A Baby Sprinkle!
This past Sunday, I was fortunate and blessed to be “sprinkled” by my closest friends!
What’s a Baby Sprinkle? That’s okay, I hadn’t heard of it before either. But my girlfriends put it best –
Since every baby is a blessing, we’d love to have you help us celebrate Lena’s second little baby boy! Traditionally, the Baby Shower is reserved for the first baby, but who says we can’t “sprinkle” this little angel with some love? Join us for an afternoon of girl talk and giggles!
It was such a perfect way to get all my girls together under roof before life becomes slightly more hectic :) And did you know: there are “rules” associated with a Sprinkle –
1) No gifts unless it’s diapers – since Ryder already has so much to share, I honestly and truly don’t need anything for baby-to-be… other than diapers of course! So the rule is, there’s no formalities, no registering and no gifts unless you want to bring a pack a Pampers. Needless to say, thanks to my generous loved ones, I’m now well stocked for those initial 8-10 changes per day!
2) It’s a casual thing – hosted at my home, guests were asked to come in comfy clothes and expect a chillin’ afternoon of girl talk, munchies and baby bump watch. We played a couple of games, but even those were very relaxed and involved minimal participation (but lots of fun)!
3) Even though it’s a “Sprinkle”, a kick-ass cake is required. So for that, we turned to my cousin Cheri, the very talented designer behind Cheri’s Cake Creations. She presented me with this gorgeous cake especially for the occasion:
How beautiful! Inside, we enjoyed a luscious vanilla-lemon cake filled with sweet blueberry butter cream. It was TO DIE FOR. If you live in the GTA, you simply MUST contact Cheri for a special event cake! I am tremendously choosy (read: picky) when it comes to cakes, so it’s a true testament that I turn to her for all my gala goodies.
The afternoon was a success – I had an amazing time and it felt so good to be surrounded by loved ones. In addition to diapers, lots of people pitched in with apps, desserts and drinks, so I was truly able to just enjoy every one’s company and endure the predictable “any day now!” good natured ribbing. My heartfelt thanks to the gals for being so kind and generous! Baby-to-be sure does have some awesome aunties/grandmas!
(A few of the gals had to leave before this photo was taken, but they were there in spirit!)
If you know someone who’s expecting their second (or third…) baby, why not throw them a Baby Sprinkle? I can attest that it’s a beautiful way to celebrate each and every child, and expectant mamas will definitely appreciate both the party… and the pile of diapers!
I couldn’t resist posting this picture of Ryder – in wind-down mode after the guests departed. He’s got that “big brother” look, don’t you think?
