Blog LOL’ing

February 6, 2012 By Lena

If you’ve got 6 minutes, are not easily offended, and want to share a laugh, link on over to First World Problems: The Grocery Store Incident from fellow blogger Lara of The Chester Diaries. I’ve been reading Lara’s blog for almost a year now; her exploits as a “Mommy Noob” are often hilarious and touching, and I love that she’s a “real” mom – she drops f-bombs (often), has no illusions about being perfect, and no qualms saying what’s on her mind.

Of course this can also work to her disadvantage, as witnessed in her latest post. Let’s just say she had her own lesson in humility, but didn’t exactly back down from the fight. Go on, give it a read – I’m curious to see whose side you’re on: Lara’s, or Shakey McF*ckin’ Shakerson.

(When I read the post, I wasn’t sure if I should feel scandalized or laugh my head off – I decided to laugh my head off.)

Simply click the link above… and enjoy!

Beauty Blogs I Stalk: Emily Loves

July 20, 2011 By Lena

As a stay at home mom, I take my fashion cues from… oh hell, I’m not going to lie. I don’t have fashion cues. My trendiest outfit at the moment consists of my new yoga pants and my favourite black tank top. Pathetic, I know.

But I do take fashion hints – and I take them from a gal who makes ordinary clothes seem extraordinary with her impeccable taste, impossible beauty, and her “Impractical Shoe Fridays.” I’m talking about Emily Loves, of course!

“I am a 24 year old French teacher who fell into the world of beauty blogging by accident. In high school I never used to wear any makeup, but once I started getting into it there was no going back! I started my blog a few years ago as a place to share all about the things I love: beauty, fashion, travel, shoes, photography. . . basically anything that tickles my fancy!”

Emily models the clothes I would like to wear, swatches the beauty trends I’d like to hear more about, and most important, she connects on a level that makes sense to me – no frou frou $600 shoes (unless they’re really, really worth it).

She also happens to be another local gal, and I had a chance to hang out with her at the last Toronto Beauty Bloggers meet up. All I can say is, this girl is fashion inspiration on 5-inch platforms.

Some of my favourite posts from Emily Loves:

Black Eye
Impractical Shoe Friday (Look for Less Edition)
Light My Tiki (Torch)

If you’re looking for girlicious tips on how to be more fabulous, let Emily share her loves with you! And let me just put it on record – Lena Loves… Emily Loves!

What I’m Reading: Kindergarten Confidential

October 6, 2010 By Lena

Super mom and wonderful friend Shauna recently started blogging! Welcome girl!

I LOVE her blog, Kindergarten Confidential. If you’re a mommy of school aged kiddos, you’ll definitely benefit from her creative (and practical) tips and advice.

Her Blurb:

When my son came home from Kindergarten with a list of nut-free snack ideas suggested by the school, I was disgusted by the amount of junk food listed. Do hot dogs really belong in a young child’s lunch bag? If the thought of preparing healthy, nut-free school snacks makes you cringe, worry not! I’m here to help with snack & lunch ideas, easy recipes, and tips to simplify this part of your busy life. Open your mind to delicious, healthy food that will stay with your busy bees throughout the day!

Her Bio:

I am a wife and mother of two busy boys, Aidan who is 5 and Josh who is 18 months. I also work a full-time job outside of my home. Being a mother has been my greatest goal in life. Although my days are mostly full of Lego’s and Playdoh, I have many interests outside of mommyhood. I love to paint and write. I have written a few unpublished children’s stories for my sons, which has been a lot of fun! I’m now ready to share my thoughts with the blogging world.

Definitely check out her recipe for Apple Pie Muffins!

What I’m Reading: postgradlife

September 16, 2010 By Lena

Hello lovelies!

Just wanted to turn you on to this new blog that I’ve been reading – postgradlife by the smart and sexy Caitlin! If you’re looking for fun advice on fashion, beauty, TV, fitness, or just fluff, you’ll enjoy her witty, charming and completely sarcastic (loves it) point of view.

Her bio:

This blog came to me after a few VERY dramatic series of events in my life, and I thought to myself after I paid $750 (out of my very small savings account) to fix my car and 5 minutes later smashing my 2003 4-door Sunfire into a brand new Lexus, that someone out there might get a kick out of my “wonderful” post graduate life. I find recent grads come out of University with their 50,000 -ish dollar degree grinning from ear to ear with hope and dreams fluttering through their smart little brains….and then SMACK! Reality hits. Mom and Dad suddenly stop sending you monthly cheques for rent, booze, and other little luxuries. The dream job you thought you would get because you have a degree is non-existent, and you are BROKE! Welcome to my post-graduate life followers! I hope you enjoy the trial and tribulations of my eventual life after school, and I hope all you other post-graduates find solitude in my experiences with my new independence! Enjoy and feel free to leave comments! Love Caitlin!

Every Friday she posts “How To’s” which are not to be missed. My higher than heaven hair is a result of her How To Make Hair BIG post! Fab fo-sure!

Link on over and say hi! You’ll love her blog!
