Rarely do I get SO excited over a comeback.
For the last few years, I’ve watched platform pumps get higher, chunkier, and uglier. Much to my chagrin; models, actresses, celebrities and average women everywhere seemed to lap up the trend, taking their legs to new heights (5.25″ and higher, to be exact). While I dabbled in the style-du-jour only slightly – a pair of peep toe pumps here, a pair of platform wedges there – I inwardly cringed every time I clonked around in them. To me, platform pumps are the antithesis of elegance; a boorish style that very few women can pull off with refinement and grace.
(Have you ever seen Kate Middleton galloping around in sky-high platforms? No, neither have I. #restmycase)
And so I’ve been waiting patiently… very patiently… for the return of my all-time favourite look: Pointy Toe Pumps.
Oh, how I’ve missed you! Nothing elongates the leg with sophistication and style more than a perfectly sculpted 4″ pump. They suit every height, frame and age. They dress up jeans and effortlessly go from boardroom to bar. They lend a sexy silhouette to practically every outfit imaginable.
And, they’re making a comeback.
Don’t believe me? May I offer the following pictures as evidence:
Ladies, I am so looking forward to fall. Time to break out the hot little numbers I’ve stashed away for too long while weathering the platform phenomena. Mama needs to get her pointy toe on!
Lol — it’s funny that you posted this because I was just thinking about these platform shoes today. I don’t have a pair of the chunky monkeys, but I gotta say — I put some on today when I was trying on outfits at Club Monaco — and they make your legs look MILES LONG!!!! Admittedly, they are large and kind of clumsy looking — but holy moly — I’m now thinking of buying some (even though they’re going out of style) because they make you look so much taller and, therefore, slimmer. Given I have far from lost the baby weight I need all the help I can get before I go back to work on September 10th.
Janice! First, you are stunning and have nothing to worry about! Last time I saw you, you were slim and svelte! Second, I don’t see anything wrong with a little help from platforms – I’m just anti-chunky monkey when it comes to special occasion ensembles :) And, they’re not going out of style AT ALL! It’s just that pointy toes are coming back IN style – yay!
Not slim and svelte. I wish. Then my pants would fit and I wouldn’t need to go shopping (and end up trying on a pair of these platforms to begin with). Seriously — I’m 5 pounds over my old weight, which isn’t the end of the world I guess, but what is bad is that my shape is gone. I’ve got this huge “mummy tummy” that always sticks out so that I look 3 months preggo. My hips are wider, my waist and rib cage are wider, and my stomach sticks out. So the 100 suits or so that I own (not an exaggeration, unfortunately) do not fit. That is a HUGE amount of cash down the drain unless I can get back in shape, which I don’t see being very likely since a) I’ve only been to the gym twice, despite getting a membership last month and b) because I don’t know how to count calories or diet, and am too lazy to learn. I’m quite distraught, to be honest. I know it’s my own fault, since I’m not exercising, but I naively assumed I’d lose all the weight like I did after Charlotte. Not so, this time around. And when I return to work next week, I know I’m going to hear about it. :(
Aw, tell them to stuff it! You’re gorgeous – I’m sure once you get back into the swing of things everything will even out :) Good luck with your return to work!
Ummm, I didn’t even know pointy toe pumps went out of style…oops. Guess I’ve been a fashion faux-pas for the past few years.
Hahaha not at all! Well… maybe a little :) The scene has just been so saturated with clunky platforms for the last 2-3 years, it’s good to see more refined styles making a comeback.
You and me both!
I never understood the platform high heel as pictured above. Hookers and strippers wear them.
I began to feel bad for them because the can’t distinguish themselves from the general public :/
Maybe with the pointed toe they can claim their style back, bahahahaha!
