now, with the addition of Whippet Sticks, you have even greater snacking choice!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to show this little guy how to make the ultimate tower… as long as I can keep my hands off the building materials!
