Last week, chatting with my girlfriend who resides in Los Angeles, she gently chided me about our famous Canadian winters.
How much snow, so far? Nothing to speak of, really.
Didn’t you have an epic snowstorm recently? Actually, that was New York. We’re good here.
Isn’t Toronto one of the coldest places in Canada? One word: Prairies.
Now I know I’m not qualified to speak to January’s temperatures as I spent almost half the month in the Caribbean, but this snowman (snow worm? snow totem pole?) that the boys made this past Tuesday was actually our first of the season!
Which begs the question – if we’re waiting until February to make a snowman, what impact does our current climate have on future generations? Should we chalk this up to a mild winter, or be mildly alarmed about global warming? I guess my question today is, how concerned are you about the effects of the Earth’s climate system?
I know, I know, deep thoughts for a Thursday morning. Yet I can’t shake the feeling that one day, I’ll look back at this picture. I’ll stare at the smiling faces of my boys with their snowman, and be truly terrified about the world we live in.
Today, I’m going to take some time to learn about climate change, something I admittedly know next to nothing about. Of course, the fact that it’s downright freezing in Toronto today gives me some solace that we’re not about to melt… at least not yet.

Great question, I would have to read more about climate change. Love the picture, so cute!

Weather patterns are definitely changing but right now it is a winter wonderland & snow day in London, ON.

In the past few years i have seen some strange weather here in Newfoundland just last week we had a RAIN storm

Snow isn’t really sticking around much during the winter weather in Ontario. And going up to 13C last Wednesday was unbelievable. Climate change is making itself known

I live in the Rockies and it has been the warmest winter ever! We have very little snow in town, although all the ski hills have tons. It’s pretty crazy and scary!

I fully believe that some of our weird weather world wide this year is a result of global warming, but some is simply just a normal weather cycle! If you look at historical weather charts, there are patterns for years.. This is simply one of them

Love the picture, boy are they growing!! you have a point though about the weather it’s been strange for awhile now and I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when my grandkids are older!!

This winter has definitely been a strange one.

I’m not a big believer in global warming. I think that there is evidence that climate change is a thing and that there is evidence of that for many years already.
Make the snowman!

I don’t mind the milder winter and right now it is snowing like crazy outside and I am not looking forward to the -28 they are calling for, we were experiencing the El Niño effects I just hope it’s not followed by La Nina next winter
Marissa
Cute picture of the boys! I agree that global warming is affecting our winter weather pattern but I’m not missing the snow storms or cold temperatures either.

Climate change is so important. The weather has been so unusually warm this winter. LOVE the snowman!

You raise some good points. Hubby and I were just discussing this the other day. It does really seem like we need to be paying attention to global warming. Last year we had green grass in April and my son was camping outside, which is not the norm. Normally, we expect it to still be snowing in April. This year is shaping up the same, very mild winter. I mean we only got down to -30 for a period of about two weeks, maybe and used the snow blower only a couple times.

After the intense winter we had here on the East Coast last year, I can say for certain that we are definitely appreciating the milder weather – ozone or no ozone :).

Hopefully this winter will be enjoyable and not miserable

I’m terrified about the world we live in now not the future. We’ve got global warming, terrorists, wars, the country is so deep in debt and there’s no jobs. It’s terrifying right now and I fear for our future.
