Tiny Things I Covet: Rudsak for Kids

September 20, 2012 By Lena

WARNING: The images you are about to see will cause an immediate chemical reaction in a mother’s brain. If you suffer or have suffered from Oniomania, you may want to avert your eyes.

(Oniomania: from Greek ὤνιος onios “for sale” and μανία “insanity”, is the technical term for the compulsive desire to shop, more commonly referred to as compulsive shopping, shopping addiction, shopaholism or compulsive buying.)

The thing is, once you see these gorgeous coats for kids, you can’t unsee them – so you’d better be ready to start shopping. And since they’re priced *slightly* higher than your average article of child’s clothing  (quality + fabulous design + Rudsak reputation = $295 and up) you’ll either be rushing to your nearest retailer, or sighing with unabashed admiration.

Introducing the über adorable Rudsak for Kids. The line will feature the same premium and distinct aesthetic as Rudsak’s fall/winter 2012 line for parents, made city-chic through detailed tailoring and fashionable placement of features like leather sleeves, asymmetrical closures and fur trims.

Kiddos will be treated to three (3) styles: two, named LOLA and LILI are each designed for girls and the other, LULU, is unisex (though I do believe it has a strong masculine styling). LOLA and LILI feature oversized fur-trimmed hoods and a down-filled pongee coat or puffer with lamb leather sleeves, while LULU shows off a bomber-style puffer also with leather sleeves.

It was only a matter of time before Rudsak, one of Canada’s leading leather fashion brands for women and men, branched out into the children’s market. A modern lifestyle brand consisting of timeless fashion outerwear, footwear, handbags and accessories, Rudsak is renowned for its signature leather accents and luxurious, urban approach. Not only do I covet these new kid’s coats, but I’ve been a long time stalker admirer of their gorgeous leather handbags.

Rudsak for Kids will be available in-store and online at the end of September. Click here to visit Rudsak.

Those coats are uber cute, although the styling’s a tad mature for my 4-y-o (at least for my liking). But at 300 bucks a pop — I would never consider buying them anyway. I don’t understand such a high pricepoint for kids. They grow out of things so qucikly — and even if they didn’t, they stain or damage them lickety split. I want wash and wear — and that looks like real fur! Not happening in my household. Maybe if I was Victoria Beckham, though! (Oh to dream) Lol.

Oh to dream! Bet Harper Beckham gets every style, LOL. They are pricey but they’re definitely for a particular consumer – especially those who value quality and have a penchant for designer clothing. Personally I adore the styling and think that leather is both very durable and stain proof (wipe and wear!). Alas, I don’t have the means to afford the price point, so for now, I can just lust after them :)

OMG! Those winter coats and vests are co cute! The styling doesn’t bother me, as they’re coats – when the whole outfit is styled too much though, I think the little ones can look silly (like they’re playing dress-up).

Totally agree with you Kat! A child like Suri Cruise couldn’t pull it off because she’s already too styled – but any other child? Heck ya!

These are super cute!! I’m with Janice though — I’d be hesitant to spend so much on children’s clothes giving how quickly they grow out of clothes. Would you buy one, Lena?

Hmmm…. it’s a hard question to answer so I’ll answer it in two parts. WOULD I buy it – if I had the disposable income to buy my children quality designer clothing? Yes, absolutely. CAN I buy it? Nope – not at the moment, unless I start working a lot more!

Very nice coats. Hope that’s faux fur because kids do not need to wear real fur. Cannot justify spending that much money on coats for kids. I am already calculating the amount of things I could buy for my kids for $295.

      September 21, 2012 at 6:41 pm

Nope Tricha – it’s the real deal. But then, some people will see the prestige in that! So it’s different strokes for different folks!

Gorgeous! But kids grow so fast it would be a shame to spend so much – unless you have many smaller ones to repeatedly hand it down to!

    • Lena

      September 21, 2012 at 6:43 pm

Indeed – or unless your child is around 7-8 years old. Then you know for sure you can get at least 2-3 seasons of use!

Wonderful winter coats…not needed so much here in Victoria, BC but January and February last year were quite cold.

      September 26, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Ooohh – I’d give anything to experience a BC winter! Your “cold” is probably Toronto’s “cool” – LOL!

Wow, my son would so love the little pilot jacket with fur. Even at his tender age of 8, he is style conscious. Remember putting him in an outfit, colours really clashed. Well, “Mommy, I’m not styling”.Gee don’t recall saying that to my Mom when I was 8, lol

HAHAHA! Love a little fashionisto! My little guy just decided that he wants to wear jeans all the time – let’s just say that bed time is a negotiation lately!

I really love them all! I appreciate the styling and “the not so little kid” look! Gorgeous! I couldn’t afford any of them, but I love them just the same! They make me happy! lol

      September 26, 2012 at 10:39 pm

LOL I’m with you Anne! They make me happy just to look at them – and yes, LOVE the styling :)

They look gorgeous on the models, but my son would really hate the tickly fur. Yes, even if it was super soft. I don’t think I could even get him to try one on for me! = P

Never thought of that Melanie! Still, they’re so incredibly cute!

Those coats are AMAZING, but wildly impractical. But you are right there is a certain consumer that is looking for style over the basics the rest of us look for in kids jackets. My daughter would look amazing in one though!!

This comment is coming very late but I thought I would leave a post here!
I purchased one for my daughter and got it on sale. To be honest the price point was very reasonable and similar to Carters Oshkosh for a winter jacket (at sale price) and Rudsak has semi annual sales. The jacket was made of down feathers, leather belt and a real fur hood and lasted two seasons because of the sizing and belt. It was REALLY worth the purchase and my second daughter will be wearing this too because of the quality make. As for the fur hood it kept her sooo warm, and was detachable and easily washed in our home machine. Unlike other kids winter jackets you can get at Costco or Carters etc that are made in child made factories, Rudsak is 100% Canadian made in Montreal by a Canadian designer.

These outfits are so cute on the kids mostly because I think the clothing looks like it’s more for adults
