I’m going to take a very unpopular stance here… and declare… I LOVE making my son’s school lunches.
It’s true! Okay, so this is only my second year of taking on the chore, and who knows how I’ll feel about it when he’s in sixth, seventh or eighth grade. But for now, I actually become (often irrationally) excited when it comes time to assemble his afternoon meal. But why am I such a lunch-making fanatic?
It’s because I know that Ryder never peeks at his lunch before he opens it at school. It’s the element of surprise! And I giggle to myself, as I too can feel his utter joy and delight as he opens his lunchbag to find his favourite fruit, granola bar or chocolate pudding handily tucked away. I can picture his tiny brow furrowed in concentration as he roots around for the spoon for his pudding. I can see him sigh with relief as he confirms that I’ve packed his preferred brand of juice.
In short, I strive to give Ryder as many fun-filled moments as possible, because the truth is, while I can control what goes into his lunch, I can’t control the other unexpected moments he’ll encounter the first few days at school. Like finding out his best friend is now attending another school. Or that his favourite lunchroom supervisor has moved on. And that he’ll now be introduced to subjects that are new to him, which will no doubt cause some anxiety. But that’s what growing up is all about, isn’t it?
Hence, I know all surprises can’t be happy ones, so we do our best to balance them out. And sometimes, that balance comes in the form of Chocolate Fudge Pudding.
For parents in the Greater Toronto Area, I’m so pleased to give you the heads up about a very special surprise headed your way over the next several days…

Couldn’t agree more :) Thanks AC!
ha that sounds fun for the kids didnt even know they had pudding truck.
They do now! And I’m all for a little pudding surprise!
Looks like an attractive truck, but we don’t buy this pudding at home as it full of artificial stuff and not healthy. My son’s school prohibits all sweets for snack / lunch, which has been good as he eats more fruits now.
I think it’s wonderful that he sticks to fruits – my sons are huge fans of “nature’s candy!” But, we do enjoy a pudding snack on occasion too!
Nothing exciting ever happens where I live, but thank goodness a grocery store where they sell it is only 20 minutes away.
Hahaha so you can have your pudding fix too!
Whoooooo Hooooooo!!!!!!!
LOL – I take it you like pudding, Allie!!
Always fun having little surprises in life. The pudding truck sounds very cool!
It is! And such a nice surprise :)
Cute idea – it won’t be coming to my area though, but I can imagine the looks on some kids faces when they realize it’s pudding and not ice cream !! Surprise !! LOL
Exactly! And pudding is much more welcome in fall, I’m sure!
Nice surprise for the kids and a way to drum up business
Bingo! But an awesome surprise nonetheless!
My jaw literally dropped when I saw the picture of that truck! And I’m a grown woman who has never liked pudding! I can imagine it would be quite a sight for the kids!
Hahaha oh I love that Victoria :)
I love this idea, who doesn’t have memories of chasing the ice cream truck :)
Everyone I know. Jason!
Okay.. speaking as the ‘older and more experienced’ mom ( :p), I hope Ryder is making his own lunches at least most of the time by gr.8!
Now Id be chasing that truck down the street if we were so lucky to have one!
See? I have no idea when kids need to make their own lunches cause I’m not there yet, LOL. Thanks for the words of wisdom!
This is super exciting. Do they have a schedule of where they are gonna stop when LOL :)
Well they DO have a schedule… but then it wouldn’t be a surprise!!
Oh how fun, I am glad they did this. I am sure there were allot of happy children.
I received a coupon for free pudding in the mail yesterday.
Kids and grownups all love the Snack Pack
