The Monday Covet List

The Monday Covet List

November 11, 2013 By Lena

Another Monday, another Covet List!

(A little background: Since I’ve decided that coveting is infinitely more agreeable than reckless spending, I was thrilled to be approached by Nadia Carriere of Child Mode to participate in the Monday Covet List. Together with some of my favorite fashion and style bloggers, Nicole Feliciano of Mom Trends, Vera Sweeney of Lady and the Blog and Audrey McClelland of Mom Generations, we’ll share 3-4 covet-worthy products that we are currently lusting over.)

Of course, I’ve realized that coming up with a covet list is way too easy because I tend to covet things all the time. This week, I’ve got the following gorgeous pieces on my mind (and perhaps favourited on my browser)…

I’m making it really easy on myself this week, as ALL my #MondayCovet items happen to be, well, the same item. This week only, the PIPPA BAG by Modalu England is on sale at Town Shoes… 25% off the original price! That’s right, one of the most covet-worthy handbags – available in a variety of prints, colours and fabrics – is a quarter-off the usual cost for the entire week. Be still my heart!

Of course, if I had to pick just three styles, I am in full-on “want” mode for the following pieces:

The best part? The PIPPA BAG won’t break the bank. They’re all reasonable priced under $295, and when you factor in a cool 25% off, all of a sudden it makes sense to put a PIPPA BAG under the Christmas tree – for yourself! (And I do believe you’ve all been very good this year.) Happy shopping!

Of course, I’ve realized that coming up with a covet list is way too easy because I tend to covet things all the time. This week, I’ve got the following gorgeous pieces on my mind (and perhaps favourited on my browser)…

This week I’m paying homage to one of my favourite Canadian purveyors of frugal fashion: Joe Fresh. The Loblaw Company apparel line, Canada’s biggest clothing brand, launched online shopping at the beginning of this month to eager consumers. And while I’ve never found it particularly difficult to find Joe Fresh clothing – living in close proximity to Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore and the Joe Fresh stand-alone store at Heartland Shopping Centre – I do find it frustrating to sift through clothing to find a particular look or size, especially since each boutique is organized differently. And since I always spend more than $50 at Joe Fresh, I’m loving the fact that the clothing can be sent straight to my door at no extra cost.

HOT TIP: Check the SALE section frequently online. Right now you can grab long-sleeved tees (in 12 colours!) on clearance for just $4.94, and tank tops are a steal at just $3.94 each.

This week, I’ve got my eye on the following items –

Pictured, top to bottom: Ruffle Silk Shirt, $49; Long Puffer Jacket, $89; Wide Stripe Cardigan, $19.

Today’s #CovetList is brought to you by a recent “tête-a-tête” with my husband, who is convinced that little Ryder is committing a heinous fashion crime by sporting a $25 Spider-Man fall jacket. “Leave him alone!” I cry, perfectly content with his adorable little look. “Are you kidding?” scoffs my husband. “A kid as good looking as Ryder needs to dress like the man!”

Is there anyone who can explain what “the man” looks like? Because the last time I checked, my little man is only 5 years old. And to tell the truth, he’s afraid of girls at the moment, and I’d like to keep it that way for the next 13 years.

Nevertheless, Ryder does have a certain GQ-esque quality about him; he enjoys slicking his hair back with pomade, has a keen sense of style and always remembers to match his socks to his shoes. (Dress shoes = dark grey socks, running shoes = white socks.) And so I acknowledged that maybe it’s time to kick it up a notch with his personal style. Or rather, the one I’m creating for him.

Thankfully, I have to look no further than Zara – they have a plethora of gorgeous styles for boys ages 2-14, and as such, I am in full-on covet mode. The coats range from sporty to structured to biker-chic, and with prices from $39.90 to $69.90, I can afford to mix it up. Ryder: get ready to look fabulous.

Why covet fashion when you can covet cake? This week, I’m satisfying my style sense – and my sweet tooth! – with these stunning Custom Special Occasion cakes from Toronto-based Bobbette & Belle.

“Bobbette & Belle’s artisanal pastry shop is located in the heart of Leslieville in Toronto, Canada. The open and airy 3000 square foot space features a wide selection of our fresh baked, home-style, and high end pastries. Everything is baked from scratch, using only the finest ingredients including Lindt chocolate, Boiron fruit purees imported from France, and Nielsen-Massey’s pure Madagascar vanilla.”

“For those looking for an entirely one-of-a-kind special occasion cake, Bobbette & Belle offers a personalized design experience culminating in a work of confectionary art unlike any other. Let us create a cake that reflects everything you wish your special occasion to be: a milestone birthday, an anniversary, a shower or an unforgettable gathering of friends and family. This week’s Covet List is truly one to covet. (Translation – the pieces are *slightly* out of my comfort zone, and hence, I’ll have to make do with admiring from afar.) However, I am in full-on “must have” mode with these items:

1. The Swiss watchmaker known for exquisite classic and of-the-moment timepieces for men and women, Tissot showcases the best of elegant-yet-versatile timepieces, for all fashion and lifestyles.

