Here’s something you’d have to see to believe – but I’ll do my best to paint a picture…
Ryder has the longest eyelashes I’ve ever seen. Seriously, they’re about 5mm longer than two coats of DiorShow. They literally resemble falsies, and it’s sooo unfair that:
a) he’s a dude, so he’ll never appreciate them
b) they actually curl up at the ends, giving him a China doll appearance (something an eyelash curler could never duplicate)
c) did I mention how unfair it is that he’s a boy?
So other than the fact that he can pretty much get his way at all times with one sly look from his come-hither eyes, you’d think it’d be a good thing that he’s blessed with such assets.
It’s not.
Beginning last week, we noticed a disturbing trend – almost every time he would rub his eyes, the lashes would fold under his lid and get stuck. Then, he’d start screaming his head off (wouldn’t you?) and I’d have to carefully pull at his eyelid until the lashes unfolded themselves and were released. Poor baby!
Well, how do you tell a 2 year old not to rub his eyes when he’s sleepy or when he first wakes up? It’s just what kids do. So now, whenever Ryder come running up to me pointing at his eye, I know instinctively what needs to be done. Sigh, beauty is such a curse :)
I literally have no idea how I can prevent this from happening, and am hoping that it’s not a trend going forward. I think Ryder is slowly being to realize the consequences of rubbing his eyes, but it hasn’t sunk in just yet. Any thoughts? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!
