It’s the Only Sparkle You’ll Need this Holiday Season

December 6, 2012 By Lena

With the holiday party season in full swing, chances are you’ve got a swanky soiree or two to attend. Often, readers will ask me what’s the best shimmer eye shadow or sparkly lip gloss to add a little oomph – without breaking the bank.

(We all know the scenario – you walk over to your favourite makeup counter to grab a fabulous shimmer eye liner, and before you know it you’ve been talked into an eye shadow primer, sparkle dust and a dewy lip gloss too – setting you back $72 when you walked in thinking you’d spend $12.)

Well, my best recommendation involves spending a little more money up front, but getting MUCH more bang for your buck than just 3-4 pieces you’ll likely use only a couple of times. Introducing the Sephora Collection Color Daze Blockbuster. Retailing for $60 CDN, I promise I’m not trying to upsell you right off the bat. The truth is, for $60, you’ll receive:

64 x waterproof eye shadow – 12 x longwear cream eyeliner – 6 x eye top coat – 6 x lip top coat – 48 x lip gloss – 3 x blush – 6 x multi-purpose cream for eye, cheek, and lip – 3 x multi-purpose luminizer – 3 x makeup brush – Mirror

Yes, it’s a lot to take in all at once. Truthfully, I had a hard time positioning the entire palette into the shot! But consider this – you’ll have a wealth of lip colours to choose from; everything from sparkly neutrals to iridescent party pinks. The glosses are well pigmented and I love the variety of finishes. The silver and gold top coats would be my go-to for every night look; they’ll transform even your mutest berry lipstick to fa-la-la-la-fabulous.

Next, I promise you’ll always have an eyeshadow to match your mood. Everything from the palest highlights to the deepest smoky accents, go nuts with these bold and rich shades. For holiday makeup looks, simply pair your outfit with a warm complimentary colour – or a cool, contrasting tone. My go-to look this year? A turquoise green shadow with blue outfits and ensembles. It’s very mermaid-esque, no?

I’ve owned palettes from Sephora before and I can authentically say that they have a very long shelf life. I know the makeup police will jump on me for saying this – but my favourite palette is a Holiday 2009 compilation that I still use to this day for a certain shadow and creme eye liner. So, your $60 will not only get you through the holiday season – but through the rest of the year as well.

(Have a teen to shop for this Christmas? If she wears makeup, she’ll SQUEE over this, I promise.)

The entire palette folds up into a neat little cube that is only about 5 inches square – taking up no room on your vanity at all. Although mini makeup brushes are provided, please invest in a high quality shadow and lip brush to make the most of these beautiful shades.

I didn’t even know I wanted makeup for Christmas…until now! Amazing! What I really like is that it’s all neat and tidy in a box. My makeup bag is a mess of individual items and it drives me nuts. I like all my stuff sitting perfectly so I can look down and see ALL of it.

    • Lena

      December 15, 2012 at 6:11 pm
