Orange is the New Red

February 7, 2014 By Lena

Beauty junkies, I’ve got a hot tip for you. In fact, it’s so hot, it’s sizzling. Sizzling Orange.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen so many beauty outlets jump on a single trend. Normally, trend reports are pervaded with wishy-washy predictions, such as bold lips… or nude lips. Fresh faced… or dewy glow. Right.

So it’s incredibly refreshing that so many designers, artists and editors have drawn a thick line in the sand, collectively staking their reputations based on the expected popularity of this fiery shade. And when Vogue, Glamour, Harpers Bazaar and Cosmopolitan – among others – declare orange lips as the one trend to try for Spring 2014, you know it’s time to tango with tangerine.

Now I’ll be the first to admit that orange lips just aren’t for me. As much as I love to adopt trends, I have too many 90’s flashbacks when I try warmer shades. However, I’m thinking an orange creamsicle pout is the perfect fun and flirty look for an evening out with the girls, and may just invest in a lipstick or two.

Ha! It’s one of those colours you can either take or leave. I’m not really a fan either :)

Surprised at just how neon the shade really is!

The closest I ever got to orange was a coral (more pink than orange) lipstick. Definitely not my colour LOL
Orange for me looks best on my plate or in my juice glass LOL

I’ve dabbled in coral from time to time, but even though I think it’ll look strange on me, I’m thinking I at least need to try orange. I’ll keep y’all posted!

I really like this look but I’m worried about it making my teeth look yellow!

Oooh… never thought of that, good point! I noticed that none of the models are smiling, LOL

I have to say nay on this trend for me — I love how it looks on those ladies though!

I really want to see someone rock it in real life. I have to know!!!

    • Lena

Oh yeah? Would you wear it?

  8. Soozle

    February 8, 2014 at 9:20 am

Eeeee. Not a trend I will be jumping on. :/ I don’t know.. It just looks… off?

    • Lena

      February 9, 2014 at 9:59 am

What I want to know is if real ladies at the supermarket will be wearing it come spring, LOL!

I am just not into orange. It is so not my colour.

    • Lena

      February 9, 2014 at 9:59 am

I don’t mind wearing it as a colour, but on my lips? Nervous.

  10. Marissa

The bright orange shade is too loud for my skin tone. I wouldn’t mind trying a shade that has a little bit of an orange-bronzey tone.

    • Lena

      February 9, 2014 at 10:00 am

Yes, a bronze would definitely make the shade more wearable – great tip!

I don’t care for it at all, maybe on some it would look alright, but not for me

    • Lena

      February 9, 2014 at 10:00 am

I think it may look okay on the runway, but I’m not convinced for everyday wear.

i love the colour – just not on my own lips ;-)

I think I’m with you Nicky!

Orange is definitely hard to pull off for most people. I think I’ll stick to the pinks and reds.

    • Lena

      February 9, 2014 at 4:28 pm

I think so too! And I love my pinks and reds :)

not a fan of orange and I wouldn’t wear it. that being said it is nice to have more color options for those who like orange or other colors

    • Lena

      February 12, 2014 at 9:08 am

Indeed! And there are so many shades of orange to try too!

As with most beauty trends, I cant get on board with this one. Orange always gives my mouth a green tinge. :/ I do like the color though.. just not for lips

    • Lena

      February 15, 2014 at 4:02 pm

      Green tinge… so interesting!

    February 13, 2014 at 8:20 pm

Hmmmm… Don’t know if I could do this. I did have glasses with some orange in it – a warm dark orange, and I did like that. But orange lipstick might be too strange for me.

    • Lena

      February 15, 2014 at 4:02 pm

I like that you rocked some colour with your glasses frames!

  18. Guppy5700

    February 14, 2014 at 6:49 pm

Sorry I can’t do it. Orange just brings out yellow undertones in my skin. I cant even handle much orange in clothing..

    • Lena

      February 15, 2014 at 4:03 pm

I think that’s a common concern for sure.

I love orange lips instead of the classic red. My favorite is Morange by MAC!

Oh NICE!! Happy to meet a fan!

I would love to rock this!!! Was considering getting this from my go-to brand, Stila, but might actually go for something from YSL or Chanel. Loving the lip colours in the first pic.

    • Lena

      February 18, 2014 at 6:41 am

GO for it Jasmin! Not many women are confident enough to pull it off… I love the YSL colour myself :)

    February 23, 2014 at 4:33 pm

I think I will pass on this trend

    • Lena

      February 24, 2014 at 6:46 am

      LOL! Totally your prerogative!

  22. Carly

Orange lipstick is very on trend! I’m not sure I’m bold enough to wear it, but it looks amazing :)

I never have been able to wear lipstick properly, maybe it is a self conscious thing.

I’m going to have to break out the self tanner! I find orange tough to wear without t ton of makeup on or at least a bit of tanner to the skin. Love the ysl colours, very tempting!!!

You would definitely need the right skin tone to carry this off.

Orange…hmmm, flirty, unique and different. I would try it :)

I’m not sure it would be good for everyday wear.
