I’ve noticed that Mommy Bloggers everywhere are sharing their labour stories today. So I thought I’d follow suit…
Ryder: After “early” labouring for 28 hours and not progressing past 3.5cm dilated, I decided to pray for swift death. God answered my prayer in His own fashion: I dilated to 8cm in just under 30 minutes. By the time we made it back to the hospital I was told it was too late to have an epidural. FML. It took about one more hour to dilate to 10cm, and with every contraction I once again prayed for swift death. Instead, I gave birth to a weird looking, screaming little being. I now recommend strong pain management to everyone.
Number of Stitches: You don’t really want to know that, do you?
Outcome: Priceless
Reid: I walked into the hospital on a pre-determined day and had a scheduled c-section. My hair was done, my teeth were brushed and I pitied all the labouring woman waddling by me. Sixteen minutes after I was administered a spinal anesthetic I “gave birth” to a perfectly shaped, cooing little being.
Total Labour Time: 0 hours
Number of Stitches: 10
Outcome: Priceless
In a funny way, I think it’s cool that I was able to experience both ends of the spectrum: a natural vaginal birth and a drugged-up c-section. If you’re wondering which one I recommend, see “Total Labour Time.”
Happy Labour Day!
