GTA: Urban Barn Clearance Outlet Haul

March 5, 2012 By Lena

If you live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) you’re in luck – serious style can be yours at seriously amazing prices. Yes, I’m writing about Urban Barn again, but I love the stuff, k?

Last week, I popped into the Urban Barn clearance outlet in Scarborough (430 Progress Avenue). We don’t usually venture out east, but we had about a million errands to run that spanned the entire city, so decided to pop in for a quick look.

Two words: SHOPPING MECCA.

The clearance outlet is advertised as “Massive Savings… Small Imperfections” – but in addition to slightly damaged merchandise, you can also grab absolutely perfect stock that has been moved from their regular stores for final clearance at the outlet.

At the store, we did see a few drool-worthy pieces that had a small nick or two, but I just couldn’t live with the imperfections :(  Alas, I’m the type of person who would rather spend full price and then go over the merchandise with a fine-toothed comb to make sure it’s flawless (yes, I’m one of THOSE customers).

Anyhoo, I’m happy to say that I scored a few items at ridiculously low prices. First, while I wasn’t necessarily looking for a new duvet set, I couldn’t resist this simple, modern pattern called “LAUREN”.

REGULAR PRICE: $190 for King Set
AFTER MARKDOWNS: $27.99
SAVINGS: 85%

Okay, where in the world can you grab a KING duvet set for under $30? This one was a no-brainer. Love the simplicity and clean lines – not to mention the quality of the cotton. I still can’t get over the amazing price. BTW, it took me a LONG time to steam out all of the wrinkles, and I gave up half way. Apologies for the less than “magazine-ready” photos.

Next, I stumbled upon this wine rack which I thought was über cool – and incredibly flexible to blend in with the decor of multiple rooms within our home. “Turns wine storage into a design statement while you display up to seven (7) bottles of your favorite vintage. Engineered wood with a modern matte finish is accented with brushed stainless steel bolts. 16″ x 18″ x 6 1/4”.

I also couldn’t resist the price tag –

REGULAR PRICE: $69.00
AFTER MARKDOWNS: $11.89
SAVINGS: 83%

Finally, while my #ProjectSittingRoom is still one of my favourite renos to date, it was just missing something. I knew what it was, of course – complementary cushions for the chairs. But alas, it wasn’t in the budget to drop $60+ on a couple of throw pillows, so I figured sooner or later I would stumble upon a deal.

I found that deal – and the PERFECT cushions – at the Urban Barn Clearance Outlet! Check out these puppies – aren’t they just a dreamy match? With a combination of red, white, black and silver, they incorporate every colour in the room. And they were a steal!

REGULAR PRICE: $29.00 per cushion
AFTER MARKDOWNS: $13.99 per cushion
SAVINGS: 52%

Total Price Before Savings: $317.00
Total Cost After Savings:  $67.86 + tax
Average Savings: 79%

AY CARUMBA! Now THAT’s what I call a clearance outlet. And in case you were wondering, all of the items were in perfect condition :)

If you’re in the TO area, do take a moment to pop by! It was only our third visit to the clearance outlet, but was by far the most successful!

Hey Lena, you picked up some real good stuff at the Urban Barn outlet. I can’t believe how little you paid for such quality stuff and the cushions have added so much class to your already awesome living room. Will definitely visit the store soon. Thanks!

Oh my. I could hardly look at the post as I was beyond envious as the amazing (and gorgeous!!) purchases you made. If only they would do a great clearance in my neck of the wood!

    • Lena

      March 9, 2012 at 6:56 am

Oh Soozle, you make me LOL. I’m sure more outlet stores will pop up in other places eventually, but I really do vote for Urban Barn to have online shopping – especially for the smaller items! They’re a steal and everyone should have access to them!

aw, you were in my neck of the woods! i check out the UB clearance outlet when i can but most of the furniture has noticeable dents. i’m with you! it’s not worth the savings. great duvet though! i’m too lazy to iron sheets tho. lol!

    • Lena

      March 9, 2012 at 6:57 am

Hahaha I don’t think I’ll ever do a bed photo again – such a hassle to get the duvet to behave! And now that I know it’s your neck of the woods, we’ll have to plan a coffee/ Urban Barn shopping date!

    Lena,

Just wondering about your white leather chairs. These are exactly what I am looking for. Have checked with urban barn but they only carry this style in brown leather out here in alberta and we need white. Love all your other finds as well. Room looks hip.

    • Lena

      March 30, 2012 at 6:52 am

      Hi Lauri!

Thanks so much for your kind feedback! The chairs were actually purchased from The Bay five years ago; surprisingly, last year while shopping, I noticed that they still carried the same style (guess it must be one of their classic styles or best-sellers). I can’t be certain if they still have them today but do pop by and have a look! I’ll try to see if there’s a style number I can quote to make it easier for you.
