“Have you ever heard of imprinting?”
“Imprinting?” I repeated the unfamiliar word. “No. What’s that mean?”
“It’s one of those bizarre things we have to deal with. It doesn’t happen to everyone. In fact, it’s the rare exception, not the rule. Sam had heard all the stories by then, the stories we all used to think were legends…
… it’s not like love at first sight, really. It’s more like… gravity moves…. suddenly. It’s not the earth holding you here anymore, she does…. You become whatever she needs you to be, whether that’s a protector, or a lover, or a friend.”
―Jacob Black explaining the concept of imprinting to Bella Swan
If you’re a Twihard, or even if you’ve read The Twilight Saga just once, you’ll know about imprinting. It’s one of those supernatural things that is easily explained within the series; however, is completely fictional and could pretty much never happen in real life. Or so I thought.
Yes, I’m a happily married woman. But when I saw Devon yesterday, I swear I felt the earth move.
At first I tried to deny the attraction, walking briskly in the other direction. I fiddled with my hair; attempted small talk with my husband – anything to overthrow the connection I felt. The yearning. The burning. The desire.
Yet, I turned around. Truth be told, it was fruitless to resist – I knew in my heart that I had found him, as he had found me. The pull was just too strong to deny any longer… and within seconds, I was running away from my husband, my outstretched arms open with expectation until we were face to face. He was mine. He was coming home with me.
So, I gave in to the feeling completely, and bought him. Meet my new true love.
Have you ever imprinted on an object? That moment when you just had to buy something? Do tell!
That is a gorgeous bag, Lena! Great choice. It’s so classy and fab at the same time! I loveeee it.
I think so too! For swankier occasions I can remove the logo charm and tassle, but for day-to-day it adds a little fab factor!!
Last year I saw these shoes in a store in the MoA on a girls trip to Minneapolis.. I am pretty sure I walked by the SAME store to gawk at them about 40 times.. I didn’t buy them as I do not need new shoes in the least.. in fact, I need to get rid of shoes as I have no space for them…
I leave the mall and was still thinking of these shoes… so the next day when I saw them in Albertville, on sale, I purchased them. They NEEDED to be mine :-)
It happens hah
Hahaha I can just picture you walking by and gawking, because I’d do the same!
I felt the same way a few years ago and just had to buy a Timmy Woods purse. I have never regretted it.
Good for you! Sometimes you just have to give in to the craving!
Gorgeous purse Lena! The imprinting definitely happens to me, but I’ve never been much of an “impulse” buyer, if you know what I mean? I get that feeling, don’t make the purchase, feel tortured by thoughts of it for a week, and then go back to get it. I should try some instant gratification a la Lena to save me some time and mental anguish!
Hahaha I recommend giving in once in a while. There is no gratification like instant gratification :)
Such a chic bag! Devon is too hot to resist :-)
Indeed he is :) Thanks Ella!
As I was reading this I was thinking April Fools Day and then I thought how understanding your Michael is and then I scrolled down a little more…thank goodness…a purse! What a fantastic purse. :)
Hahaha no joking around here! Thanks Teresa!
Ha! So much for being frugal.
Well, I don’t think I’ve ever said I was frugal Char – in fact, if you read my tagline, it clearly says I am recovering shopaholic. And we all fall off the wagon from time to time.
Bwahahaha! You’re hilarious – great writing Lena! Is your husband jealous?
He understands. He’ll have to. Ha!
You’re so funny! :)
I hate to say I have imprinted on too many things I just ‘had’ to have. I have way more shoes, makeup, and bags than I can use up in my lifetime……but at least they were all great deals! lol!
At least they were great deals! Happy to see that you live life to the fullest, hahaha!
Love it! I ‘imprinted’ on Bob. Bob Sweep, my new vacuum. My husband is very jealous. But I’d rather have the bag!
Ah… see? No one can tell when or where you’ll imprint. In your case, it was a vacuum! Enjoy!
That is a awesome bag!
Thanks Amy :)
Yes!! When I was in London years ago, there were a pair of Red Leather Boots at Harrods that I saw and knew that they had to be mine. I walked past them as I was with my family (I was just 15) but ended up leaving them in another part of the store to find my way back to those boots!
Red leather boots at Harrods??? I am INCREDIBLY jealous Anne! Way to go!!!
I love this bag! And I love the idea that you can take the tassel and charm off to make it a bit dressier! I’m not much of an impulse buyer but I have been keeping my eyes open for a new purse..so that might be my next impulse buy lol
Hahaha I LOVE it Mandy! And yes I’ve already taken the logo charm off once, but prefer it on. It’s a part of Devon, you see.
My Prada handbag…black calf skin leather – so soft and squishy…just the right size – big, for all my stuff – I’m sorry, but I feel the need to carry, not 1 but 2 bottles of handcream in my handbag – ha! I got it last Spring, and I still love, Love, LOVE it!!! Squeee!!!
I am, alas, a golf widow from April to October…she was my consolation prize, to myslef. ;-P
Oooh… you are my kind of person, Josie!
Oddly I have never experienced this with a fashion item. I have however felt a strong compulsion to purchase any number of Apple products. I have resisted the impulse, mostly.
:) See? Imprinting does not judge. Fashion, tech gadgets, foods, you name it!
I always imprint on MK!!
