Now Trending: NEON

February 27, 2013 By Lena

Loved it in the ’80’s? Missed it in the 90’s? No fear – NEON is back with a vengeance!

This Spring, designers have a little surprise in store for you – a PUNCH! of colour in everything from clothing to shoes to jewelry. I’m particularly loving the plethora of bright handbags: what a way to make an entrance!

1. Charlotte Street Sylvie, $278.00, kate spade
2. Leather Foldover Clutch, GAP. $39.95
3. Co-Lab by Christopher Kon, Town Shoes. $95.00
4. Upwardly Mobile Satchel, Modcloth.com. $185.00
5. Large Perforated-Logo Grab Bag, MICHAEL Michael Kors. $298.00
6. Leni Charm Convertible Leather Crossbody, Juicy Couture. $235.00
7. NORONEN, Aldo. $60.00
8. Medium Russel Bag, Dooney & Bourke. $395.00
9. Giant City Tote, Balenciaga. $1,935.00

Tell me which one is your favourite! Me – I love the Balenciaga (sigh), but my wallet loves the Christopher Kon handbag from Town Shoes. I’ve been looking for the perfect bright orange – I think I’ve found it!

my friends adore Balenciaga but the price tag is above my range, I do adore Kate Spade though :)

I agree – although I’ve always wanted a Balenciaga, there’s just no way I can drop more than a mortgage payment on my handbag :)

I have to totally agree with you 9 is divine but oh-so out of my league so 3 it would be! Totally crushing on the shade of green though!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:28 am

I am thinking I need to go and grab #3. TODAY.

Beautiful colours for Spring. #5- Pink Logo Grab Bag by Michael Kors is my fav.

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:29 am

I normally shy away from logo bags but this one definitely caught my eye. Love the bright pop of colour!

oh! I am in love with the colors – they just SCREAM summer :-) A TAD out of my price range in some cases, but still very covet worthy!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:30 am

VERY covet worthy! I think under $200 is reasonable if you can only get a few month’s use. That’s why I love the Coach outlet store – you can often grab bright bags for about $149!

  5. Amanda

    February 27, 2013 at 6:19 pm

I like the modcloth one or the aldo one, reasonable for my wallet!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:30 am

Yes, the ALDO purse is very reasonable indeed!

    February 27, 2013 at 8:22 pm

I really like the NORONEN, #7 the nice GREEN number.

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:33 am

It’s such a fetching green, isn’t it? Such a happy colour!

  7. Nicole W.

    February 28, 2013 at 1:02 am

Awesome! Loving these bright colours! My faves are 4, 8, and 9! :)

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:33 am

      You’ve got great taste Nicole!

    February 28, 2013 at 1:13 am

How cute! I love a little color in the summer, the little Juicy Couture is adorable but love the Town Shoes Tangerine color bag

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:40 am

Me too! I can’t wait to see it in person – sometimes the shade is a bit off on the screen… hoping it’s gorgeous!

  9. Myra

    February 28, 2013 at 1:15 am

Some neon colours are not really to my liking however I do love the MK purse :)

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:46 am

The trend is definitely for a person who likes to be noticed!

  10. Sophia

    February 28, 2013 at 1:30 am

They are all so stylish that I’m not sure I can choose a favourite! My top 4(!) are the Kate Spade (#1), the Balenciaga (#9), the Modcloth (#4) and the one from Aldo (#7).

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:47 am

Hahaha Top 4 – you are a woman after my heart, Sophia! It’s hard for me to choose, too!

  11. Lee Pearson

    February 28, 2013 at 8:18 am

Oh my gosh!! These are all absolutely gorgeous bags…I am drooling over these. My favourites are #3 Co-Lab, love this colour and design, #7 NORONEN this is bold and I adore it, and #9 Giant City Tote, this bag belongs on my shoulder! I love everything about it except the price. The colour is a perfect spring accessory and the size is just right. I just bought a pretty pink purse yesterday for the spring, and I bought a coral Guess purse and a grey Guess purse last week…but I could use another one :) I think I need help!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:54 am

LOVE that you bought a pink and coral purse! It’s often so easy to just fall back on the predictable black or beige hues. Awesome!

    February 28, 2013 at 10:33 am

I gotta be honest — neon was never my cup of tea. If somebody gave me number 9 as a gift, however, I would not protest…

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:54 am

Hahaha, bonus points to you for recognizing a quality product when you see it!

