Conventional wisdom tells me that my readers must read – at the very least – the first few lines of any blog post. With that in mind, I’ll get straight to the point:
If you live in the Greater Toronto Area and are looking for a nutritious, delicious and convenient meal program, you simply MUST try Personal Gourmet by Rose Reisman.
Still reading? Here’s the scoop. I’ve tried meal delivery plans before, and have been very pleased with the results. The food was yummy and I couldn’t beat the convenience. Not so convenient: the lack of flexibility. Because some nights, I wanted to cook my own healthy, low fat meal – but since the meal was already there, I’d be throwing away food (and money) if I opted for a home-cooked option. And so I plugged on, limited to what arrived on my doorstep every morning.
That’s why Personal Gourmet by Rose Reisman is different, and SO awesome. In addition to a a fresh food delivery service, she also offers a frozen gourmet option. And if you just thought, “Ew! Frozen? Why would I have frozen meals delivered?” – read on, friends, because this is definitely NOT conventional freezer food.
But first, who’s Rose Reisman?
“Rose Reisman is Canada’s go-to nutrition and wellness expert. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Health at York University, a Registered Nutritionist, and author of 17 best-selling books on nutrition and healthy cooking. She is a regular guest expert on Breakfast Television, Cityline, Canada AM, 680 News and the National Post. Reisman is also the executive director of Glow Fresh Grill and owner of Rose Reisman Catering and Personal Gourmet.”
And now, the lowdown on the program:
Personal Gourmet Frozen caters to consumers looking for delicious and healthy prepared meals, without the commitment of having to consume the food immediately. So if I decide to nosh on White Chicken Chili for lunch, I can – but I can also keep it in the fridge for up to two days, or in the freezer for as long as needed. (Or, as my husband has pointed out on numerous occasions: give the meal to him.) Thanks to the good folks at Personal Gourmet Frozen, I was offered the opportunity to test drive the program for two weeks. And after 10 days, I can honestly say that it was love at first sight (and taste).
Why I LOVE it:
NUTRITION: All ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible and most entrees use fewer than 10 ingredients. Weight Loss plans are made-to-order based on the gender, height, weight and activity level of the consumer, and your meals will be both calorie- and portion-controlled without giving up flavour. Healthy Living options include breakfast, lunch or dinner dishes, as well as group dinners, kid’s meals or snacks, or a combination of any or all of the meals.
CONVENIENCE: Frozen meals and snacks are delivered in vacuum-sealed packaging to retain maximum freshness. Now if you think frozen food includes flimsy cardboard boxes, ice crystals and flavourless mystery meat, think again. The food is frozen within moments of being cooked, and is on your doorstep within days. So when the meals arrive, they’re fresh, colourful and have all the nutrients/flavour you’d expect from a fresh, just-made meal.
TASTE: SO, so yummy. I am incredibly blown away by just how homemade the meals taste; the spices, flavours and textures are all comparable to a meal I’d make myself, with the added benefit of being calorie- and portion-controlled, and cooked for me, of course! Can’t beat that!
Last night, I enjoyed Grilled Shrimp with Asiago Cheese over a Barley Pilaf with Pesto. #hellyeah
Frozen food? How about Fabulous, Flavourful and Filling Food that just happens to be frozen.
The cost of meals can ring in at as little as $20 per day. Personal Gourmet Frozen delivers across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and also offers Purolator Express Delivery outside of the GTA to the rest of Ontario.
I’ll be back with more pictures and final thoughts about the program next week! In the meantime, visit Personal Gourmet by Rose Reisman for more information.
$20 a day isn’t bad at all – and it looks delicious! Also, love that they use little ingredients!
Gah, I wish I was in the GTA!
I wish you were in the GTA, too!
The small list of ingredients was also a huge selling point for me!
I will have to check this out. Really like that theres a frozen option. Was the sandwich frozen too?
Yes, the sandwich was frozen, but since the bread wasn’t toasted, it thawed beautifully and tasted soft and fresh!
Wow! Now this is a service a super busy Mama could get behind! Off to check out her site:)
Exactly! Wonderful if you usually buy your lunch too!
Oh my! That does look scrumptious! Really like the idea of a meal with more flexiblity, checking it out!
Let me know what you think!
I remember watching her on Breakfast Television and using a couple of her recipes, including one for a soup with charred corn and wild rice. It was so good! Though I’d much rather have someone prepare my dinner for me. This sounds like an interesting program.
I believe the recipe was similar to this one but I don’t remember they’re being pepper in it: http://www.artoflivingwell.ca/blog/weight-loss-recipe-of-the-week-charred-corn-wild-rice-and-roasted-pepper-soup/
Thanks so much for posting! Looks delish, I will definitely have to give this one a try.
Oh, and if you’ve never been to Glow Fresh Grill, Lena… I’m taking you there one of these days. The food there is fantastic!
It’s a DATE Diana! I’ve never been, but I hear I’m missing out!
