It’s currently my husband’s go-to shower gel!

6. If you buy just one eye palette this spring, consider TBS’ Limited Collection for Eyes. The packaging was designed by the London College of Fashion – tres cool my friends. I received the A La Mode (02) palette and love the night looks I’ve been able to pull together with the cool combination of shimmer and smoke.

7. Finally, I am in the process of reviewing The body Shop’s NEW Honey Bronze lineup. I was scrolling through my archives and came across this post, which includes one of my very favourite quotes. Keep reading for an awesome deal on storage solutions at Zellers.

A few years ago, while quietly enjoying my essential Tall-Nonfat-Caramel-Macchiato, I read a quote on a Starbucks Coffee cup which affected me so profoundly that I cut it out and framed it. It was from their “The Way I See It” list of quotes. Here’s what it said:

Teething Bling!

It’s 10:18pm and I just punched the air with glee over the purchase of a teething necklace. Ahem, such a wild life I lead, I know.

Perhaps I should back up – you see, I’ve wanted to grab a Teething Bling necklace ever since I discovered baby Ryder liked to grab at my jewelry and put it in his mouth. The product was profiled on Celebrity Babies and other urban mama sites, and I thought they were a cool way to be both fashionable and give junior something to gum at as well. Unfortunately, by the time I got around to looking them up online, Ryder was out of his gnawing phase.

FYI – Teething Bling is the original patent-pending teething jewelry. Made from the same material as most teething toys, the pendants and bangles look great on the adult wearer but are safe for curious babies to handle and chew. The products are non-toxic, phthalate, BPA, PVC, latex and lead free and all pendants come with a breakaway clasp as an added safety measure.

So I figured that Reid would be the lucky beneficiary of a more organized mommy, and I visited a few local stores that carried the product. Impressive? Sure. Not so impressive was the $24.99 price tag. I know, I know, it’s “jewelry”, but it’s also a teething toy, dammit, and I refused to pay $25 for a teething toy.

Then, months ago, I saw them on Babysteals.com for just $9.99. But urgh! I was too late – by the time I checked in at 11:26am – just 26 minutes after they went on sale – the site was sold out. I made a promise that I would stalk Babysteals like an animal until they came up for sale again.

And they did. Last week. And I was out for the day, running errands. FML.

This morning, Reid spent about 10 minutes sucking on his hands; a veritable pool of baby drool. It was time to buy the damn Teething Bling. I jumped online, shamefully ready to pay full price.

And then the heavens parted. On the home page, I saw this glorious ad:

I like! I like! I was so happy because the Bronze pendant was at the top of my wish list! I was down $10 from what Canadian retailers sell the product for. Not bad at all.

Shipping to Canada was a paltry $3, so I was prepared to spend $18 US total ($18.40 CDN) and considered it a deal. BUT, then I remembered good ol’ Google Search for “teething bling coupon code” and was able to come up with code S-SMJ, which offered 20% off my purchase! So, the total cost including shipping? $15! Woot! Woot!

Resume gleeful air punching.

Changes…

I hate change. I am officially not tolerant of ambiguity. I’d rather watch movies I’ve already seen, re-read favourite books than crack open a new one, and order the same dish at a local restaurant. However, I’ve learned over the last few years that change is not only to be expected; it is constant.

So I’m coping, probably better than expected. And although I really haven’t learned to welcome change, I am certainly embracing it on a weekly, daily, and sometimes hourly basis (those are usually bad days).

When I started Listen to Lena!, it was simply a central place to post some sales that I thought my girlfriends would be interested in. The deals were specific to the likes and consumption patterns of the circle, and generally featured makeup, fashion, and some parenting deals.

Then, through word of mouth, the blog grew in readership (nice). All of a sudden I had readers e-mailing me with tips, questions, and praise for my efforts. It was gravy, and I pushed to publish more deals, established a review component, and pretty soon, a giveaway feature as well. And that’s how things have been for the past year or so.