  13. Teresa M.

    February 28, 2013 at 11:30 am

I love these colours, Lena! Sadly, me too…always pick the pricey one before even seeing the price! I shopping yesterday and bought an orange top from the Gap…deal…a top from the Gap for $11.99…so I had to buy 2 right?? I love these style and fashion posts that you do :)

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:55 am

That IS a deal! Happy you bought two! Thanks Teresa – I love doing the posts too.

  14. sara

    February 28, 2013 at 4:12 pm

My fave is #1… Kate Spade. I think it’s because the black edging really makes the colour look classy, not tacky like brights can sometimes come across.

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 9:55 am

Great point Sara – the black edging adds just a little bit of contrast which really sets off the design.

  15. Jenny

    March 1, 2013 at 2:03 am

The Balenciaga Giant City Tote is on my wishlist… but I never thought I would want it in anything but black! that colour looks so amazing! Great picks, Lena!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 10:21 am

Thanks Jenny – it’s amazing how many shades the City Tote comes in!

  16. NT

    March 1, 2013 at 8:41 am

I like the Kate Spade bag! I just don’t like the price tag.

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 10:22 am

:( The price tags are for definitely for those with a handbag-obsession, who are willing to dish out!

  17. Alisha

    March 1, 2013 at 11:21 am

SO love that neon is in! Can’t wait to bust out the bright teals for Spring!!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 10:22 am

YAY! Bright teal is one of my favourite colours!

  18. Cori

    March 1, 2013 at 1:53 pm

I love Kate Spade, #1, but a little bit out of my price range :(. Love the spring colours!!!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 10:23 am

These are great colours for spring, agreed!

  19. Joann Jess L

    March 1, 2013 at 7:25 pm

I am always too afraid to invest in these kind of bags that you can only wear in the spring or summer… they are so pretty and nice to look at though! If only I could afford such items! They all look really lovely, Lena!

    • Lena

      March 2, 2013 at 10:23 am

Thanks Joann! I admit, I’m the same way – and often settle for black. Changing that this year!

  20. Mandy

    March 3, 2013 at 12:06 am

I love #6,8&9..but would never spend that much on a purse!! I feel guilty spending $60 on a purse..hahah

    • Lena

      March 3, 2013 at 9:54 pm

Oh Mandy, you have to treat yourself once in a while… no guilt allowed! Love #6 too!

  21. Debbie Bashford

    March 3, 2013 at 9:00 am

I love the neon colours, I loved them when they first came when I was in public school
and I bought a set of neon fishnet stockings lol

    • Lena

      March 3, 2013 at 9:54 pm

Neon fishnet stockings?? You’re my hero, Debbie!!

      • Debbie Bashford

        March 4, 2013 at 8:21 pm

I remember I had a navy blue mini dress with horizontal neon pink and yellow stripes and had both yellow and pink neon fishnets and paired them with my white go go boots, and crazy fringed poncho, lol I was such a hippie

Love the Charlotte Street Sylvie, but then I saw the Giant City Tote, Balenciaga. Love em both but my wallet doesn’t!

    • Lena

      March 3, 2013 at 9:55 pm

Yep, they’ll both set you back a *tad* – I think I should add owning a Balenciaga to my bucket list!

  23. Holly

It’s definitely one of my favourites Marissa!

  25. carizza

    March 5, 2013 at 3:49 pm

I’ve never been a big fan of neon, but I think a neutral outfit with a bright/neon satchel like the aldo one would be really cute!

    • Lena

      March 10, 2013 at 1:27 pm

That’s the perfect way to wear the trend, Carizza – neutrals with a PUNCH! of colour!

  26. Francesca

    March 7, 2013 at 12:45 pm

what ever happened to the backpack style handbag? it will be a while before i trade my diaper bag (backpack style) for a hand bag but i hope I’ll be able to find a backpack style one by then. they are so hard to find now and they dont even come in cute colors anymore.

    • Lena

      March 10, 2013 at 1:28 pm

I think we’re just waiting for that trend to resurface, but we know it will!

Neon was a big part of the 80’s when I was a teenager and we totally had a blast with it! I now see that it’s making a comeback today and it’s awesome! I saw a lot of neon coloured clothes at Walmart!

    • Lena

      April 7, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Me too! Just saw them yesterday!

  32. BobbiJo Pentney

Funny how neon was in in the 80’s but in my opinion neon should never be in unless it’s for kids
