The Kobo Book Report: Top eReading Trends from 2014

December 4, 2014 By Lena

Note: The following giveaway is open to Canadians only.

When the weather outside is frightful, Canadians find eReading delightful – so delightful, in fact, that Canadians turned nearly 300 million virtual pages on Kobo devices over the holidays last year, with 16 million on Christmas Day alone.

Let’s all pause for a moment to digest that. 16 million pages were turned on Christmas Day alone. Like, what?? That’s crazy – but I can totally see it. Cozying up with my Kobo and a mug of hot apple cider kind of sounds like the perfect Christmas to me.

These are just some of the findings from Kobo’s inaugural Book Report, which reveals insightful 2014 eReading trends from its world-class platform, which includes a bookstore of more than 4.2 million titles. So, how does your library stack up? Check out the eBook best sellers of 2014:

1. Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn
2. The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
3. Insurgent – Veronica Roth
4. Allegiant – Veronica Roth
5. Divergent – Veronica Roth
6. The Goldfinch – Donna Tartt
7. Written in My Own Heart’s Blood – Diana Gabaldon
8. The Rosie Project – Graeme Simsion
9. The Husband’s Secret – Liane Moriarty
10. Philomena – Martin Sixsmith

Do you use an eReader? Since purchasing my first Kobo back in 2010, I’ve been a loyal fan, upgrading my device twice. And it makes the perfect holiday gift!

The new 6.8-inch HD Kobo Aura H2O will continue to elevate Canadians’ reading experience in 2015 with its waterproof and dustproof features, giving readers the choice to enjoy their favourite stories anywhere. The eReader has customizable fonts, ample storage and reading stats, and the discovery of new titles is easy with on-device recommendations based on readers’ activity and preferences. Available in black, it retails for $179.99 (MSRP) online and in-store at select Canadian retailers.

Ralph Lauren Giveaway (2)Now listen up, because I’m going to try to duplicate that cozy-up-on-Christmas-Day experience for you. I’ve got a gorgeous Ralph Lauren throw and a $25 Kobo Gift Card to give away, courtesy of my friends at Kobo. This prize is valued at $150! To enter, simply fill the form with your qualifying entries.

Of course, you *may* be wondering what’s currently in my Kobo library. This week, I’m reading Shopaholic to the Stars – “Sophie Kinsella returns to her beloved Shopaholic series with Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) newly arrived in Hollywood and starry-eyed.”

Chick lit at its finest, folks! Good luck!

Well, I haven’t actually read an adult book in 2014… :-( Busy toddlers/kids take up my reading time! But the book that I really want to read before the year ends is The Fault in Our Stars. My husband has some time off the last week and a half of 2014 so I am planning some “me” time that includes reading this book!!
