Lena Loves… SKECHERS Shape-ups

April 8, 2011 By Lena

Note: The following giveaway is open to Canadian residents only.

It’s SKECHERS WEEK at Listen to Lena! And here’s a HOT GIVEAWAY ALERT for you… you can win 1 of 5 pairs of SKECHERS Shape-ups… tune in every day to win!

Now it’s no surprise that I’ve been on a mission to take off the baby weight – occasionally waving a white flag (mostly when a pint of ice cream rudely makes its way into my freezer) – but nevertheless always climbing back up on that diet horse. And while smart food choices are a large part of the equation, so is exercise. But you won’t catch me calling a fitness trainer – I’m toning my legs, buttock, back and abdominal muscles without ever setting foot in a gym. SKECHERS Shape-ups, how I love thee!

I’m sure you’ve heard of these little miracle workers. Shape Ups are designed to get you fit while you walk, work, shop, and more. Used properly, Shape Ups change the way you approach your daily activities; just by doing what you always do, your muscles get toned, calories are burned and your posture improves. It’s all thanks to their revolutionary technology:

“The goal with Shape Ups was to simulate walking on soft ground. SKECHERS has turned hard surfaces into comfortable ground through revolutionary technology designed into the framework of the shoe. The core of this technology is in the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole. These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet–regardless of the actual surface. Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back.

With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps.”

(Yup, that’s Kimmy K. endorsing Shape-ups. Would I like a body like hers? Um, would I like to live in a chocolate house? I think we all know the answer to that.)

The awesome folks at SKECHERS sent me an enviable stash of Shape-ups to help me lift, tone and work my muscles. I couldn’t wait to put them on and begin my workout!

The first thing you need to know about Shape-ups is that they’re not your typical orthodic sneaker. These shoes are hot as h*ll. With clean lines and bright designs, you’ll want to get into them and start exercising. I wore the shoes on walks, while shopping, and even for those quick impromptu errands – hey, even 5 minutes of toning is better than nothing!

Next, it is IMPERATIVE that you ease into them. Please don’t think you can put them on for the first time and then join a walking tour of downtown Toronto. It is recommended that you only wear them for 25-45 minutes per day for the first several days, as both your muscles and posture adjusts to wearing them. At first, I felt a little off-balance, and was deathly afraid of tripping or falling. But I made sure to get comfy in them in open, clutter-free spaces and soon my body got the hang of “walking on sand”. Shape-ups come with instructions, a dietary insert and a fitness DVD – take a few moments and check them out!

So why do I love them? Well, just 10 minutes into my first walk, my calves felt surprisingly tingly and somewhat tighter – almost like I was walking on tip-toes. I also felt an intense need to stand up straight, no doubt thanks to my legs compensating for the rocking motion of the shoe. And, by the 3rd or 4th “workout”, I can’t deny that my butt started to feel like I’d just spent an hour doing squats. Perfecto!

SHECHERS Shape-ups are the perfect supplement to your gym routine, or for any gals (like me) who are allergic to exercise but want a proven, low-intensity method for toning and tightening up.

Did I mention they come in a ton of styles and colours? You can conceivably own a pair of SKECHERS to match every outfit!

SKECHERS Shape-ups can be purchased at virtually any reputable retailer of sneakers and/or shoes, including SKECHERS retail stores! They retail for approx. $119.99, but several styles can be found on sale or on promotion. Visit their website to find a store near you.

It’s SKECHERS week at Listen to Lena! Every day, I’ll be posting a new women’s Shape-ups shoe which is up for grabs in your choice of size! (Value $119.99) Then, I’ll draw for five (5) winners on April 10th.

Today, enter to win one of the “Kim” shoes, a.k.a. SKECHERS Resistance Trainer (SRT) Kinetix Response in White/Silver/Pink! The SRTs are designed to help maximize calorie burn, firm the buttocks, and improve posture… ideal for training at the gym!

To enter, simply visit SKECHERS online and learn more about the science behind the shoe. Then, leave a comment here with why you’d love to win a pair!
