I Want YOU to #LoveLentils Too! #Giveaway

June 6, 2012 By Lena

Note: The following giveaway is open to Canadians only.

So, the awesome “Love Your Lentils” contest for a chance to spend a day with Chef Michael Smith is now over, and chances are very likely that someone else will be dining alongside one of my favourite chefs :(

(I’m not bitter. Well, maybe just a little.)

The winner will be announced next Wednesday, June 13th – so if you took the time to vote, the best of luck to you!

In the meantime, I want to talk about the awesomeness that is Chef Michael Smith. Did you know that Michael, Canada’s best-known chef and winner of the James Beard Award for Cooking Show Excellence, was actually born in New York? Insane! In addition to his fresh, contemporary approach to cooking, I’ve always associated Chef Smith with PEI due to his intense focus on regionalism and the foods of the province.

In fact, his very first cookbook – Open Kitchen, Michael Smith invites you to spend the day with him in his kitchen at The Inn at Bay Fortune in PEI to learn all of his cooking secrets. So it’s no surprise that across the nation, we Canucks have embraced him as a master of Canadian cookery – and revel in his recipes, tips and techniques.

I recently received Chef Smith’s latest cookbook to enjoy – Chef Michael Smith’s Kitchen: 100 of My Favourite Easy Recipes.

“Chef Michael Smith’s Kitchen is a fabulous new collection of Michael’s all-time favourite recipes that he regularly cooks at home. Simple, easy to make and packed with tips, all you have to do is follow the instructions and you will be making the best version of the recipe that Chef Michael Smith creates consistently in his own kitchen.”

HELLO! This cookbook totally rocks. In addition to drool-worth dishes such as Oatmeal Crusted French Toast, Beer-Braised Beef Short Ribs and Sausage Sage Bread Pudding, Chef Smith also pays homage to – you guessed it – LENTILS!

Above: (1) Bacon Lentil Salad with Arugula and Tarragon Mustard Dressing; (2) Lentil Stew with 40 Garlic Cloves

I haven’t had a chance to make any of the dishes yet, but I kid you not when I say that my husband, my mother and I all fought over looking through the cookbook when it first arrived – and we’ve all marked off our “must-try” recipes, including the Lentil Stew with 40 Garlic Cloves.

WIN IT!!!

I have TWO (2) copies of Chef Michael Smith’s Kitchen (value $32.00 each) to give away to two lucky readers! To enter, simply fill the form below with your qualifying entries. Good luck every one!

Chief Michael Smith is one of Canada’s great treasures! I love every recipe he creates. Due to dietary (blood sugar) issues, pulses and legumes are in my diet EVERY day so I sincerely appreciate his creative recipes using these valuable sources of complex carbs and fiber. What I love the most about Chief Smith’s recipes is that they’re meant for the real world, using good quality ingredients.
