It’s no secret that I shop at Walmart for… well, everything.
Seriously, is there anything you can’t find at Walmart? From beauty products to bananas, toys to t-shirts, pet food to paint, and more… chances are, if you need it, you’ll find it at Walmart. Often, at an unbeatable price. Ka-chow!
And so in anticipation of my first annual Canada Day BBQ (read: an excuse to show off our brand new patio), I booted it to Walmart this morning to grab a few essentials for our little party. Would you believe I was in and out in under 30 minutes? It’s true! I’m not normally one to shop-and-scoot, but since everything was so easy to find, my mission was accomplished in under a half hour. Want to see what I grabbed? Of course you do!
Upon entering the store, I decided that every outdoor party needs water guns, so I let Reid choose his favourite from a massive display of outdoor toys. He originally selected one that was *slightly* on the expensive side, but that’s when a great selection comes in handy, as I was able to steer him in the direction of more affordable toys. (I mean, $29.44 for a super soaker is a tad excessive. Thankfully, there were tons in the $10-15 price range.)
Next, we booted it to the center aisle, where I just knew I’d find a special section devoted to Canada Day goodies. Predicable? Sure. Appreciated? You bet. It’s great to know exactly where Walmart stashes their special occasion merchandise; it makes navigating the store so much easier.
Within moments I filled my cart with affordable, Canada-themed goodies, including drinking cups with lids, paper plates and even beach towels.
I was just about to leave when I noticed these shot glasses adorned with the Maple Leaf. My husband has a long-standing tradition of collecting a shot glass from every city/country he visits. (I’m actually in the dog house right now for not returning with a Cincinnati shot glass last week.) I realized with a laugh that we don’t actually own any Canadian-themed shot glasses! So I grabbed one for his collection, and four to distribute shots of Crown Royal to our adult guests – hey, we are celebrating Canada, and what’s more Canadian than whisky?
On my way to the bakery, I passed a promo stand advertising Kraft Barbecue sauce, on Rollback for just $1.00. Since I was fairly certain that at least something on the grill would be slapped with sauce, I decided this was a great time to try something new. I grabbed the Chicken & Rib Sauce, and made a mental note to remind the husband to grill up some drumsticks.
Made it to the bakery, and found exactly what I was looking for: Maple Leaf sugar cookies. They may not look like much, but trust me, these cookies are seriously yummy and kids love them! I decided that they’d look fabulous on a large platter surrounded by strawberries and a cream cheese dip (to continue the red/white theme).
Of course, thinking of cookies made me realize that I needed to grab some Monsters University cookies for the boys. Have you seen them? Exclusive to Walmart, they’re square-shaped chocolate chip cookies with Monsters University characters stamped on top. And, they’re only $1.48 to boot. They even come with stickers! #Roar! #Winning
One shelf down, my eyes were drawn to these Limited Edition Ritz Crackers – covered in fudge. OMG. While these were not strictly on the Canada Day BBQ shopping list, I just had to have them. I suppose *I could* serve them, but we both know I won’t.
And now, may I present the highlight of my shopping spree – on the way to the checkout, I spotted this groovy Hamilton Beach Ice Shaver for just $29.00. Now THAT’S one way to become the talk of the town – make your own snow cones! I love the fabulous apple green colour and just know it’ll be a hit with the kiddos. Score! They were parked right next to the Mr. Freeze freezies, which were listed at $6.67 but rang in at $4.00. Double score!
And that, my friends, is how I pumped up the patriotism for a Canada Day BBQ. In minutes, I found everything I needed at Walmart, my favourite place in the entire world. It’s not to late to boot it to your local store! Take your long weekend parties from so-so to spectacular with a few key pieces. Happy Canada Day all!
I love that they always have the seasonal/festive items right in the center – or in my store’s case – right at the front as you walk in. No need to wander around looking for everything you need, it’s all right there.
And now I want maple cookies. Damn you, Lena.
Exactly. In and out, and they have a great selection! And the maple cookies are super yummy :)
Walmart is great, it is out go-to store!
Mine too Judy!
You lie, lol! No way you got out of Walmart in a 1/2 hour – especially with a child in tow! :D
Im lovin’ those Maple leaf insulated tumblers!
Hahaha hand on heart, I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! But then, I only brought Reid, and he’s not usually a nuisance!
My husband and I go to Walmart with a list and always come out with at least twice of what was on the list lol I love that for whatever holiday it is, they have all of the supplies right at the front door!
It’s so true! I normally can’t get out of Walmart without spending at least $50 – even if I walked in there for a magazine!
Those Canada cups are pretty cool
:) They certainly are.
Awesome Canada Day finds! :) So fun!
Thanks Nicole! It was a lot of fun!
Love Walmart! I didn’t know they go all out for Canada Day like this though! Pretty cool!
They do! In fact, they go all out for almost every occasion, so be sure to stop by your local store!
Love the Canada day products that you scored will have to get some for my BBQ too!
Please do! Can’t wait to put them to use today!
I headed there yesterday and I am all set too, check out my post in a wee bit :)
I certainly will!
Those beach towels look great. The Monsters U cookies would be a great snack to stash in my purse when we go see the movie which I think we will do this week! I refuse to buy snacks at the Theater!!
Hahaha I’m the same way – ALL my boys want to do while watching a movie is EAT! So I normally stash a few extra goodies!
It’s so perfect that your patio is done before Canada Day! I hope and I’m sure it will have a lovely debut :) Happy Canada Day!
The timing IS perfect! Love it! Same to you Victoria!
I love Walmart for summer fun products along with Dollar rama and Canadian tires
Yup – all great stores for holiday-themed picks!
Way to go Lena!
That’s a really great collection of party supplies! The Ice shaver sounds like it would be a lot of fun – I remember loving the old Snoopy Sno-cone maker back in the day hah :-)
I am also really loving those beach towels – I think I will need to scoop some of those up!
Happy Canada day! :-)
I always wanted a Snoopy Sno Cone maker but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Can’t wait to break out the ice shaver! Happy Canada Day to you too!
Our closest Walmart is a super store, seriously huge, by the time I leave it I am exhausted but maniacally happy.
Haha love that – maniacally happy :)
both walmarts in my city are being turned into grocery store walmarts. not sure yet i we will buy everything there or i we will just buy the best deals at each store… hubby is willing to use coupons but reuses to price match.
Ah, but price matching is the best part about shopping at Walmart! :)
I ususally only shop at Walmart once every few months. Partly because the closest one is 40 minutes away and partly because I always leave with WAY more then I went in for, lol. Love the deals you can find though!
Yup, that ALWAYS happens to me too!
Water guns sure have come a long way!!
They certainly have!
