The Best Multivitamin is The One You Actually Take

April 18, 2013 By Lena

Three questions for you:

1. Would you be more likely to book your annual checkup… if your doctor was Ryan Gosling?
2. Would that time of the month be more bearable… if the government subsidized chocolate?
3. Would mornings be better… with a live-in Starbucks barista?

While we’re at it, here’s another one: Would you be more likely to take your daily vitamins…if they tasted like gummy candy?

The answer to all of the questions above… YES!

Taking vitamins has always been an issue for me. They’re big, chalky and have *the worst* aftertaste. For too many years I’d purchase bottle after bottle, trying in vain to supplement my less-than-stellar diet. Then, they’d sit in my cupboard. Until they expired. And sometimes, for a year or two after. Why? Because they’re big, chalky and have *the worst* aftertaste, of course.

(In fact, I recently stumbled upon an old box of multivitamins that expired in April 2009. Durr….)

I’m not alone. Most readers agree that they’d be more likely to stick with a vitamin or supplement regime if they didn’t have to swallow horse pills. Because when it comes down to it, the best multivitamin is the one you actually take.

Now you all know that I’m a fan of Adult Essentials Gummies. Earlier this year, they generously sent a supply of their gummy vitamins and supplements for me and my husband to enjoy. And I think “enjoy” is the key word here – great tasting, gummy vitamins in the most delicious fruit flavours? Twist my arm!

Of course, I haven’t been popping all of the products on a daily basis like candy – because despite appearances, they’re not. There is a very real danger in over-supplementing, especially if your diet is packed with vitamins and minerals. Hence, your first step is to speak with a nutritionist to help identify some of the gaps in your diet and how certain vitamins can help you meet your RDI. When you have, Adult Essentials are an easy, great tasting way to keep you at your optimal health and performance.

(For those wondering, my diet is kind of lame. Though I’m working on it!)

Here’s the good news: I have been taking my prescribed gummy vitamins EVERY day – without fail. It’s true; after years and years of taking the first two multivitamins in a bottle and chucking the rest, I’ve actually finished TWO entire bottles of the following gummy vitamins: Multivitamin, Vitamin D, Fibre Gummies and Omega-3. And, it’s not hard to see that the single motivating factor for me taking the vitamins is the great taste.

I can’t believe it! I’m sticking to a vitamin and supplement regime! And I’ve never felt better!

I rarely take the vitamins in the morning; rather, I wait until mid-afternoon when I’m craving something sweet. Yup, a handful of gummy vitamins satisfies my sweet tooth! And the difference is, the small intake of glucose syrup (what makes the gummies sweet like candy) is greatly offset by the nutritional advantages. Do your gummy bears offer a daily RDI of Vitamin D, Fibre and Omega-3? Didn’t think so.

Of course, just when I thought it couldn’t get better… Adult Essentials Multivitamins have a great NEW taste! Fruitier, gummier and bursting with great flavour, trust me, this is one vitamin you WILL take every day.

“Uniquely designed in a great tasting easy to chew pectin based gummy, these multi-vitamins are guaranteed dairy, gluten and nut free, with no artificial sweeteners, flavours or colours. Adult Essentials Gummies are 100% licensed and approved by Health Canada.”

So tell me, is it hard for you to stick to a vitamin regime? Have you tried Adult Essentials Gummies?

I have never tried that specific brand but I have tried gummie vitamins, and I love them. I have a really hard time swallowing pills so these are perfect for me!

I’ve never really had a hard time swallowing pills – it’s the aftertaste that always bugged me. With these, the aftertaste is fruity, YUM!

I would love Ryan Gosling to give me some bedside care, oh yes I would!

I haven’t tried gummy vitamins, I think I’d be too afraid I’d eat them like candy!

Hahaha I don’t think anyone would say no to a little TLC from Mr. Gosling! The thing about gummy vitamins is remembering they’re vitamins – so no cheating and gobbling them up!

Its a wonder that manufacturers didnt come out with more adult gummie or just chewable vitamins years ago. Ive been know to take my sons vitamins as I never have been able to swallow pills. Im interested in the Omega 3 gummies!

The Omega-3 gummies are awesome! Years ago they had a fishy taste (from the fish oil) but now they’re completely yummy!!

Congrats on sticking to your vitamin regiment! I’m actually the opposite. I prefer ‘regular’ vitamins to the gummy ones, largely because I have an easy time taking them. Also, I’m weird and something about chewing fruit-flavoured supplements gives me shivers. However, my partner, who is normal, would love these, and he could definitely use a vitamin boost.

Hahaha not to say you’re not normal, but how could you NOT like fruit-flavoured gummies? I’m siding with your partner on this one!

I just saw a segment on, I believe it was city line, urging people to NOT take these vitamins – because of the added sugar.

I’m with you though – a little sugar is better than not taking any vitamins..

I use one of those old school (old lady?) vitamin containers that are divided out for each day of the week – on Sunday I fill the days with all of my vitamins and leave the container by my coffee maker. When I go for my morning cup, I take my vitamins.. Works for me!

Meh – yes, there’s added sugar. But much less than the sugar you’d put in your coffee, would be in a chocolate bar, or in a glass of pop… I agree, if it makes you take your vitamins (like me!) it’s a worth trade off. Gotta say I like your system!

It’s true, I have so many multivitamins that I don’t take because they are either HUGE or taste terrible. One thing that I find hard when choosing which one to buy is the dosage, some cost the same but you have to take 4 a day. that’s just too many, I’d rather take one and get it over with!

Exactly. The Adult Essentials Gummies are 2 daily… which I will GLADLY eat!

I have bottles of vitamins here and forget all the time. AT least now I am able to swallow them just hate it. As a kid I could not swallow pills of any kind. Gummies would certainly be easier to get down.

      April 21, 2013 at 6:48 am

You should definitely look into them Tara – now, I NEVER forget to take my vitamins!

I haven’t tried Adult Essential Gummies, but I’ve been thinking of getting them for my husband. I’ve been able to stick to my routine (I take my vitamins when I brush my teeth!), but my husband hasn’t been very successful with his conventional “horse pills.” Gummies might be the answer!

    • Lena

      April 23, 2013 at 11:45 am

I think gummies are definitely the answer Kim! All my life I avoided taking vitamins… now I look forward to doing so!

My hubby and I take Estra-C and our daughter takes daily Vitamins (the gummies often require 2-4 a day) so we often buy the vitamins that require one dose a day.
