I’ll Have a Blue Christmas…

December 10, 2012 By Lena

A few weeks ago, I blogged about my admiration for Martha Stewart’s Holiday Collections (available exclusively at The Home Depot). I’ve always been partial to cool, modern decor – and with Ms. Stewart’s stunning Arctic Collection, I had a “Love at First Sight” moment.

Sparkly silvers. The most romantic blues. Snowy whites. Oh my!

And so the good folks at The Home Depot – not wanting to keep a serial re-decorator from yet another reason to update her decor – graciously obliged with some of their most sought-after pieces from the collection.

(Can I be honest and say I did a happy dance? Okay it was more of a jig. But there was definitely knee-slapping and head-bopping involved.)

I’d been quite enamored with the 7.5 feet Pre-Lit Sparkling Pine Tree from the moment I laid eyes on it. Pre-strung with 750 clear lights, the tree includes Ready-Lit brand lights that remain lit even if a bulb is loose, burns out or breaks.* Trimmed with white-tipped pine cones and glittering branch tips, it’s a showpiece that truly sparkles.

*I can’t tell you how awesome this is. With our previous pre-lit tree, one burned-out bulb caused a whole section to black out. However, we turned the tree around so the dark section was on the back. The next year, it was lights out for another section. Sigh. By the third year of owning the tree, only one lighted section remained. #PrelitFAIL

Taking the tree out of the package, my first observation was that it looked rather skimpy. Now I love a good, fat tree – and I couldn’t help but wonder if Martha had let me down.

She did not.

Approximately 60 minutes later – no word of lie, it took over an hour to fluff up the hundreds of individual branches – I was presented with the fullest, most beautiful tree imaginable. Every tip sparkled with snowy glitter; every branch fanned out invitingly. Folks, I can honestly say I’ve never seen an artificial tree of this quality before. LOVE.

And on our tree? A selection of Martha Stewart Living Shatter-Resistant Ornaments, topped off with a Silver Grapevine Star Tree Topper. I turned up the Christmas carols, banished the boys to the basement, and proceeded to create my very own Blue Christmas-inspired holiday showpiece.

(You can just see the frosted tips of the tree from the photos above, which provide a wonderful icy contrast to the blue-tinged pine tree. They do shed their glitter quite freely, so have a vacuum ready while you’re separating the branches.)

This evening, little Reid looked up at the tree and declared: “Christmas is here.” Our tree truly is stunning! Now I just have to add our coordinating tree skirt, set up the nativity scene on our fireplace mantle, and of course, hang our wreath on the door. I’m in holiday heaven – thank you Home Depot!

Love, love, that tree. Even without the decorations it’s beautiful! Love the blue, it’s different but nice.

haha, i like fat trees too – more room to put more ornaments! I love trees that have a theme (ie. yours!) – ours has the most random ornaments!

Love that you love fat trees! This one is so full and inviting. I’m enjoying having a theme for as long as possible – I’m sure the boys will have their own ornaments to add as they grow!

This tree is breathtakingly beautiful! And 75 pieces of shatter-resistant ornaments for under $35? Yeah, I think it’s time for me to replace the few remaining ornaments that haven’t shattered. Yet.

    • Lena

      December 13, 2012 at 9:42 am

Right? I think I only have about 6 ornaments now that aren’t shatter-proof. Two little boys have ravaged my entire collection :(

That is a beautiful tree. My question about the pre-lit trees is: what do you do when the lights burn out? Do you restring it yourself?

    • Lena

      December 15, 2012 at 6:05 pm

Well, the great thing about this tree is that you can replace the lights individually, without having to restring the tree! But yes, on other pre-lit models, the only thing you can do is remove the lights and then add another set of lights.

I’ve had your tree in mind since I saw this post last year Lena. This year, I’m on a mission to find icy blue baubles and silver decorations to try and replicate in some small shape, your tree above!
