As a part-time beauty and fashion #fangirl, I’m constantly trying to stay on top of trends and must-haves. In fact, I spend a large portion of my time meticulously documenting all the designer clothes and makeup I want to buy… and then, spend even more time finding a perfectly affordable dupe (hello, H&M!).
However, ONE thing that drives me absolutely batty when reading trend reports? The shameful contradictions.
“This fall! Prints are fabulous! Or… try solid colours!”
“You’ll want to have a sheer pink, bright coral, deep berry or earthy nude on your lips this season.”
“Think sky high hair or a simple side-parted low ponytail.”
Mmmkay. How is it a “trend” if you’ve just given every woman an “out”? As in, I can’t do berry lips but I can do sheer pink, so I’ll be on trend! Gah!
And so when it comes to nail colour, I’m confused. Multiple sources have quoted the “it” colour to be either Stormy Gray, Gothic Berry, Metallic Green, Warm Cocoa or Bright Teal – or a combination of the hues. Hence, rather than splurging on every “trend” under the sun, I decided to weed out the common denominator: neutral shades of cappuccino, hot chocolate and iced coffee. The earthy staples appear on multiple trendwatcher lists for nail fashion – usually at the top. Therefore, I’m calling coffee-coloured hues THE must-have nail colour for Fall 2012.
I love these colours! They go well with darker skin, and pale skin like mine. They are bringing me back in time to our Goetz days in the 90’s…remember Revlon Cocoa Bean?? Very pretty, a trend that I’ll actually follow!
I don’t remember Cocoa Bean but I remember Toast of New York!
I absolutely do! And yes, I love trends that I can commit to without feeling awkward :)
I love those shades. They’re timeless, classic, and CLASSY! Once again, lady…you called it!
Shauna, I totally remember Revlon’s Cocoa Bean! That was my fave shade back in the day! LOL!
I’m all for timeless and classic :)
Awesome colours, especially for Fall… love the China Glaze and Butter London!
I am seriously jonesing after that Butter London shade :)
China Glaze & Butter look fabulous ~loveee earthy shades
You and Nicole W. have similarly great taste!
Thank you for this post, Lena! I have a basket full of polish that I haven’t been using because I grew tired of the ‘reds’. I love these shades! I am a big fan of OPI and I really like the ‘Java Mauve’. My birthday is next week and I have been thinking of treating myself to a ‘spa day’. I hope this colour will be available.
YW! And happy birthday for next week! You definitely deserve a spa day – and I hope you rock one of these awesome neutrals! xo
Definitely love coffee shop neutrals. I have a whole stash that I hope haven’t dried out, because it is probably the first time in years that I can follow the nail trend.
Hahaha I love when trends come naturally too :)
Love all these colors – ALL!
Fall trends are always my favorite!!
:)
Me too! I am definitely digging so many of these neutrals – a nice change from the bright orange I am currently sporting on my nails!
I love these colours but they make my hands look old (nothing to do with the fact that my hands ARE old). I like one like these coffee colours with a tiny hint of burgundy/raspberry, I’m ready for fall!
I can totally appreciate that, Amy… I feel the same way about plum hues; I feel like they age me too. Enjoy this trend!
I lOVE these shades…especially the Julep “Olivia”…
Me too! One of my faves :)
The L’Oreal one looks great – and it’s affordable for me too!
BONUS! Love it!
I didn’t know Dior had polish, beautiful collection
Oooh.. now that you know, it’ll be hard to resist, I promise!
I am wearing Gym Dandy right now ! Its perfect for the weather here right now!
AMAZING! You are right on trend girl!
Those colours are gorgeous! I would wear them all!
Very pretty ‘shades of brown’. My nail polish inventory needs updating so I’ll have to pick up some of these hues. Not only do these colours looks lovely, they sound good enough to eat (BONUS)!
I’m usually not a big fan of brown shades because I’m super pale and cool toned but I really like that Essie polish!