BAHAHA peeing my pants laughing over your comment! My husband refers to them as drag-queen must haves :)
LMAO this is the funniest comment ever! I had to chime in because I once tried on a pair of shoes like this at Aldo and my boyfriend was mortified. He said “I’ve never met a guy who saw a chick in those shoes and thought: I want to marry that tall chick in hooker shoes – so take them off!!” LOL!!!! But he still hasn’t proposed, maybe he will if I wear pointy toes?
That is so something my husband would say – LOL!
LOVE the pointy toe pump!…as long as theirs not too much toe cleavage! LOL!!! ;-P
haha I agree!
Ew… toe cleavage. Duly noted, will make sure all my shoes cover up my toes modestly, ha ha ha!
I totally agree!!! It’s about time!
finally, I never understood the whole platform shoe, I never found it very attractive
Victoria and Stacey – happy to see I’m not alone in my thinking!
Well according to what I see from Stacy and Clinton on What Not to Wear, I think you could probably wear them all the time. I don’t think they ever go out of style, for the reasons you like them. They are awesome. If only my own feet didn’t hurt so much in them. :-(
Those platform things are dumb. In my opinion.
I agree – the pointy toe pump is a classic look, but I’m too persuaded by Hollywood types and pressure from ALDO shoes to wear anything but the current trend (hangs head in shame).
Love it! I think the platforms look so clunky. Pointy toes & peplum all the way! (the 3 red carpet looks are all rockin peplum too) ;)
KAT! You are a woman after my own heart – I’ve drafted a post on the peplum phenomena and will be publishing it soon!
The sexy pump is back. YESSSS! I too am a huge fan of the pointed stiletto. Can anything be more classy? For me it’s all about the shoes. I too was not a fan of the “chunky monkey”. I’m glad to see I’m not alone. Leave it to Victoria to strut her stuff (in fabulous shoes) while on the roof of a car.
Oh I know! She is so divine, I almost don’t mind that she needs to eat a hamburger. LOVE that photo and pose in pointy toes :)
I agree with you partly – I try not to discriminate against any shoe – chunky or pointed, I love them all the same ;-)
As a gal with a wide foot, I find I have a hard time fitting into the pointed toe shoes – so I do tend to favor other types, but I still can appreciate a gorgeous shoe!
Oh we NEVER discriminate, LOL! We just show strong preferences :)
I absolutely love pointy toed heels. I have never worn the platform heels. Never will. I am so excited.
Me too – going shoe shopping in New York next Wednesday!
Love my ‘chunky monkeys’! I cant wear the tapered toes, skinny heels shoes – pinch my toes and not enough stability for me. Big toe boxes and stable heels all the way or I dont wear them. But I love Doc Martens and platform boots too :D
Well, I always say you have to wear what works for you! Good news – chunky monkeys are here to stay for the season… they’re just making a little room for the pointy toes to share the spotlight :)
I couldn’t agree more. Platforms have never been my thing and I refuse to follow that trend. Ok, some people can pull off a small one but some just can’t (Jessica Simpson towering in them pregnant come to mind). I also love, love, love a good pointy toed pump. Nine West makes great, affordable ones that I have in about 5 different colors.
I’m so glad you’re on board with me style-wise, Christine! I can’t seem to get the images of Jessica Simpson towering in them out of my mind. Nightmare!
I’ve got a few pairs of Nine West pointy toes myself ;)
Wow these shoes are beautifully feminine. Hmm would love to add all these to my bucket list.
I completely agree with you, Lena.
I absolutely love pointed-toe pumps, and I have never stopped wearing them.
Being 5′-8″ already, I have yet to follow the platform pumps trend.. I would clunk around, towering over everyone, and that does not make me feel graceful or feminine whatsoever.
So glad to hear the pointed-toe is making a return… I’ll never stop loving them! :)
Pointy toes are pretty to look at, but not so comfortable. I really like the chunky shoes. But not the ugly ones.
I think a lot of the platforms are ridiculous because they’re so high you could break your ankle or worse but to me they don’t look as nice but the pointed toe in my opinion has never been out of fashion just maybe not worn as much.
