If you’re a parent who grew up in the 80’s, have a darling little girl, and are looking for a fun and (quasi) unique Halloween costume, may I present to you… The Cabbage Patch Kid.
Meet the owner of TheLilliePad, Amanda Lillie.
“In 2010, while visiting Spain with my husband, a missionary taught me how to crochet. Crochet had always baffled me, but I had always been drawn to the beautiful stitches you could do with crochet. In fact, my grandparents and great-grandparents were amazing crocheters.
After coming back from Spain with a better understanding of crochet I dropped my knitting needles and picked up a set of crochet hooks and took off! After a few weeks of work I showed my grandmother some of my first works. She quietly smiled and left the room to pull something from her bedroom closet. She returned with a cup full of crochet hooks, all of which had been passed down from my great-grandparents. She handed them all to me and told me to keep making pretty things with them.”
Amanda creations have been featured in her Etsy store since 2011. And while her most popular items are her Cabbage Patch-inspired “hats”, she also creates delightful scarves and handmade treasures. However, I am undeniably besotted with these whimsical hair pieces from my youth; watch out, little niece… Aunty Lena has decided on your Halloween costume for next year.
In addition to Halloween (alas, the deadlines have now passed to guarantee delivery by October 30th), I love these crochet hats for dress up, role play or photo shoots.
And before you mention it, yes… I am quite aware that this hat is available in teen and adult sizes too. A separate conversation with my husband, in the near future, will surely take place.
These are so cute! And yes I grew up in the 80’s and had lots of cabbage patch dolls so these hats bring back fun memories! Will have to check out her store on Etsy!
Aren’t they adorable? I wish she made boys versions, ha!
Omgosh these are so adorable! I was a single mom during most of the 80s and remember the Cabbage Patch Dolls well!
Aw, how many daughters do you have, Anne?
I am a die-hard CPK fan (I hunted down 80s CPKs for the twins because they were the cutest lol)…hope you can share pics of your niece in the hat – I can’t even imagine how adorable it will look :-)

Very cute :)
lol! Hilarious! When I was in high school my mom had a friend that sewed fabric versions of cabbage patch dolls. Funny how some products are so popular they get reinvented and cycle back into popularity.
Fabric versions?? That would be great for wee ones!
Love crocheting too. It is a wonderful habit to take up on those stressful days when you need to wind down.
I really need to find a good de-stressor in my life :)
