Way Back Play Back Circa 1982

January 9, 2012 By Lena

Yes, I know we just welcomed 2012. And everything’s great.

But if I had my way, I’d take the first time machine back 30 years to 1982, when the music was actually good. Lady Gaga? Puh-lease. Time to crank up The Go-Gos.

Now this I can fist pump to.

Also from 1982?

Physical, Olivia Newton-John
Eye of the Tiger, Survivor
I Love Rock N Roll, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
Jack & Diane, John Cougar
Don’t You Want Me, The Human League
Tainted Love, Soft Cell
Let’s Groove, Earth, Wind and Fire
Don’t Stop Believin’, Journey

Hmm… let’s see what’s on an “All Hits” pop radio station at the moment…

BodyBounce, Kardinal Offishall feat. Akon

Oh. My, Barf.

What are some of your favourite hits from the 80’s? (Oh I know, there are too many to list. Okay, one of your faves?)

    Oh my…is it a sin??

I’m a sucker for anything by Journey – sad eh?

Not sad at all! I love me some Journey!

Those were good and happier times…now I sound like someone’s grandparents. ;)

Some of my favourite way back play backs were from ABC, PM Dawn, Breathe and
more obscure ones like Fiction Factory and Industry.

Btw, did you like the Duff sisters remake of Our Lips Are Sealed…

I know, it’s totally shameful that I would know every song on MuchMusic’s Backtrax (if they still played music instead of silly reality programs). Love Breathe. And yes, I quite enjoyed the remake ;)

I was a huge fan of Wham! in the 80’s. Was crushed when they broke up.

Do I ever love the 80’s!! I grew up idolizing my big sis, and love all of the music she listened to – The Cure, The Cult, The Smiths, Depeche Mode. I often cook to 80’s tunes playing in my kitchen. And the best thing to come out of the 80’s has got to be Madonna! Thx for this ‘way back play back’ :)

Ah yes! The material girl! I begged my mom to buy me a scrunchie so I could tease and crimp my hair and tie it back a la Madonna!

I must admit that I’m much more a fan of early 90s music than music from the 80s. I guess it’s because those were my teenage years, when I listened to a lot of music. I was just a kid in the 80s. I enjoy some Red, Red Wine or most things by Chicago and Billy Joel. Sure, they go back into the 80s too, but the 90s stuff was the best.

I concur; 90’s stuff was pretty fabulous too. Will have to revisit that decade soon!

in 2011 i was fortunate enough to ‘re-live’ my youth :)

in January, Platinum Blonde, Blue Peter, The Spoons and Maestro Fresh Wes at the 80s Party for the Juno Awards 40th anniversary in Toronto and was fotunate to meet Wes Williams backstage at the Horseshoe Tavern.

then in the spring, saw 2 very reasonably priced intimate concerts at The Phonenix concert theatre on different dates: OMD in March and Duran Duran in April.

missed the Heart/Def Leppard and Journey/Night Ranger nights at the Ampitheatre but from the reviews i didn’t miss much lol

The music is STILL very good, it’s the uptempo modern gatekeepers of radio / video who aren’t. I’ve been posting new music song lists for the past four years. The files can be readily searched for in most cases.
If anyone gives a few of these music acts a try: guaranteed enjoyment.

I’ll have to check out your song lists – thanks for the tip!

It seems you denied my comment (around the Noon hour) re: 100s of ignored new music by song title that feels as good, relaxed, and grooving, as the old 80s music. And its not my first comment to be turned down.
I pointed out last Fall, at my site, how Ford Canada was giving 7 free week+ car rentals, Econo to Luxury class, during the past 4 summers plus multiple ticket invites of 3rd row Leafs tickets (including this Season’s Opener vs. Mtl) – to the same individual male blogger in Toronto. When I visited your site, you were featuring a prominent Ford Advertisement image and gushing over a trip to a Women’s Conference – and not much else from Ford Canada.
I also stated an overall national blog award shouldn’t go to any blog leaning towards product endorsement – by using a lighthearted soundalike entry title. You may later agreed with this separately by your own refusal to particpate in the CBAs 2011.
I think you should have accepted my earlier comment here today. But it is your website, your call.
    Best wishes and regards, CQ.

CQ, I did not deny your earlier comment – apologies if it seemed that way. I just have a rigid spam filter and most comments with a link – such as your “guaranteed enjoyment” link – go straight to my spam folder. However, I was able to view your second comment and retrieve your first.

Thanks for stopping by, and for your feedback.
