SHOP.CA Picks of the Week!

July 16, 2012 By Lena

My picks are *slightly* late this week as I was fighting a nasty migraine on/off for five days. Yes, FIVE days! Longest headache ever… and, it derailed me from my shopping, so that’s unacceptable!

Anyhoo… without further ado, here’s what caught my eye on SHOP.CA this week:

OASIS FIREPLACE

“Indoors or outdoors, on a table, floor or ground, around a pool, patio or in a living room you can place the beautiful and and stylishly designed Oasis Fireplace from Anywhere Fireplace. It will add the ambiance and create a focal point and the ambiance that dancing flames the fire creates. By using a Gel fuel canister that is placed into the center cup, you just have to light is with a long lighter or match stick and you now have a personal fireplace. Using the proper gel fuel cans designed for fireplaces, it is safe to use indoors or out, where ever you may want to create ambiance. It comes with white decorative river stones, but choose to decorate it with colorful fireglass, sea shells, or anything else to make it a perfect piece for the perfect setting.”

Totally digging this little fire pit, especially since it can fit on a small deck. I am picturing: the kids in bed, a few girlfriends, wine, my backyard – and the Oasis fireplace. Paints a nice picture, no? And at $139.99 – an affordable luxury. This is definitely at the top of my “investigate further” list.

LEO WEDGE by ROSEGOLD

“These canvas espadrille wedges feature an elastic inset at the sling-back strap and a buckled closure at the wraparound ankle strap. Leather piping. Braided raffia wedge and platform. Padded canvas footbed and leather sole.”

I’ve been gently stalking the SHOP.CA shoe section in anticipation of additional designers and styles – because if there’s one thing I’ll gladly spend my hard-earned money on, it’s shoes. To tell the truth, these wedges weren’t on my radar until I was tagged in the following photo:

Sold! I’m a huge fan of black/brown combo, because like Rochelle said, it goes with everything. Plus, while they do have a generous platform, they’re a welcome break from the 4.5″+ heels that I’ve been teetering on for the last few months. Super sexy sandals are on their way!

THE GIVING TREE

“Once there was a tree . . . and she loved a little boy.” So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein. Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk . . . and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave. This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation. Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages.

I’ve been reading my favourite childhood book to Ryder for years now, and Reid had his inaugural bedtime reading last night :) LOVE this book for its tenderness, interpretation of the gift of giving, and a serene acceptance of another’s capacity to love in return.

AROMACHOLOGY CUSTOM CANDLE COLLECTION

“Aromachology Custom Candle Collection boasts 9 candles, equipped with a glass holder inside that allows each parfumeur to burn up to any three candles at once to create their own blended room fragrance. The nine candles – Peaceful, Comforting, Sexy, Sensual, Confident, Creative, Seductive, Optimistic, Inspiring and Empowering, are derived from notes meant to inspire the word itself. Consumers are given the ability to pick and choose which notes to burn based on the legend inside the box, describing the overall essence each candle evokes. Customize your space by creating a unique and empowering scent.”

This is by far my splurge pick for the week – at $40.00, it’s much more than I’d spend on candles, but no one can deny the quality of Aromachology and its fragrances. For the hostess who has everything, this also makes a lovely housewarming or thank you gift.

The Oasis fireplace is cool. I’ll also have to read The Giving Tree but…

A migraine that has lasted for five days and derailed you from shopping?! Although it is unacceptable, I am more concerned. Hope you’ve seen a doctor to make sure it’s nothing
serious. In the meantime, wish you serenity now and your migraine gone.

Next time you come over, we’ll read The Giving Tree to the boys :)

Yes, I know. I think I’m getting better – will see a doctor if it happens again. Thanks so much for your concern! Serenity Now! xo

That looks interesting. No need to worry about a fire or stinking up the back yard with gasoline and a bon fire!

HA! I am so on board with that thinking! I loathe bon fires, so this is definitely a great alternative :)

I love those shoes but I know I’d fall lol! The fireplace would be really nice to have for our backyard.

Okay, seriously, this is like the third pair of shoes I’ve seen and want to buy. Also, The Giving Tree rocks.

Ah, don’t you just adore The Giving Tree? Getting ready to read it to Ryder tonight :)

Is it weird if I put that fireplace in my bedroom? lol I’ve always wanted fireplace in my room

    • Lena

      July 22, 2012 at 7:26 pm

It’s not weird at all! BUT, I think this is more of an outdoors thing – might want to stick to the indoor fireplaces you find at Costco for this one ;)
