If the weather forecast is any indication, summer in Canada has unofficially arrived.
Welcome, heat!
Summertime is for long walks and short naps. It’s for picnics by the lake, ice cream by the side of the road and drinks on the patio. And for one lucky Canadian, it could be a much-needed family vacation.
Have you entered the Banana Boat Canada My Best Summer Hacks Contest? Think of your best tip for summer fun, and share it via Banana Boat Canada’s Facebook contest by submitting a photo and short description. Your Mommy Hack could be featured as the Hack of the Week, plus, you could win $2,500 towards a summer vacation for the family!
Now I’ve already shared three of my favourite “Mom Hacks” for applying sunscreen on kiddos, but you didn’t think I’d leave you with just a handful did you? Here are three more of my tried-and-true hacks for protecting my children – easy, peasy, lemon-squeezy!
1. Set a timer. My kids understand that two minutes is a relatively short time; anything over five minutes feels a lot longer (read: an eternity) to them. So I get out my trusty egg timer to prove to them that sunscreen application – while it sometimes feels like a chore – is actually only a two-minute process, which is hardly an ordeal. Then I set my timer and do my best to beat the clock! (And I always do!)
2. Use a “magic” lotion. With the NEW Banana Boat SunComfort Lotion, sand easily brushes off thanks to its unique lightweight formula. That’s right, no more sticky mess! So if you’re headed to the beach, dare your kids to get covered in sand… and then watch them shake it off. Banana Boat SunComfort is now available in travel size lotion and travel size continuous spray, so it’s the perfect partner to have on hand for those last minute summer adventures.
3. Make it a habit. May I remind you that sunscreen application, similar to brushing ones teeth or combing ones hair, should be a daily ritual – all year round. The very best way to easily apply sunscreen on your children is to ensure it’s a rule, not an exception. Make it a habit and it will become part of their routine until they’re old enough to effectively and safely take over application duties.
Wishing all my friends a safe and happy summer! And don’t forget to enter My Best Summer Hacks Contest; contest ends at 11:59:59 AM ET on June 29, 2016. Good luck!

I like the fact that there’s now a travel size lotion, that would be plenty for me for when I’m out and about.

Making it a habit is key to protecting their skin. Have to remember to apply evenly everytime they head out side in to the sun.
