There are things I miss about 90’s. I miss 90210 (the original, iconic cast) and finding Lip Smackers at the bottom of my backpack. I miss Goosebumps books and crimped hair. But most of all, I miss the stack of magazines found in every corner of my bedroom.
Issues of Seventeen and Teen Vogue piled high next to my bed, within convenient reach for late-night reading. Cosmopolitan for the smut I shouldn’t be reading and Martha Stewart Living for all the things I aspired to be.
When I (finally) moved out of my parent’s home, I left them all behind – they were later thrown into the recycling bin with my permission. And as the years passed, I found myself purchasing fewer and fewer magazines, embracing our paperless society and freeing space in my handbag.
However, I missed my magazines.
I missed the inspiration I found from the photographs and the information I absorbed in the articles. I missed catching up on the latest trends, coming across drool-worthy recipes and even the FOMO-inducing paranoia of not having the latest “it” bag or boots.
But could I find a way to continue my love for magazines in a paperless world? I did find a way – thanks to Texture.Texture is Canada’s only digital subscription magazine service that gives you unlimited access to over 200 of the world’s best magazines. No matter what you’re into — food and fashion, celebrity and entertainment, news and business, sports and fitness, travel and lifestyle — you can discover what you love with Texture.
Some of my family’s favourite magazines include Boy’s Life, Chatelaine, Esquire, Consumer Reports, Fortune, Glamour, GQ, Maclean’s, National Geographic Kids, HELLO! Canada, PEOPLE, Sports Illustrated, The New Yorker, Time, US Weekly, Vogue, and Wired… just to name a few!
The best part? You can access one account on up to five devices! This means everyone in your family can have access to their favourite reading material in a quick and convenient fashion. You’ll receive unlimited access to all weekly magazines, unlimited access to all monthly magazines (includes all back issues!) and the app is available on the most popular tablets and smartphones.
Still need convincing? The service is only $14.99 per month – and when you sign up, you’ll receive your first month FREE! From there, you’ll have no commitment and can cancel online anytime. (If you cancel before your first month is up, you won’t be charged. If you enjoy Texture, do nothing at the end of the 30-day period and your plan will automatically continue month to month.)
But really, why wouldn’t you want all the best magazines available in one click?
This month, I’ve been perusing my favourite magazines on Texture for fall-inspired fashion, beauty and lifestyle. Here’s what I found:
Fashion (via Cosmopolitan). Polished and pretty hairstyles ruled the runway this season. Sleek ponytails, smooth buns and precisely parted tresses are key to taking on the trend.
Beauty (via New Beauty). Celebrity makeup artist Mary Irwin says, “This fall, you will find lip colors that are in the orange family, as well as eye shadows and pencils. It’s bold, but is a color that looks great on every skin tone.” Different from bright oranges, expect modern variations on burnt sienna, rust, coral and tangerine.
Food (via Cookie Light). Take a new take on turkey with Thai Turkey Lettuce Cups! Crisp, delicate butter lettuce leaves have a cup shape that’s perfect for holding the sweet-and-savory ground turkey mixture and crunchy, colorful vegetables. Yum!
Health (via Prevention). When you purchase your pumpkins for Halloween décor, you may want to purchase one more: a cup of pumpkin has only 30 calories, 3 grams sugar, and 197% of your daily dose of vitamin A, which helps keep your vision sharp and immune system strong.
Décor (via Martha Stewart Living). Purchase small, decorative pumpkins of different sizes and shapes to pair with assorted white votive candles. It makes a simple and effective tablescape!
DIY (via HGTV Magazine). Take your front door from woeful to WOW with a fresh coat of paint in a fall-inspired hue. Try burnt orange, rust, burgundy or caramel.

It’s great to save all those trees by going paperless. I’ll kind of miss ripping out recipes and articles though. I know you can save pages in the digital version but it’s somehow not as satisfying. Definitely the way of the future though. Several magazines don’t even publish paper versions any more!

I still like flipping through print magazines but I love the ease of accessing multiple magazines and avoiding unwanted ads that Texture allows for.

I’m pretty old fashioned and love the feel of flicking through a magazine with my fingers but I might just try the digital version…who knows, it might even end up liking it!

It’s perfect when traveling no bulky bags full of magazines

Wow. I didn’t know there was that many choices available. Awesome.

I actually prefer to read on my devices. It is easier to make print larger. This is a great way to get those magazines.
Judy Cowan
Definitely a great option, I stopped buying magazine because I found that they were getting too expensive. Will have to check this out.

I love the idea, but don’t like the layout of the pages on Texture

I love Texture! My friend gave me a subscription, an I’ve been having a great time, reading my fab publications. I am trying to get into reading Forbes (:)), Vanity Fair (I want to support them more, since they have a new female editor at the helm!), Mother Jones, the Atlantic. GOOD!

This would save so much money in a household that loves magazine subscriptions!

I love texture! I’m the worst at buying magazines and never throwing them away. No more of that. My husband is pleased, lol.
