Peek-A-Boo! I See You! Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook

September 2, 2012 By Lena

It’s been a couple of months since I last raved about my Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook. Missed my review? Then you’re definitely missing out – and we can’t have that!

Read why the Dell XPS 13 is one of my favourite ways to stay connected.

If you’re looking for the Coles Notes version, here you go:

1. Lightweight: The XPS 13 is razor-thin – a slim 6mm at its thinnest point (WOW!) and only 18mm at its thickest point – with a weight of just 2.99 lbs.

2. Exceptionally Fast: The XPS 13 boots up in UNDER 8 seconds (on average for me, 4-5 seconds each time). With a solid-state drive and Intel Rapid Start Technology, you can actually come out of sleep mode in just ONE (1) second!

3. Full keyboard: With a full backlit keyboard, enjoy a comfort-designed, soft-touch palmrest and integrated button touchpad with gesture support.

4. Large display: The innovative design of XPS 13 enables an expansive 13.3” edge-to-edge display in a compact body similar to an 11″ laptop.

5. Long battery life: The Ultrabook actually has an extraordinary battery life – on a full charge, up to 8 hours and 52 minutes, to be exact!

6. Powerful: With 2nd Generation Intel Core processors, this Ultrabook delivers enviable speed and performance. The optional 2nd gen Intel Core i7 processors and Intel HD 3000 graphics can help you stay on top of your world.

However, let’s call a spade a spade. Sure, I love the XPS 13 for all the specs noted above. And, the ultrabook has logged many miles with me in the last two months: East Aurora, NY; New York City, NY; Niagara Falls, NY – are you seeing a pattern here? Apparently I love New York!

BUT – the single, most important reason I love the Dell XPS 13? Allow me to demonstrate. See those pretty handbags below? Yes, they’re all designer purses – terribly expensive, of course, and they happen to be some of the most sought after accessories for Fall 2012.

(Oh, Christian Louboutin, how dare you design both shoes and handbags that I lust after?)

The point is: Can you see a similarity between all the bags below? Look closely, I’ll give you a second.
Nothing comes to mind yet? Well, let’s pretend for a moment that I owned all of these handbags. (Shh! Don’t burst my bubble. A girl can dream!) I’d definitely be in luck – because my favourite feature of the Dell XPS 13 is its portability! Put your X-RAY goggles on, friends, and you’ll see what I mean:
See? An XPS 13 Ultrabook toted along in each purse, comfortably! Weighing it at only 2.99 lbs, trust me – you won’t even know it’s there.

And what’s good for the designer handbag is good for the school bag! Until September 6th, Dell has a sweet back to school offer – and what student doesn’t love saving a little money?

With Dell’s “Spend some, get some” deal, students who spend over $750 on select Dell PCs will receive an additional $50 off instantly; those who spend $1,000 will receive an additional $75 off; and finally, those who spend $1,250 or more receive $100 off. Both of these amazing deals are available through purchase on Dell.ca and by phone at 1-800-WWW-DELL. Proof of valid student enrollment at a Canadian high school, college or university is required. Please visit: www.dell.ca/mpp for further information and to participate in these deals.

So whether you’re thinking high fashion or high school, I love the XSP 13 for its lightweight portability. If you’ve been following my tweets, you’ll know that I just can’t stop raving about it:

It’s starting to look like I will need a new dell soon. This is good food for thought.

Thanks Julia. It’s honestly the perfect laptop for on-the-go. I take it on almost every trip I take, and rarely know it’s there.

Oh man, I was hoping there would be a giveaway attached to this post =P Oh well, it’s a great review anyway! This laptop looks awesome. I just got a new HP laptop in December, and it’s ALREADY so bogged down with all of my school stuff and my pictures/videos. I’m sure it won’t be long until I need another one, and I’ll definitely check out Dell, especially as I’ve never had one. I love all of these slim, super-light laptop designs that are now out!

I know! Wouldn’t that be awesome? Tell you what – let me see what I can do, it never hurts to ask, right? Good luck with school!

Nice! I travel frequently and this is what I’ve been looking for. Still getting used to typing on my Ipad its just not the same.

    Thanks Lena!

I’d love a new Dell for school – and those “laptop cases” are pretty nice too ;)

HA! Yes, I’d love to own all the laptop cases too :)

You are totally selling me on this Lena. The last time you blogged about it I showed it to hubby. I think we need to revisit our back to school budget cause the whole family could use this one!

      September 4, 2012 at 8:45 am

Indeed! My husband loves it because he can take it along to Starbucks when he needs some peace and quiet, and the kiddos watch movies in bed. It’s great!

I need a new laptop. I love my ACER Aspire ONE but the hubby is always trying to take it. So a 2nd is a must in our household.

      September 4, 2012 at 8:45 am

I’d say this is a great option for you Monica!

I wish my laptop would fit in my handbag so that I could be a least a bit more “fashionable” at school but nope, I must carry my backpack !

    • Lena

      September 4, 2012 at 8:46 am

That’s why I love the #XPS13 Jenny; I can tote it in almost every handbag I own, so I’m always connected without carrying a bulky laptop. Check it out!

Thanks for the review of the Dell ultrabook! I’ve been thinking about getting an ultrabook and shopping around!

Oh yes please to the handbags and the Dell. Are they really all yours. Deeply envious right now. Not enough handbags here.

LOL Paula, unfortunately no – this is simply an illustration of all the handbags the Dell XPS13 could fit into!

The dell is looking so much more attractive right now (like it had far to go). I love that in a machine. It would be so great to tote it around whenever I need to. Thanks again for the awesome review. This really helps.

      September 5, 2012 at 3:48 pm

Thanks so much for the feedback, Cindy! I think as women, we don’t want to feel that we have to tote around our handbag AND a separate laptop case. The XPS13 is the best of both worlds!

As always Lena, a smart, intuitive review that speaks to me. Thanks for sharing!

Did Dell give you that computer for free?

I got a Dell computer on Aug. 18. Less than THREE WEEKS later, MY BATTERY WAS BROKEN. ALREADY. It wouldn’t charge anymore. (Staples, with their stupid 14-day return policy, won’t take it back.)

And what’s the point of having a laptop if you have to be tethered to a plug-in the whole time?

Dells have horrible batteries. They are notorious for that. There was a lawsuit over it. They haven’t gotten any better!

    DON’T BUY DELL!!!!

Hi Ann – I’m so sorry to hear about your experience! I know all to well that sometimes you can get a lemon. However, as that would be a warranty issue, I’m sure Dell would be able to help you out? Please let me know if your problem has been resolved.

I love purses. So cute that the ultrabook can fit inside.
