Danier: Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

January 18, 2012 By Lena

A few months ago, much to my chagrin, I found myself in Danier.

Now don’t get me wrong; it’s not that I dislike the store or merchandise, or frankly, have somewhere else I’d rather shop. The problem – ergo, the basis of my chagrin – lies in the fact that when I do visit Danier, I tend to want a lot of stuff.

Jackets.
Accessories.
Blazers.
Handbags.
Skirts.
Gloves.

Oh my!

On this particular visit, I found myself staring straight ahead in a concerted effort to avoid eye contact with a certain to-die-for leather jacket. Must.not.try.it.on.

Unfortunately, I ended up with an eyeful of the most gorgeous winter-lined coat I had ever laid eyes on.

“With its statement double fox fur collar (!!) and smocked detailing, this lightweight techno fabric coat screams ‘gotta-have-it’. Winter lining insulation, a hidden zippered placket and zippered pockets are practical touches. Wear it over a soft jersey maxi skirt or slim leggings depending on your mood.”

Against my better judgement, I tried it on. And it was love at first sight.

Was it the smocked detailing I fell in love with? The slim, tapered fit? Or was it the very fetching fox fur collar? (Don’t tell PETA. I swear, swear this is the only time I would consider wearing fur. I swear.) Regardless, I felt like a million bucks in it. I HAD to have it!

Of course, priced at $699, I had to put it back. After calculating that the coat would actually cost closer to $800 ($791 with tax), I just knew that there was no room in the budget for a garment at that price tag.

However, knowing that Danier is VERY good at placing items on sale, I waited.

Tick tock tick tock.

Then, just before Christmas, the coat was reduced to $399! Now ~$400 was a slightly easier pill to swallow than $800, but I was still firmly on the fence. Did I really need to spend $400? Why am I such a cheapo? Why can’t I just splurge once in a while? Why do I always ask myself questions I already know the answer to?

Alas, my conservative side took over and I didn’t jump at the opportunity to save. Still, I lusted after the coat, and on Boxing Day, I was at my neighbourhood Danier early in the morning. 8:00am sharp, actually.

The price: $399. FML.

And so just when I thought I’d have to give up my dream of the most fantabulous winter coat ever, as I was scrolling through tweets today, I came across this one from @ShopCatch, my guru of mobile deals:

A light bulb went on. If Danier was discounting men’s outerwear, perhaps my illustrious coat would be on sale too?

SQUEE! It is! Down to just $249, this I can afford – no rationale required. I placed a call to my nearest Danier and they’re having my size transferred in to their location. It’s mine! It’s mine!

Is there a song called “Good Things Come to Those Who Wait”? Cause I’ve been singing that line all day!

Be sure to visit Danier for more amazing sales. And don’t go anywhere without ShopCatch!

Yay – I’m so glad it finally went down so much! And just in time too – it’s so cold right now!

I’m terrible at waiting for sales – I always get anxious that it’ll be sold out in my size :-P

YAY! I think I was moaning about the coat to you back in November… finally!

See, I used to be anxious about missing out on sizes too, until I realized that virtually every store will transfer your size in. So they’re grabbing one from their Toronto location and I’m laughing! SQUEE!

Gratz Lena. I remember you drooling about this particular coat in one of your posts. I looked a few times to see if it was on sale for you but it sounds like Shopcatch has your back. Think I’m going to follow them. =)

Oh Lara, that is so sweet that you checked it out for me!! I had been watching it after Christmas but pretty much gave up on it, reasoning that $399 was likely as low as it would go. So happy I saw that tweet today!

      You should definitely follow them!

That is so awesome. I love happy endings!

I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to shopcatch. I used their app for a lot of my boxing day shopping and saved tons. And, I really like that they post deals on twitter and facebook so you never miss anything (as seen with your Danier deal I guess!) I’m actually addicted to checking the app wherever I go because I never want to miss out on a deal!

    So thank you!

I love ShopCatch! And Danier! What a winning combo!

That coat is gorgeous Lena. I would never pay $700 for a non-leather jacket but I guess the fur must cost a pretty penny. $249 is a steal!

To tell the truth I’m a little nervous about the whole fur thing but it’s so luxurious. Apologies to the little fox!