Pictured above, L-R: Lady T072 Lady Automatic ($975.00), PRC 200 Danica Patrick Limited Edition 2013 ($595.00), Couturier Small Second ($1025). Ah, to have one of these beauties adorning my wrist! Tissot is the height of sophistication and grace. Attention husband: let’s skip the mortgage payment and do me up right.

2. The Pacey Bootie by Tory Burch. They may be the sexiest booties I’ve ever seen, and a sleek black ankle boot is as essential to a wardrobe as a classic LBD.

Smooth leather and a glossy patent cap-toe create an understated mixed-media take on color-blocking, while a hidden platform gives height and day-to-evening comfort. A thin gold band, topped with a discreet logo, adds just the right amount of polish and shine. ($495.00) Covet covet covet….

Today’s #MondayCovet is brought to you by the sublime Isaac Mizrahi Live! collection, available exclusively at The Shopping Channel. Two weeks ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend his Live! launch event in Toronto.

We sipped on cocktails, chatted fashion, and before we knew it – the man of the hour arrived! Isaac is charming and has impeccable comedic timing. He dished on Fall necessities (“Flats. I’m bored with the big giant shoes”); his opinion on fashion’s biggest faux paux (“Lip liner. It’s like a sharpie”); his mentor (“I have a few mentors, but the one that comes to mind is Perry Ellis”) and of course, what he loves about Canada and Canadian women (“I love the geography. I don’t like the hot weather, I like the long winters. I like the freezing cold”)….

Perhaps the most perfect time to covet designer beauty items are when they’re ON SALE! As such, this week’s #MondayCovet List is dedicated to the sale section at Sephora.ca, where Canadian beauty junkies can find the most amazing pieces for a steal!

1. First, I can’t figure out why this TARTE PureOptic Lip Gloss Set is regularly $101.00, because that seems a *teeny* bit steep for 4 lip glosses. However, TARTE is a premium brand, so what do I know? Regardless, the set is now marked down to just $36.00, making it perfectly affordable and perfectly coveted!

Each flattering shade contains a complex of 24 pigments blended together to capture and reflect light. Nourishing, hydrating peppermint also helps give a fuller appearance to lips. The natural hues complement every skintone for a rich, vivid, long-lasting pop of color. This set contains: Sheer Vibrant Pink Lip Gloss, Golden Pink Lip Gloss, Sheer Melon Lip Gloss and Blushing Rose Lip Gloss….

Today’s Covet List is dedicated exclusively to Danier. I browsed around at their Square One location yesterday for a little Fall inspiration; and, while I walked away without succumbing to temptation, I did build quite the covet list.

1.  The Megan Biker: The Megan biker possesses an urban edge that is both timeless and contemporary. Crafted from lamb leather with a burnished effect, this slim fit features gold tone hardware. An elasticized leather waist gives this rock-glam option added comfort. $399.00

I *may* have mentally introduced this one into my wardrobe. As in, I can pretty much think of at least 14 outfits I can create with this jacket as the focal piece. Now I just need to find a matching motorcycle……

1. Yes, I know I’ve already raved about them here. But I’m one step closer to coverting from a “covet” to a “purchase”; tomorrow, I’ll be doing a little cross-border shopping and you can bet I’ll be stocking up on hello oral care products!

“hello is a brand of seriously friendly oral care products. The line currently includes a range of 99% natural toothpastes, mouthwashes, and breath sprays in delicious flavors and beautiful packages, as well as a toothbrush made with biodegradable corn resin and recycled plastic.”

Since I last posted about my latest addiction, I officially have orders from 6 friends and family to grab them a few products each – with Mojito Mint being the most popular request. So apparently, I’ll be that crazy lady at the Target checkout with 12 tubes of toothpaste and 8 mouthwashes. It’s all good – except if I get nabbed at the border, y’all are chipping in for duty fees (you know who you are!)….

“High-gloss lacquered coffee table with two swivel tops including a plane of tempered glass.” Retails for $399.00….

“This lip library includes everything from rich reds to natural nudes all in Bite’s lick-worthy Lush Fruit Lip Gloss formulation. Instant nutrition for lips, this formula contains the same healthy ingredients you’d find in a pure fruit smoothie: real coconut, mango, and strawberry infused with seven nourishing fruit oils for a tropical concoction delicious enough to eat. The Monday Covet List: Three Things to Covet

July 22, 2013 By Lena

It’s no secret that I covet. A beautiful handbag here; a gorgeous necklace there. In fact, one could argue that almost all of my posts allude to one thing or another that I’m currently pining after. Because that’s what a reformed shopaholic does, no?

And since I’ve decided that coveting is infinitely more agreeable than reckless spending, I was thrilled to be approached by Nadia Carriere of Child Mode to participate in the Monday Covet List. Together with some of my favorite fashion and style bloggers, Nicole Feliciano of Mom Trends, Vera Sweeney of Lady and the Blog and Audrey McClelland of Mom Generations, we’ll share 3-4 covet-worthy products that we are currently lusting over.

I can’t wait to check out all the coveted items from some of the most savvy fashionistas I know! And me? Well, I’m currently in a funk over the following three items, because I’m caught up in a “to-buy-or-not-to-buy” dilemma. Maybe you can sway my mind? In the meantime, I’ll covet! …