Well, a lot has happened in the past year. And without going into the details of my daily responsibilities (Google “Mom” and you’ll figure it out) I’ve decided that I need to relax some aspects of my blogging life so that I can find more time for myself. On the chopping block? Daily deals.

Now I’m not abandoning this aspect totally, because as a frugal mama, I live for the sales, coupons and freebies. But I’m reverting back to the original Listen to Lena! format, which includes posting only those deals that I wanna chat about; the sales that make me want to write a story. How I love writing stories! So here’s fair warning: going forward, you’ll see far fewer deals and more personal entries for the ones that I do showcase.

Does that mean you won’t get your daily fix of sales? No way. I’ve been sourcing out websites over the past few weeks that I feel comfortable referring my readers to. Of course you’ve probably heard of Red Flag Deals and Smart Canucks, and while they’re a valuable resource for deals, the layout can be very busy. So unless you’ve been waiting for a sale on Raid Ant Traps (and have a coupon for it that would make it $0.39!) it’s not always pleasing to navigate through them.

Then I came across Canadian Daily Deals, an awesome new blog that takes the best deals and dishes them out in an uncomplicated, simple to read format. A bonus? The author, Justine, posts the kind of sales that interest me and talk to the shopping habits of many of my readers. I’ve been following her for a few weeks, and noticed that her sales are posted before RFD and SC get a hold of them – which makes me confident that she’s got the scoop on how to save you money! And, be sure to tune in throughout the day, as she updates her blog as the deals roll in.

So once again, this isn’t the end of Listen to Lena!, nor will I cease to post some of the hottest deals. But you will see changes – a different direction if you will – and I’m taking it back to Blogging 101. You’ll see more personal accounts, reviews, random rants, tips for saving money, etc. You know, more reasons to Listen to Lena.

I made a quick pit stop into the Square One Dollarama over the weekend, and although I only needed coin wrappers, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to find another “Damn! They sell that a Dollarama?” jewel.

So you can imagine how surprised I was to find products from e.l.f.’s Sugar Kiss line smack in the middle of their beauty section! Weeks ago, I received the heads up from e.l.f. that this line had been discontinued, and to check out local Dollaramas (US) for remaining stock. Well, it looks like many of the lip glosses and nail polishes have made their way north of the border as well :)

Oh My WOWness! I HEART BRITAX…

There are some days when you roll out of bed, and feel more blessed than others. Yesterday proved to be such a day for me.

During the early hours of afternoon, while Ryder was napping and I was brooding over the lack of sunshine, the doorbell rang. Now, unless I’m expecting someone, I normally don’t like to answer the door while I’m home alone with the baby… but I could see the familiar brown UPS truck idling by my driveway.

As I opened the door, Jerry (who I’m pretty much buddies with thanks to my online shopping habit) smiled at me and said, “I’ve got a couple of big boxes for you today.”

I was instantly on guard. What the heck did I order? Now at just under 8 months preggo, I’ve been battling insomnia for the last week – but surely I didn’t order a two-piece leather sectional in the wee hours of morning?

He jumped into his truck and proceeded to unload the first box – and I instantly recognized the beloved Britax logo. For moi? Things only got better when a matching logo made it’s way to my doorstep next.

Umbra Wall Flowers

I should have just come clean at the time, but as you’ll soon find out (if you don’t already know), shopaholics tend to hide their purchases, so that it doesn’t seem like they’ve spent too much money on the same day. See? I’m blogging about this now, so it couldn’t have possibly cost a lot.

Anyhoo, the same day that I bought the absolutely brilliant wall clock from Urban Barn, I also happened to come across these magnetic floral wall decorations.

Wallflower Set: Five sizes of flowers ranging from 2.5″ x 2.5″ x 1″ to 4.5″ x 4.5″ x 2.5″

Inject some life into your walls with these fun and decorative wallflowers! Colour your walls happy with a bright kiwi or pink, or choose the more sophisticated flowers in black or white. Sold as a set of 25.

Also by Umbra, the flowers were easily mounted with a magnetic pin, making for (almost) instant décor.
