I’m a former baker. In fact, I was *this close* to pursuing a diploma in pastry arts! I’ve had a sweet tooth my entire life, and always saw myself as the Suzie Homemaker type that would bake sweet treats for her family. That was the dream.
Reality: All three of my boys (husband and sons) prefer salty snacks.
Alas, my pursuit of pastry perfection was a short-lived fantasy, but from time to time, I like to dust off my apron, pull out my measuring spoons and get ready to bake up a storm.
This is one of those times.
February 29th, 2016 is National Cupcake Day! And before you think it’s just another excuse to indulge – and trust me, I will be indulging – here’s why baking cupcakes for your family and friends is the most delicious way to show support for a great cause!
National Cupcake Day is a fundraiser for SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada. Animal lovers and bakers unite to host cupcake events throughout the month of February, leading up to the big day on February 29th. Participating is easy, and with your support, you could save a puppy, kitten or pony and make everyone’s day a little brighter with a scrumptious treat. What could be sweeter?
Step 1: Choose a local participating SPCA or Humane Society that you would like to donate to, and register today (it’s FREE!). National Cupcake Day is officially held on Monday, February 29th, 2016, but you can hold your party any time in February. Once you’ve worked out the specifics, mark it on your calendar and start brainstorming some ideas for fabulous cupcakes!
Step 2: Personalize your Online Bakery. Here’s your chance to show off your passion for animals and how your supporters’ donations will change the lives of the animals who are most in need.
Step 3: Tell everyone that you’re fundraising (and why!). Spread the news about your delicious Cupcake Day party and ask supporters to visit your page and donate in exchange for a delicious cupcake. You can even download a Host Kit which includes resources to help you promote your National Cupcake Day Party.
Step 4: Bake up a storm, and hold the best Cupcake Day party ever!
BONUS: Register before February 7th and raise $50 online to be entered to WIN this $200 Redpath Sugar Gift Basket!
Remember, every donation made to the SPCA or Humane Society helps fight animal cruelty and keeps the most vulnerable animals in our society free from harm. For more information or to make a donation, visit www.nationalcupcakeday.ca or follow along on social media via #CupcakeDayCA.

I work casually at our local humane society (my FIRST job ever as a kid and Ive stayed working there even after I started my career as I love the animals so much) – we do participate in the cupcake day. It’s always a HUGE hit and brings in much needed money for our furry friends :)

sounds all well and good, so do you have to ship out your cupcakes to buyers? How do they ensure all the money goes to the SPCA?

I think it’s an amazing thing to do, to be able to help animal shelters. I donate every year when they have their yearly silent auction and dinner to raise money. Whatever I can do to help animals.

Animals especially dogs are close to my heart and I donate to my local Humane Society every year. But this is another way to help and I hope that do this every year.
