Sally’s Cereals DIY: Under the Sea!

June 21, 2016 By Lena

Note: The following contest is open to Canadians only.

We know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So, why not have a little fun with it?

Challenged by Sally’s Cereals, a delicious line of cereals that come in a re-sealable bag, I created a fun, distinctly oceanic-themed breakfast table for my kiddos. Using easy-to-find, creative and budget-savvy materials, I’m pleased to show you how you can recreate your own “Under the Sea” DIY table!DSC_0499aAll of the items for your themed summer breakfast table can be found at your local party store. At first I wanted to surprise my boys with the breakfast table, but then decided that half the fun is having them involved! So, we channeled our inner “Martha’s” and went right to work.

Here’s what you’ll need to create your “Under the Sea” adventure:

One burlap table runner
Decorative fish netting
Blue or green place mats, napkins, cereal bowls and plates
Three glass votive candle holders (or small vases)
Blue tissue paper (light and dark blue)
Assorted seashells
Coloured foam paper, cut into sea creatures such as starfish, fish and sea horses
Your favourite Sally’s Cereal!

As for directions – really, anything goes. Use your imagination or use my photos as guidance! For our centerpiece, we kept it really low-key by simply adding crumpled-up tissue paper into small vases and layering sea shells on top. Then, I took a pretty burlap and lace ribbon and affixed it to the vase with a little bit of craft glue.
DSC_0506aWe had so much fun cutting the foam paper into ocean dwellers! I loved the idea of pink and purple to offset the blue and green. Then, we randomly placed decorative sea shells all over the fish netting to simulate a “fisherman’s catch”.

I was tempted to add a touch of blue food colouring to the milk, but, not wanting to create a Star Wars moment, I opted against it. Oh well, you can’t blame me for wanting to go all in!
DSC_0501aDSC_0513aDSC_0503aDSC_0495bOf course, the pièce de resistance in our little DIY table is Sally’s Cereals! For families that are looking for a delicious cereal with great value, Sally’s provides great tasting breakfast cereals at a lower price than national brands. Sally’s does this by creating innovative flavour combinations families love, in box-less packaging that delivers more great cereal for less money. (Bonus: the re-sealable bag keeps the cereal fresher, longer.) In turn, this minimizes the impact on the environment by reducing packaging.  It’s a win-win-win!

We love Sally’s Berry Colossal Crunch breakfast cereal. It’s made of a crunchy combination of sweetened corn and whole grain oats, with delicious berry flavoured puffs. In truth, it’s also my favourite 3PM snack!
DSC_0508aSally’s offers a variety of great flavours to choose from, including:

– Cocoa Crunch’ Rageous
– Cinnamon Bliss (pictured below)
– Honey Oat Medley
– Marshmallow Cocoa Crunch (pictured below)
– Honey Puffed Delight
– Honey Graham Bliss
– Berry Colossal Crunch (pictured below)
– Sweet Wheat Bundles (pictured below)
– Marshmallow Moment
DSC_0535aSally’s Cereals are available at select retailers across the country, including, but not limited to, Walmart, Giant Tiger, Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, Zehrs, Your Independent Grocer, Fortinos, Provigo, Valumart, select Sobey’s stores in the West and Atlantic regions, and Federated Co-operatives.

Have I inspired you to get crafty? Create your own summer-themed breakfast table and share a photo of it on Twitter, tagging me (@Listen2Lena) and using the hashtag #SallysCerealDIY. The most creative entry will win everything you need to create a fun breakfast table (bowls, spoons, cups, place mats, Sally’s Cereals, etc.) and a $50 gift certificate to Walmart to buy other breakfast essentials! Contest ends June 30, 2016.

I can’t wait to see your breakfast tables! Stay delicious, friends!

this harkens back to the golden age of breakfast tyme when the cereal wars were at their zenith. The Cap’n had suffered heavy losses against the Count, but ultimately Lucky won the wars and united the cereal clans under one high fiber banner.

We love Sally’s! Not only are they affordable versions of our favourite cereals but just the fact alone that they come in resealable bags tops it! :)

Always searching for trendy birthday ideas for my 12 year old son, Evan. Happens in December so a underwater sea adventure theme beats the snow fort and snowball ice cream sundaes. Intrigued.
