WOW Your Way Through the Holidays with PC

December 10, 2011 By Lena

I suppose I could really expedite this post by saying “Eat This”. Perhaps… “It’s Scrumptious and Sinfully Good”.

Or, “It’s Made by President’s Choice”. Yes, I think that would convey the message quite effectively.

It’s pretty obvious that I don’t have to sell you on the fact that I LOVE PRESIDENT’S CHOICE. Anyone who’s ever read my reviews on PC products will attest that I may even be obsessed…

Of course, as soon as I hear the words “Holiday Insider’s Report”, I generally break out the stretchy pants.

My good friends at President’s Choice normally treat me to a sampling of their holiday goodies, and this year was no different. (Thank God. I mean really, If I’m ever taken off their press list I’d have seriously problems. For real. Does PC make anti-depressants?)

Anyhoo, always the innovator, PC kicked things up a notch this season and sent over a mini Christmas pantry full of holiday treats –

It appears that I will be wearing yoga pants all month long.

There is just so much deliciousness I don’t know where to begin. So I’ll just break down a list of my favourites:

PC Big Box Chocolate & Toffee Collection: A dupe of the famed Quality Street, the chocolates are richer, the toffees are sweeter, and the creams are more decadent. Did I mention they’re also less expensive than their counterpart? Forget Quality Street – I’ll be motoring down PC Avenue this Christmas.

PC Candy Cane “Eat the Middle First” Cookies: Although I’m not a huge fan of cream-filled cookies, my boys didn’t just eat the middle first – they ate the whole box first. Made with crunchy pieces of real candy cane, the delightful minty twist was just enough to set the holiday mood.

PC Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookies: Shortbread-style cookie, topped with creamy peanut butter filling and coated in milk chocolate with a sprinkling of crunchy dry-roasted peanut pieces. Do I really need to say more?

PC Mini Biscotti Assortment: Perfect for afternoon tea or coffee, I polished off the white chocolate cranberry cookies in just three days. They are THAT good. Not too sweet and the perfect biscotti texture (80:20 ratio of crispy to chewy) these were a hit with the adults in our family.

PC Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels with White Frosting: I wasn’t sure exactly how I’d feel about the peanut butter/white frosting combo, but these little bites were surprisingly yummy. The delightfully crunchy pretzels filled with salted peanut butter, and are just the right size to pop in your mouth. The frosting melts easily and can get a little messy, so I recommend 20 minutes in the fridge before serving to guests.

PC Loads of Jalapeño Popper Flavour Rippled Potato Chips: With jalapeño pepper and cheddar cheese seasoning, these delicious rippled chips are loaded with flavour and pack a mighty tasty (and spicy!) crunch. Heed the scorching 5-pepper warning featured on the bag; you won’t want to feed this one to the kiddies or pets.

Let’s be honest; you really can’t go wrong with President’s Choice over the holidays. Whether it’s friends stopping by for drinks or a family full of cookie fanatics, PC has you covered for all your seasonal entertaining.

PC really is the best! I count on the brand for a variety of things, and every holiday season I look forward to the Holiday Insider while my waistline dreads it. Most exciting product for me this year is boxed Red Velvet cake mix, at first I was skeptical but it is really good and I don’t need to keep buttermilk on hand for my favorite cake anymore.

It is very awesome. We received the pantry a few weeks ago so we’ve done much damage to the contents already :)

I’m a huge fan of pc products too. I especially love their BBQ crinkle cut chips – they are dangerous to have in the house…I can do serious damage to a family size bag all by myself. I’ve also bought 6 boxes of their gingerbread cookie mix this year – super easy to make (just add butter & water)…they’ve made me very popular with my kids’ friends lol. Like you, I also think a lot of their products are even yummier than the branded ones.

How cute is their pantry packaging! Adorable…the kids could use it to store their Teddy’s clothes lol.

Girl, don’t even get me started on the BBQ crinkle cut chips. They are simply delish! And yes, they boys are having a lot of fun playing with their new pantry… and staying out of mine, which is a bonus!

PC is the best thing to happen to food ever. I love their sauces, especially the Piri Piri one you recommended years ago. It’s still my go to sauce for oven baked chicken.

Oooh, forgot about my beloved Piri Piri, thanks for the reminder ;)

I tried the PC red velevet cake mix based on a suggestion from my cousin who makes the best red velvet cake in the world, yet she still told me to try it out as a shortcut. So good!

      December 11, 2011 at 1:32 pm

I tried this too. Although I’ve never had red velvet cake before so I had nothing to compare it to, but it was really good.

MMmh, that looks so yummy. Peanut butter pretzels are awesome!
Doesn’t it just make you feel thankful about your world to have a full pantry. I know it occurs to me after a grocery shopping trip.

You are so right. In fact, there’s a rule in my house: no one can ever whine “There’s nothing to eat!” because our pantry is always full of food.

My very favourite PC product is the italian meatballs. They also make wonderful appetizers at holiday parties.

Yum! I just came from a holiday party where PC meatballs were served, they are rather delicious!

Jalapeno loaded was a hit! I hunted these down – they were no where to be found in my area (Mississauga) until about 3 weeks AFTER the Insiders’ Report was published. Just wish they had a touch less sodium. These pics look so yummy, i’m gonna hafta try the mini biscotti! I had tried the peanut butter filled pretzels on the last Report, looking forward to the frosted version! Thanks for posting this.

    • Lena

      December 12, 2011 at 11:24 am

You are so welcome! I have to agree, I find most chips these days to be loaded with sodium – and the more pungent the flavour, the more salt there is! Surely there must be a happy median somewhere. And yes, try the biscotti! The white chocolate/cranberry ones are DIVINE.

      • the brother

        December 12, 2011 at 2:31 pm

I agree, there just has to be a happy median…in my opinion, if they cut down on the sodium, they could actually INCREASE the flavour of the chip! Then these could definitely be considered 5 chillies on the scale!!

Great review! All I want to know is how I sign up lol. I am the same way when I get my email for the holiday insider report I start to drool, if you have not tried it yet the ice cream cake in there is amazing! (made if for a friend for her bday) I am looking forward to trying a the red velvet mix, (oh I never keep buttermilk on hand, I just make my own like this http://frugalliving.about.com/od/condimentsandspices/r/Buttermilk_Sub.htm

    • Lena

      December 15, 2011 at 9:14 am

Okay, it’s official – I simply must try the red velvet cake. Thanks for the buttermilk tip!
