After posting my Disney Social Media Moms: Frugal Fashion Recap, many readers wrote in to inquire about the 20% off coupon I used at the Banana Republic Factory Store. Here’s an excerpt from the post:
“With an abstract floral print and a figure-flattering empire waist, the dress was originally $110 – on sale for 40% off. Thankfully, I read In Touch every week – and always remember to save their GAP Factory Store and Banana Republic Factory Store coupons. Hence, I was able to receive an additional 20% off, making the dress only $52.80 after discounts.”
I know it sounds far fetched that an American magazine would contain a coupon that can be used in Canada – trust me, I was just as surprised the first time I read the fine print (over a year ago)! Since then I’ve redeemed at least four (4) coupons for 20% off my purchase of $100 or more at the Banana Republic Factory Store.
Here’s what you need to look for:
Exhibit A: In Touch Magazine. I picked up this issue yesterday while paying for groceries at Loblaws. Truth be told, we buy one every single week; I love keeping up with the drama in the world of entertainment (In Touch is somewhere between US Magazine and People on the smutty scale), and my husband is a closet celebrity-watcher too (though I may have just outed him). The magazine retails for $2.99 plus tax.
Exhibit B: About 1/3 of the way into the magazine, you’ll find right sidebar ads for Banana Republic Factory Store and GAP Factory Store. The ads feature a fashion ensemble you can find in-store, and of course, the coupons: 20% off your purchase of $100 or more at the BR outlet, and the GAP outlet coupon will take 15% off your entire purchase (no spending limit) excluding clearance.
The coupons also have a nice, long redemption period – in this case, the above coupon is valid from May 24th to June 24th. So… I know there are several comments on my Frugal Fashion post of readers wanting to check out the BR Factory Store… be sure to pick up this week’s copy of In Touch before you visit!
I do this online. I have used a number of US coupons at Canadian stores. Many are not advertised as such, it’s a matter of trying it and see if it works.
Nice! Happy to see that you make the effort to try them out – you really have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!
Well, who woulda thunk it?! I would never even look at the coupons in American mags…obviously something I will do from now on! Thanks for the info!
No problem! The first time I read the fine print I was kind of floored; now, I always read the fine print on offers and promotions in American mags!
That’s a nice change of pace – it sure is good to know that US based retailers with stores in Canada are now starting to realize that their Canadian customers also like to use coupons :o) It’s too bad that the nearest outlet stores for these 2 retailers are about a 45 min drive away for me. I’ll keep this in mind and keep an eye out for other coupons in US magazines.
I couldn’t have said it better, Flora! But too bad you don’t have a Factory store near by :(
Huh! I would NEVER have thought to look at the fine print of coupons in a US mag! Thanks for the tip :-)
You’re welcome Suzie! Happy shopping!
Good tip!
Wow! Nice to find an extra discount – especially in an unexpected source! Thank you for the heads-up!
No problem Heidi – and an additional 20% off is a huge extra discount!
Ahhh I now have another defense to use when questioned about my love for ‘trashy magazines’…
LOL! Yup, can’t fault a girl for wanting to save money! Hahaha
so smart. I love the GAP Factory Store – will have to try this for sure!
Please do – and happy savings Michelle!
Thanks for the tip Lena. I know where to look for additional savings now. 20% or more savings makes a huge difference.
It really does Marissa! Have fun shopping!
Who knew!? Now I’ll look a little closer.
Please do – there are savings everywhere!
Would of never thought to look in US magazines for Canadian Coupons, definitely something to remember! Thanks for pointing this out!
You’re welcome Judy! Yup, I don’t really think to look either, but they are there!
These are the kinds of deals I rarely find myself, as I rarely buy magazines, and appreciate hearing about.
No problem Jennifer!
My daughters love Seventeen for the Aeropostale coupons!
Thanks for the tip, Sharlene!
good coupon but im even too cheap to buy the magazine.
LOL! Maybe you could borrow it from a friend?
I am so glad I am not the only one admitting to reading these mags – but I never looked at the coupons, so thanks for the heads up!! Read on, sister, read on.
hi i just looked and its not in in touch this week? was it only temporary thing?
It usually appears in every other issue if I’m not mistaken. Once it appeared three weeks in a row, but other than that, the frequency is about twice a month!
