For my Canadian readers, it’s the unofficial start of summer! What are you doing this Victoria Day long weekend?
Years ago, “May 2-4” meant a lot of things to me – predominantly booze, barbecues and bikinis. Planning a trip to the cottage, lake or (if weather permitted) beach required much organization and resources, a task that is still undertaken by truckloads of teens today.
When my partying days were over, I looked forward to what every working gal does – a day off. There was still booze and barbecues… but rather than keep the party going through ’til Monday night, Victoria Day long weekend represented a chance to sleep in and unwind.
(For my American friends, Victoria Day is a Canadian public holiday that occurs each year in May to commemorate the birthday of Queen Victoria.)
Then, last year, a little angel changed my perception of this holiday forever…
Happy Victoria Day everybody!
